  1. sorry no time for taking good pictures but i can still do a quick reply
  2. seams like you really have a weird problem. as you are shure the hand doesn't move on the pinion (i guess you tried to block thee weel whether by hand or with rodico) it has to be somthing with the reset hamer. if i get it wright the hand is now allway resting between 15 & 16 mnts ? or does it reset randomly ? when you push the hammer by hand the hand ends up at 15 or at 0 ? i mean it could be that the wheel reset corectly, but that it doesnt get really blocked because the arm dont put enough pressure after it hit the cam and so the weel can freely bounce to 15? But i guess you allready checked that ... for what i see in the first picture the 6 oclock wheel wich recive the hammer contact is not the real minuts counter wheel (the one with the hand pinion) or the hand would sit at 12 (since the watch picured is upside own) So can't it be that this reset wheel has to engage the hand pinion thrue various other wheel, and so has to be engaged to the the exact minuts reset position (i mean that the wheel theeth have to be engaged in 1 and only 1 position) Sorry else than that i dont see. You probably need a better answare from somone more competant with this movement ...
  3. well i of course don't expect the watch to be perfect at that price but i think this one would be deceptive in the end knowing there is better floatting arround... actually on trustys i like those 2 better : http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_103&products_id=1526&zenid=663d1051f81cf7346803d5c2e8099bfb http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_103&products_id=1530&zenid=663d1051f81cf7346803d5c2e8099bfb at least the dial are non ROC. If i was to buy a not so realistic rolex chrono, i would go for the very old model like those http://www.jpc8118.com/rldv10015-daytona-chronograph-whiteblue-asia-7750-p-525.html i like how they looks and finding a better option is olmost impossible anyway (i mean without buying a phong 5k$)
  4. i guess trusty's will have the usual flow of less quality vintage daytona. wrong dial marking shoul not be a Rolex Oyester Chrnograph, (i guess factory deliver the same in 6239/41 than the one they make for 6263/65). and anyway it's sitting to high on the dial for the ROC (the bottom of "chronograph" usually align with the top of the subdial). of course wrong subdial spacing. The bold font for the red daytona, is a Mk2 black dial wich would even be wrong for a 6263/5 model with that crown & band, but anyway the 6239 was discontinued in 69 subdial don't have enough clearly visible concentric engraved circle. center chrono hand looks too short. case is probably too fat (or at least caseback) since it's not housing a V722 somtime wrong size (ex lug size for a 20mn band) this crown doesn't look good to me.. it try to mimic the old style 24-700 (and not the new 24-703) but i don't find it convincing.. And stay away from rep riveted bracelet even if this one looks to have the correct enfgraving for a rivted 6239 (wich is 7205/71) Reps are allway way to thick, gen are actually quite thin. And i think the gen 7205 like the 7835 are only 12mmn wide at the end, not 14mn like a classical 78350, anyway they where dicontinued in 67 ... so i'll say not too good, of course all those flaw would only be seen by a rolex colector not the usual Jhon Do... just my 2 cent...
  5. nice post ! you managed to write somthing that is at the same time very personal and still very intersting to evereyboy. Interesting to share your personal thaught and evolution thrue this hoby.. I wish you the best with your new girl

    DW 6263

I totally agree with you on that. I think for a project watch running around 2k, 150-200$ for the band make sense, but certainly not 900... by the way did you mean a 7835/371 at that crazy price ? cause i paid my 7835/361 arounf 120$ on the bay ... anyway i second you that investing on a 7835/371 or gen 571 endlinks only make sense if you own a gen ...

    DW 6263

Well i kinda disagree with you... It's of course my personal opinion, and if you are geting a DW braclet quality may change from batch to batch... But personaly i wasn't satisfied with DW's, they are ok and you can use them for a while, but they feel realy different from gen. Links arent compatible with gen by the way... not exact same size. If u are pattient you can find a 78350 for about 120€, and using a 7835 is cool too, and a bit chipper (if you dont mind the thinner end) But you will definitively have to use DW 571 endlinks as gen just can't be found, so be prepared for a serious fight trying to fit those For the 7835 you probably have to deal with whatever endlink are on the band you buy (as they are atached to the band), anyway i have never seen gen 371 or 271 for sell exept atached to a 25k watch i used a 78350 on my 6263 while my 6265 is fited with a 7835/361 so it all depend but if you go for a real V72 and invest lot of time & money in your project, you might invest in a gen sonner or later...
