Yes Seiko have been my choice of beach, swimming and scuba watch for thirty years. Many Seikos could be replaced for less than the cost of a minor repair on premium brand. The Marine Master is a beautiful watch in its own right.

I think Polex is long gone. I have two, a reasonable 1016 and a 5517/5514/1680 hybrid that is irredeemable. I bought both a round sixteen years ago.

A couple of respected members have noticed issues with TC cases, then TC significantly raised his game. I was seriously on the point of ordering, because 16610 is the last Rolex sub I really love, then TC goes AWOL. I'm really hoping he is okay, not in trouble and will resurface again before long, but for now the party seems to be stopped.

I'm a sort of accidental collector of Seikos and a couple of mine have ISO diver's ratings so I am vaguely aware of it. Saturation diving, yeah I'm planning doing that right after the HALO jump as part of my re-entry from my Mars mission. NOT.

It depends what you are happy with. To do it right you are looking at a bit more than 200 dollars. I would guesstimate 5000 to 6000 to make a convincing Newman. A Valjoux 72 is going to cost 1000-1500 before conversion parts are added and there isn't really a great substitute available. For a case, other than genuine, a Phong/Jenson is about 1400 IIRC, DW or Tonnywatches a bit less with a correspondingly less accurate design. Dial, well again Tonnywatches is around 400, good vietmanese a thousand plus or best of all a genuine one, but probably not a true Newman. Daytonas are not easy. I am sorry to welcome you to the forum with such bad news. On the up side virtually any other Rolex is easier and cheaper. As cheap as 120 Dollars for a reasonable 5513. Ideally you would want a crown, dial and crystal upgrade on that, so maybe view it as a starter kit. This hobby is addictive.

That is interesting and a little disturbing. My Seiko 100 metre has definitely seem more than the shower. I had read something about currents, movement and other factors meaning depth rating wasn't straight forward, but never really looked into it. I think I must. I live in Ireland! Walking down a shopping street can involve more water than taking a shower, especially now winter is approaching.

Actually it has quietly amused me for years listening to all the arm chair enthusiasts comparing depth ratings. My Seiko with 100 metres is a bit limp. A real dive watch is at least 200 metres! 300 metres? 2000 metres. Deepsea is the only way to go? Well my PADI open water cert covers me to...... Wait for it.........18 metres! Yes ladies at more than 200 metres I have much bigger problems than worrying if my watch is still ticking

The dial feet are not in a useful position for an ETA movement unfortunately. There is a company in my native Yorkshire. Www.agthomas.co.uk of Bradford. I know they sell replacement dial feet that stick on and are somewhat better than dial dots. Possibly other watch parts companies have them as well.
