Guest avitt Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 It's been a while since I've posted any shots of this one. A mainstay of my collection for a couple of years now, it's aging gracefully, I think...
Stephane Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 That is a very nice watch Avitt. It's great to see it posted here. You should share photos more often with us, they are very good and clear. Thanks for sharing.
tudorking Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 No, looks terrible. Send it my way I'll take it off your hands TudorKing
Star69 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 superb thanks for sharing. cheers, Frank
Tribal Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Really a fantastic piece! Nice and clean Mods I like it a lot. Btw also fantastic Pics. Congrats to this beauty
Cats Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Jummy, this one of the classics if you ask me. Wear it well and keep it on your collection. Carpe Diem Cats
freddy333 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 It looks like you never wear it. Problem? I think I would spray the dial with some matte varnish to tone down the shine on the lume though.
modelizer Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 She's a beauty Avitt! That gentle aging makes it just perfect IMO..
JoJo35 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 It's a beauty Avitt! Thanks for posting
jmb Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Let me take my pathetic imitation and find some place where I can bury it before I slink off and hide for a while... Seriously, it looks great! Maybe that's what mine will look similar to when it grows up!
alligoat Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Beautiful job T, certainly a classic and just what this hobby is all about. Tres Magnifique!
Nanuq Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Those photos should be THE reference shots for modding crown guards. Utterly superb. Magnificent.
rower Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks a lot, you just gave my 1665 an inferiority complex!
Nanuq Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks a lot, you just gave my 1665 an inferiority complex! Never fear, there's a solution for that too.
Guest avitt Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks all! (Looking at the posters on this thread is like a "Who's Who" of vintage modifiers...Very humbling.) This is probably the most versatile watch in my collections. It fits everywhere...backyard, beach, boardroom...dress shirt, sport shirt, T-shirt/shorts...
Guest avitt Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Those photos should be THE reference shots for modding crown guards. Utterly superb. Magnificent. Thanks Nanuq. A bit of a confession: This was my second crown guard job on the same watch.... Some may remember my first 1665 attempt. I had modded those crown guards just the way I liked them...Then I got the unfortunate itch to perform the "Pugwash Mod" (lowering the base of the crownguard, so that the crown sits just under the bezel), and I managed to f' the whole thing up. Nothing to do but get a new case, and start over. (I've also changed a few other parts over the years, like the dial & bracelet.) The results are startlingly similar, I think
Guest avitt Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 BTW, Nanuq, this was one of the original Tropic 39's, purchase from Andy on your reference...Thanks!
rosnik Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Avitt, sorry, can you tell us the case base?
Nanuq Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 BTW, Nanuq, this was one of the original Tropic 39's, purchase from Andy on your reference...Thanks! My pleasure! It's sure good to see it here on such a stunner. I've got to say too, your case work is at least as nice as the one RepAustria did... And I fell in LOVE with that one! Very, very, verrrrry nice.
Guest avitt Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Avitt, sorry, can you tell us the case base? Plain old MBW.