  8. The Orange hand should NOT be independantly adjustable. It share the same movement as the second generation 1675 GTM 1 (1570 with gmt module) but without the rotative bezel off the gmt. So in the real world this complication is prety useless on a 1655, but it looks so cool if the watch is powered by an eta and you know how to disassemble it, you can chose to remove one gear and the hand is no longer adjustable ... It shouldn't have quickset date neither, wich is anoying if you don't weare the watch every day, if the watch is powered by an eta you can chose to keep or remove the quickset gear... i personaly kept it ...
  9. I just dont clean my rolex's And i mean my GEN rolex, and in all my friends that have rolex i don't think one of them ever though of cleaning his watch. One of my best friens actually painted his little girl room to make it pretty for the birth and has now enourmous spot of paint stuck into his sub band, and guess what, he just wait for them to go ... You don' really have the same perpective when you have been daily wearing your sub during 15 year and knows you will for 15 more ... Somtime rep collector a just much more respectfull than a gen owner. At least this is true for a rolex sport model as people buy them for there robustness and see them as the 4x4 watch. Now id DO clean my JLC
  10. Whaaaaooooohhh the oficail PC vs Mac war has started again Well i have some news : this war as no reason to continue now, because here is a secret : MAC ARE NOW OFFICALLY PC think of it as this : INTEL yes INTEL cpu IBM/Hitachi HDD ATI/NVIDIA graphics card and all the usual hardware manufacturer you find on PC. OS == freeBSD + the only part that apple is still doing "aqua graphical interface" insted of classical X windows found on unix plateform. Can run Mac OS X / windows / linux / whatever ... Most of the time people refer PC as bieng "Microsoft windows TM" but that is a misunderstanding of what a Pc is As the concept of Pc was to produce plain hardware unlinked to the OS (unlike Mac) and didn't even had to be conected with i386 architecture... Now Mac are little overpriced (not so much nowadays) but do ROCKS, as they combine the power of UNIX with a great graphial interace, and all the traditional partenership with software devlopper so they do port there soft to Mac os (for example the lack of adobe suport to linux is painfull) I would certainly not have said that a few year ago when Mac OS 9 was still around and mac where waaaayyy behind os like NT4 or any unix. The swich to concentrating in only developing a graphical interface, secure partenership, and make design product out of commonly available hardware really saved them. Now i personally works on windows and linux, and don't have any real need for a mac ... but i am working in the software/sys admin buisness For somone that whant's a working & simple solution mac is perfect.
  11. it depends on what movement you whant. is this to replace an existing one, then you prolly need the same if you whant your hands to fit asian do vary a lot between diferent reps, if you bought form one of our collector he might be able to get a similar one for you. if it's an ETA the 2824-2 is wildly available... www.ofrei.com for example ... or you can buy a chip watch one the bay that hold one. (specially if you need a 2846-2) gen rolex caliber can olso be found from various souce including the bay... So can you be more specific ?
  12. i have nnnnooooo idear ? well that would be me obviously, and whoever can reconised himself :)
  13. yes, same here the old explorer has a dial that is so uncomon looking for a rolex, it's really an exeption too the whole line. It has some sort of nice 70's look, but yet not too much outdated. a real piece of interest. i totally second that. I would jump in a super 1655. I tried to talk DW into making a case kit that is actually affordable (let's say under 500$ for case & bezel) and trully 1:1, then with a moded 2892 an ndt dial and gen tropic & crown it could be a gorgeous watch for around 1k$ without band (a nato strap could be enough befor investing into a gen band) i just don't get why nobody use that niche as a 1500$ case kit like jewleryandwatch is an other story and then deserve a genuine 1570 wich bring the whole project into the cost of a gen sub i vote for the 1655 as the new super rep. But i can see that the so called "super rep" production only consern modern watch. I guess this has to do with adressing a larger public than watch conoisseur. This way they can access people that are more driven by publicity and whant to have the latest stuff ... I am not refering to rwg public (that olso whant's the super reps but not only for that reason), but too a larger public or the tipical guy that register here to buy a single rolex or HBB and never comes back, thus doesn't get intoo the real watch freakness...
