  1. Excellent advice all around, guys!

And yeah, we were "Lynched" in the past - investment advice too aggresive, and they really screwed up our account a number of times, putting moneys into the wrong account, not reporting info to the IRS correctly, other stupid, sloppy bookeeping. Horrible experience.

Janus was embroiled in the mutual fund scandal of a few years ago, I wouldn't go there. There are a few other fund families that have risen above the recent mutual fund turmoil - Vanguard, American.

  2. Our retirement portfolio is with AG Edwards, and, after buying and selling individual stocks we decided to convert to American Funds, very boring and conservative, but a highly regarded family of mutual funds.

The portfolio has been averaging about a 10% return, with very little loss.

We're quite satisfied with the results.

  3. If I rememember correctly, watchwatcher's jeweler said that Ruby's stuff was aluminum with silver plating, and it was "roughly finished". Is that correct, watchwatcher?

At the time watchwatcher posted his review and experience regarding Ruby's Tiffany offerings, I was also contemplating acquiring a few of Ruby's Tiffany pieces. I like the Atlas series.

I contacted her after reading watchwatcher's review, as politely as possible mentioning that someone had taken her items to a jewelry expert who said they were not very good quality, mentioning specifics, and she basically denied this, pretty much defended her pricing and shippiing costs, which are not inconsequential.

She didn't offer me any enticement to try her out, so I decided not to, based on watchwatcher's review. I thought it would be a waste of money.

  4. So I finally got a Pam - I really didn't think I could wear one because of my 6.5" wrist. I decided to try the 090 power reserve from Joshua to see if I could carry it off.

Well much to my delight I decided I can wear a 44mm Pam, but just barely I think.

I really like this watch, it's very nicely made and the PR indicator gives the dial a bit more interest. Now I have to get a nicer strap for it. Next Pam will be a GMT, I like the busier dials.

Thanks to Josh for this beautiful watch.

  5. Thanks for the excellent reference pics, Mahler.

Look at the genuine dial - what a nice dark blue it is, and it has a matte finish, not at all shiny.

Then lookat the close up of WM9 dial, see the slight purple flare in a few spots? For some reason most of the rep dials have this underlying purplish cast to the blue. I don't know why the rep makers don't go for a more dark blue, matte dial print.

  6. Well, I'm with you on the modern MBWs, CC. After trying 2 of them, 1 year apart, and both had flaws I'm not wasting any more $ or effort on the modern MBWs. I was shown photos before purchasing. What I got was not what the photos showed. And forget about after purchase support.

Howewer, someone on TRC, I think it was a member named XRT just recently posted a pic of a blue TT Sub he just got from MBW dealer George and it was absolutely stunning, the best I've seen. I was speechless, and a bit [censored], as you can imagine.

  7. David, I'm very interested in the blue Tt Sub you will get from WM9.

I've bought 2 MBWs and they both needed mods (new dials and bezel inserts) to make them tolerable.

The correct color blue for the dial and bezel is very difficult to reproduce, and if this WM9 TT Sub comes close to the genuine, it's worth the $500+.
