alt.watch.obsessive Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 +1 on the crown. Excellent piece Lani!
Stephane Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Wow, Lani, I didn't even knew Rolex made these with subdialed seconds at 6! And +1 for the crown, my god! Congrats.
lanikai Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 Wow, Lani, I didn't even knew Rolex made these with subdialed seconds at 6! And +1 for the crown, my god! Congrats. I've actually had this for years years ago one appraiser had it circa 1930's.. dunno about that so I'm taking it in this weekend to be viewed by a collector... it looks like the rare bubble back crown to me though (?).. the screw down is still in excellent shape.. not that I play with it too much..I had the case back opened once.. I didn't know they had auto winds way back then..they called it gravitational rotor's back in the day funny how that was the fashion.. ultra tiny huh ...

lhooq Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Just beautiful, and a great reminder of how timeless the Oyster Perpetual design is. Almost 80 years old and it still bears a strong resemblance to most of the current Rolex lineup! It definitely deserves some wrist time.
trailboss Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Yep, wear it! That's what it was designed for mate. Col.
Watchmeister Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Very cool watch. I am loving that crown as well.
Demsey Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Whoa. The port side only lug holes get me goin'. Ow, my head.
freddy333 Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Lani - nice OP & I think your original appraiser got it right - 1930s (or maybe early 1940s).
JoJo35 Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Old gens are nice Lani, I agree with some of the other members that you should give it some wrist time. Perhaps even have it serviced by RG, it may be due! I wonder how many of our members have vintage gens? Cheers, JJ
jmb Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I normally don't like stuff without CGs but this is really nice! Very interesting that they decided to only put lug holes on one side!
lanikai Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 I stick it in the safe where I have dry pellets, so the humidity doesn't get to it... and usually forget about it for a year at a time.. maybe it's due for some time on the wrist.. need to get the right strap for it though.. and if it does go for service .. Ziggy would be the only one to touch it.. I can't stop looking at the coronet.. in and of itself that tells the age of this one.. thanks for the support guy's AC R
Toadtorrent Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Very nice. I've seen a few seconds at 6 Rollies in auction catalogues. I'll see if I can find some reference pics for you when I get home. Very nifty!! It's been said before...love the crown.
ubiquitous Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Nice Bubbleback! Great condition! 1930's - 40's seems about right. Looks like it's in terrific condition considering it's age!
Guest HaloArchive Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Take a pic of it next to a SA