  14. i can't tell you for shure as i don't know the particuliar rep you are refering too. i doub't there is a real interest in swaping your pusher for you watch. first your rep pusher hole may be machined with the same thread pitch as your case crown tube, wich may not be a direct fit with aftermarket pusher. second i bet rep for the zenith movement might be allready very acurate. so unless you can find any visual diference with the pics above (N
  15. damn! this noobs thread is going on for more than a week now, and he still has only one post count (that is : this topic initial post) i'm courious for how long this thread will last hehe.
  16. for my little experience compared to yours i can confirm that fot the 3 DW that i have now swapped from DW pusher to cousin's i had to use my dirty technic of "forcing" the cousin's, while DW's where an easy fit. I do think they are not shearing the same thread pitch. Unfortunately i am not a gen daytona owner But i gess that ofrei's and such are the exact gen spec and that rolex use different tools for pusher than for the crown tube, while rep maker just avoid to use different machinery.
  17. whell all the after market pusher you can find (cousinf, ofrei, ithink they are all the same...) are after market pusher FOR the newer daytona. They olso are corect for vintage because the design didn't change much in all those year, and because when serviced older daytona pusher allways get changed with current one (as the crown that are changed from 24-700 or 24-702 to 24-703). but basicaly the part that are curently availlable on after market mimics the 24-P402-0 that are curently used on ANY daytona. you can find gen very easyly olso, but be prepared to pay around 150
  18. Usually most of the good rep can have a decent water resistence. Du to construction cost & assembling technique it is usually far from the gen though. But since we are in the Omega subforum, i would advise against doing too much diving (or even swiming) with all the model that have a HEV valve. The rep HEV (at least on the 2 SMP i had), is fully functional, it has a full hole thrue the case. But the hev crown doesnt even have a gasket and you can't really add one. Olso the hev tube is really poorly conected to the case. Wich is a shame since the main watch crown as a corect protection & quality, and the caseback is rock solid.
  19. That could be good news ! I think this would work, since i have been able to force aftermarket pusher to the case, it is very pobable that runing a corectly sized tap would let enough grip fro the pushe to screw in firmly, but this time leaving the ability to be unscrewed. would the price go down even further if you get more then 3 ? like for example 10 ? it is very probable more then 3 ppl would be intersted. Especially if there is still a shortage of DW style pusher.
