Bought a explorer 39mm a while back from joshua(pics)
cougar1 replied to Onscreen's topic in The Rolex Area
Great watches, love the no frills explorers, they are a classic and go with everything, they are pretty accurate also, the gen has a mattish dial, the rep hasn't but still a great replication. Looks really good, wear it well. -
It is definitely that sense of entitlement that is so prominent in todays world causing this. The past 10 or 15 years of teaching people that they must look after number 1 always has led to a bunch of ingrates and fickle, emotionless drones in all aspects of society. I think there are some great guys on the rep forums, and some great new members also, the trouble is, with the nature of this game, it is attracting over the past while large swathes of people who are approaching reps with the wrong attitude entirely....they have at times ridiculous expectations with reps, they are happy to treat the forums like they are customer support areas, and think the sales sections are like shopping on amazon.

Great writeup and photos hippo, always handy to have these processes as a reference. I agree that the crown/tube on PO's is weak point, you get some that are very sturdy and solid screwdown out of the box, and should last if that is the case, but it is rare. The materials used are just softer metal and any even slight crossthread will eventually cause the inevitable A similar problem exists with the Breitling Superocean Abyss rep.

What are some good Super Reps on the cheap?
cougar1 replied to MimiSars's topic in General Discussion
Hammy's are great value at the momey, superb bang for buck. For cheap reps at a good price ask toro if he has any more ebel chronos left, @ $150 they were the best around in a while. -
Happy New Year guys and everyone on rwg! Lets have about 15 perfect superreps this year

Nice Montecristo No.2
-
Opps, forgot yeah, the GMT's have no He. Would've been a lot easier for us if omega made all smp cases without He valves I wonder what the cheap gmt smp cases are like on sites like cqout and those places, some seem very bad, others no worse than from the dealers. Some need proper finishing though. God smp cases are really dire at the moment. http://www.cqout.com/item.asp?id=16040278

Very nice DG, case looks one of the better ones around lately.

Amazing sunny, stunningly close to gen AR, how it should be done! -
My thoughs on IWC Ingenieur Laureus for Sport
cougar1 replied to watchman12345's topic in The IWC Area
Thanks a mill for the feedback and writeup watchman, this is on the top of to buy list for me atm. The dial just looks outstanding, I love sunburst dials. The case finishing looks damn good also. How does the screw down of the crown feel on this, pretty solid with good turns? -
That dial looks awesome dutchguy, you need a good closed case for that, which are hard to find. I have one but it has gen parts in it so reluctant to sell. If I see one I will keep you posted. Where did you get the gen movement? btw you may already have seen but Cousins sell the full case sets @ £400 ex vat, bloody expensive but gen parts require a good case. If any of the dealers can get you a good case let me know

Help me fill a gap in my little rep collection
cougar1 replied to gtanak's topic in General Discussion
Defintely something a bit more dressy sporty or maybe purely dressy, the ebel and the sub aren't really dressy watches, well they are, but they aren't Maybe try the new IWC portofino, or the new Mark XVI V2 as it's good timing for that. Also cant go wrong with a PP aquanaut, cartel version, doubles up as good sporty dressy watch. Alternatively the 3717 spitfire or regular are great, can't go too far wrong and look excellent out of the box, a few mods is nice if looking for a keeper but not really needed if just looking for a great out of the box classy chrono. -
Tbh the gen doesn't have very prominent AR either, it's just single inner AR which is fairly weak. So the rep isn't far off in this regard. If you can get a double AR from sunny and do some mods as ry mentions it improves the watch considerably. Atm we are sort of in no mans land as far as omega reps are concerned. Waiting for new ceramic PO's and also a new 1:1 Smp ceramic, along with new Aqua terras means the older reps lack some of the features that are expected of the latest reps. If you can hang on a few months there could be big improvements. Something completely different like a JLC Navy Seals diver or a V3 AP diver is a much better buy out of the box than the older omegas currently. Still the Smp Chrono is a good choice if you must have an smp. If you can get a UPO pick it up while you can, I'm sure there will still be a few doing the rounds for a while yet, but if factories are switching production to other projects then they may not be as widespread as they once were.

First time seeing your PO ry, looks great, you got a 2500D, getting rare these now, wear it well!
-
Great stuff, at the price wear it for a while and if you find it too big then you can easily trade it for a 42mm with no loss. You got a winner here, I think it fits great.
-
The black is nice also, the gen black has blue lume, and for some reason the rep black has green lume, the blue is more accurate in this regard.
-
Thanks Seafoam, looks excellent, even the strap looks really good.

I hope things work out for you Teejay, we all go through rough times, it's better to ask for help than to bottle it all up or do something that we'd regret doing. I hear you on DC and Atos, the lib dems have absolutely no backbone either. I think the government target the most vunerable in society because the bstards know these the very people who are less likely to be able to gather en mass to shake them up a bit. I'm in Ireland at the moment, and recently the morons running the country cut a Carers grant for disabled people to help pay for the basket case money pit banks. In reality they government was very clever in some ways, ...cut full time carers who can't protest (because they full time care!) and hope that it doesn't have a huge ripple effect as they are a minority anyway. ...So they cut the very people who are saving the state hundreds of millions, and they don't touch pen pushing middle management public service workers who don't even know their own job title......something is very wrong with society these days!
-
Definitely the chrono, while it's not a perfect copy, it is a good rep and light years ahead of the non chrono, the non chrono case is very off, and so is the dial. Have a look out for a gen pearl/insert for the chrono version and it then looks the business. The chrono case and dial are excellent quality although it lack gen quality lume, but not the end of the world, it still is a good rep.
-
Great stuff, jmv, absolutely perfect condition, looks in mint condition from the pics. Excellent pickup for a superb price. Looks great on you. btw have a merry xmas
-
Teejay, really sorry to hear about how things have gone, I've been through some really bad times myself and more than happy to help out in any way I can. You are one of the good guys!
-
How can 1 get so many Xmas presents? Its so Unfair!
cougar1 replied to gtanak's topic in General Discussion
Lovely, good choices, I love the ebel on rubber also, it's got a very cool and comfortable rubber strap. I'm surprised at how good the B&R looks, never a fan here but that looks like a really good rep. Merry Xmas btw -
Hey vandal, yep it seems the UPO is a dying breed, or at least the orange one anyway. We've been waiting for those ceramics since the summer, they are overdue.
