  1. All came good in the end. I thought a full on franken 1680 would be close to gen money. Nice project, but... I am strong believer in the idea that if you buy a watch, it is yours to do whatever you want with, but I was kind of hoping you wouldn't sell the white dial, so the piece would remain together. Silly really. But now a genuine watch that needs help and love. If you turn up a genuine dial, you will have done no more than many "reputable" dealers would do on the sly. It is going to eat cash but the end result will always be a genuine and desirable watch, a pleasure on the wrist and better than money in the bank. well done.
  2. The pictures, pretty as they are, do not do these dials justice.
  3. Welcome, glad you decided to stick around. Many nice people here, some of whom are from France and Spain.
  4. That's a serious piece, but I still prefer your double red.
  5. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to read what is involved. This thread is a real education, keep it coming please guys.
  6. Sorry, I can't really help you with that model, I know precisely nothing about them. However you seem to be working on the right lines comparing pictures. Decide what you can live with and what you can change. Omega parts are getting harder to source, but still easy and cheap compared to some other brands. The 1120 Omega movement was basically an ETA 2892 movement. Omega developed this into the 2500 and then added George Daniels co-axial escapement to become the 8500. If you feel inclined to modify your watch a genuine dial and hands with a 2892 movement would be about as good as it gets. As ever, how far you want to go and how much you want to spend is up to you. Some of us feel 250 Dollars is enough for a rep, some of us are in for several thousand. There is no right answer, only the one that makes you happy.
  7. If it's from one of our TD's and he says it is from factory x, it will be from factory x. They are chosen for a reason and they are expected to abide by reasonable conduct. There isn't a very accurate replica of the omega speed master. Because they use a different movement to the genuine, the sub dial spacing is off. Most use a Chinese clone of the Valjoux 7750 movement with the sub dial positions moved from 12,9,6 to 9,6,3 which also brings reliability issues. There is a genuine omega that uses a 7750 Omega 3210-50. I think replicas of that might be worthwhile and have been meaning to buy one myself. Picture of the genuine watch attached. Seamaster has many models and a long history, I have a few genuine versions. I assume you mean the Planet Ocean, which has very good replicas available and can be made virtually indistinguishable with a few parts, such as helium valve and bezel insert. If you mean the Professional, then the so called closed factory was the best. Yes, they are called the closed factory, because they closed and you would have to find a member to member sale of a used one. I'm not really the best expert on replica Omega, everything I know is from reading threads in the omega section.
  8. Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found it useful so far. Question 1, Factories is probably not really an accurate description, workshops might be better. Often cases and other parts are bought from outside suppliers and assembled by a small team. Because this is an illegal business we really only have a very vague idea what the real story is. Which leads on to question 2 and 3. The factories get there name from signature models and is a rough and ready way of identifying different suppliers. Yes factories are better at some things than others. When deciding on a particular model, the search function will help you choose who has the best of any particular model, so that would be question 4. Do not expect Descriptions to be totally accurate, read reviews of the model. If it's a TD, then the pictures will be of what you can expect to receive. Often none TD's use pictures of the genuine watch and may just take your money and disappear. Stick to TD's! Which is basically question 6. There are plenty of websites that will sell you a Rolex, built in Switzerland by Swiss watchmakers, with a movement exactly the same as genuine. Remember if a deal seems to good to be true it probably is. There are no Swiss replicas and you are unlikely to get anything for your thousand dollars. You made a great start by reading about the subject, carry on reading and if you really can't find an answer, then as a question in the relevant section and don't forget to keep us updated on any purchases. We like pictures.
  9. Well a Phong case is 1450 USD and a V72 isn't going to be much less, so that's the three grand gone before a dial, hands and watchmaker's work. I think unless someone is either very, very good at finding bargains, able to do their own watch repairs and servicing or prepared to accept a low quality dial 4500 USD is more realistic.
  10. Lots of industrial stuff uses windows NT, especially for event loggers and data servers. I would think keeping aircraft in the air would be a good example of where to use redundancy: two or more different operating systems each using different software, nothing happens unless the outputs on all systems are the same. If not a warning is flashed up and the system is halted, paused or put into a loop in a safe state. Personally I just don't trust windows not to freeze, glitch, loose data or go blue screen.
  11. I prefer toys that work, so none of mine run Windoze Windows is based on MS DOS MS DOS is based on QDOS which stands for quick and dirty operating system. It was and still is a hacked together bodge job. The kernel is still not stable after 36 years. Hence operation critical machines tend to,avoid using it.
  12. ^^^Happy Birthday mate. Hope it was a good one and you have many more.^^^
  13. Dead on about the lume, but it might be a personal choice of the owner. I do believe the Cartel 5513 case was developed from a sea dweller case. It is too thick, the crown is a little low and it needs a little work on bevels, crown guards and finish. But for 119 USD it is hard not to like.
  14. Congratulations. Please give us a blow by blow build story. ^^^Edit: No sooner asked than supplied :-) ^^^ I don't even know the model, so I wouldn't know about accuracy but it looks fantastic. I guess most people will be in the same position. As for a,case back, well if you find one great, if not you only really need to fixate on it if you grow eyeballs in your wrist :-)
  15. Well that was a fun read. I like a well executed fantasy watch.
  16. ^^^switch off and on again LOL^^^ First piece of advice from any IT help desk.
  17. Not wrong, but plating is usually real gold too. The weight will always be a tell either way. I discovered a plating company near my parents that will plate watch cases with a fancy modern gold alloy. It looks like gold, is cheaper and is very, very tough which isn't the case with at all with gold.
  18. Hello, This has been discussed before, but I think it was on one of the other forums. Wrapped is a different process to plating and thicker. Actually the link tells us it is 25-30 Microns thick. Plating can be as low as 1 micron thick. I like this watch, but it isn't 1:1. The Patek Phillipe hinge on th back of the case is an incredible piece of design and the rep isn't very similar, also there is something a little bit off about the date window. As always, be aware of the faults and tells, compare with the real watch and decide what you can live with. So no it's not solid gold and if it was it would be nearer 3-4000 USD. In my opinion it is not worth the price difference.
  19. Excellent result Bart, you have some amount of determination. I'm not a big fan of that case, but the dial improves things immensely.
  20. I am on many forums, rep, watches, genuine watches and lots of other stuff. However I have never come anywhere close to 500 posts on any them. This place is special and very close to my heart. Sorting out exactly why could be a PHD project, but admin and members have to be a big part of the equation. So thank you guys all of you.
  21. www.pf-818.com I do believe it's holiday time in China at the moment though