  20. I have seen lattly a very interesting thread on assembling a decent 1655 from various part So i take the occasion to post pics of mine i builded a year ago. I consider this watch to be only "decent" as it is impossible to build a real good one without having to buy a phong case (or maybe NDT) and a gen 1570 gmt and a gen bracelet. But that totally an other budget. the 1655 is one of my favorite vintage and unfortunatly not very well reped. It started with a MBK/MBW that i picked up myself at the MBK in bankok. I was happy with the watch as it was fun to get it directly from the source, and at a very good price ... But after a while comparing to pics of gen i realised that it was TOTALY off. The MBW case is more or less based on a sub case, with 1655 marking. it is WAY too thick. I started to try to work the MBW case to make it thinner, but that was too much of a job. So i whent in my drawer and resurected an old 1655 i got from Trusty a while back when i was getting lower quality reps. This watch lasted no more then a month (i chosed asian version an that wasn't a good move). but that watch ha a far better case, without marking between the lugs, but much closer to a 1655. It olso had a better bezel with a better font. But a totally shitty gloss dial wth the usual horible yellow paint for the lume. So i started to mix both, got slowbeat 2846, a gen 116 tropic, 24-6000 tube & 24-600 crown, springbars hole drilled, and a better riveted bracelet... The braclet is still to thick as there is no rep one with the corect thiness. Here are a few pics of the process: the first parts : the gen parts : see the MBW wich i had started to rub down compare case compare to a 1665, it is the same base ! wrong MBW bezel, notice the 1 & 4 better trusty's : transfering the GMT module to the 2846 the MBW dial, while lume is being vintagize with the "nightcolor" technique (borowed from Edge's tutorial) the MBW dial fitted very well the tropic 116 can be installed but sit a bit too high, enancing date mag a bit too much. the gen crown "olmost" fill the gap between the crow gard (wrongly designed for 7mm) now the finished watch : It is far from perfect the nightcolor finish is a little to glossy and not as good as profesional refinish, and can't be compared at The Zigmeister's vintage touch, but it has "almost" no glow wich is good. I really wonder how The Zigmeister does The bracelet is a joke compare to gen. (well there is nothing better a part from a gen and that's $$$$) it should have a flat top 3. and so on... But overall i find it is a nice watch (for the budget) that i still wear even if my watch collection as now impoved a lot. I am shure one day i'll do a serious 1655 with repaustria's for model, but since then, that fill the need..... thanks for looking
  21. it really depends of your model (screw down or not) and dial This is my reference compilation for the 6263/6565 steel: all the silver dial (sigma non daytona or sigma + daytona) : plain balck black dial (daytona or not) : silver with white tip newman white dial (black subdial & black suround) : black with white tip newman blackdial (white subdial & red on white suround) : silver with black tip newman blackdial (white subdial & red on black suround) : silver with white tip for the other rarest dial like full red/ full brown red etc ... i have no clue, i am not even shure they where available for the the screwdown pusher .. this is only a general guidline as rolex is know for having asembled those daytona with whatever part where availaible (like the usual case / caseback mismatch) and that even worse for serviced watch. One little common diferrence you can olso come across is the color of the black daytona dial, subdial hands somtime they are all black (like dw's) or somtime silver whit the tip painted black (like dw' s silver dial hands but painted black) that variation may be linked to the Mark I or Mark II daytona dial (variation on the daytona marking) but i think the most common for genuine is the silver+black hands
  22. speaking of the cousin catalog i am very interested by the chinese movement specially the CH1901M as it look like a simplified V72 clone. Now if share the same hands pinion ecartement and asymetric pusher that would be a nice 50
  23. or David Wong depending of what you are talking of DW is the source for some of the ultimate vintage Daytona...
  24. I can't stand hamilton !!!! First of all he has to wear a gay TAG, when other driver can be sponsored by Richard Miles or AP When you like a sport lie F1 (wich is not very spectacular in itself during 70 laps) you have to take position and speculate on the drivers character to make it more fun. so i admit my opinon may be totally biased I think i dislike hamilton because everything is too easy for him. He his certanly one of the best driver, and will be a legend. Being almost champion in his first year and championin his second certanly prove his enormous talent And he does desearve his title. (i think the glock story is [censored]), and Mclaren his generally not as well considered by FIA than ferrari when it commes to politic decision. But my F1 hero his Alonso, manly because he waked up the boring sport that F1 was during ferrari/sumacher domination. He his the one that overtook him, and made him retire. So when the confrontation between Alonso and hamilton raised i chosed to support alonso I think alonso is one of the best driver but also a genius in car devlopement, look at what renault can be with him or without him. I like kimi/kubika too and have great expectation in Vetel But hamilton is just "too clean" without interest .. The perfect standardised product .. Comunication glamour and overall emptyness .. But somtime under the communication and control, the true ego can't stay hidden. Of course all pilot have massive ego (Alonso shure have), but they don't try to be the perfect children magazin poster. he his like the "boyz band" of formula one (oops who is he dating by the way !!) anyway the good news is whatever your favorite are, there is now a whole bunch of great competitor, and lot of suspense in the championship. hope next year will be as fun. (and this time finish like i wish)
