Guest al12 Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hi guys, I am noob when it comes to Rolex reps. This is my first attempt to mod a 5513. What do you think? The list of mods: Kent Parks relume Clark T19 installed Installed a tritium pearl to match a dial Insert vintagised Remove the hack from ETA 2836 movement Installed gen crown and tube
HauteHippie Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hey, I'd say it's a pretty darn impressive first attempt!
Gorilladame Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Very nice, with which watch (producer) did you start, is the base from?
Guest al12 Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Very nice, with which watch (producer) did you start, is the base from? I started with old one from Trusty.
Justasgood Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Veeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy Nice! If your skills improve....lookout. Now, send it to me for a non-biased review.
lanikai Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Wow.. Noob or not.. great job!!! you are destined to be a "value added" addition to RWG for sure.. Congrats on your first mod .. it is a keeper for sure!! AC/Lani
alligoat Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Nice job! It's pretty cool that the Trusty sub would take a T-19. I guess you trimmed the cg's, also. The only other thing I would do is drill the lugholes w/ the #55 cobalt drill bit from Snap-on and put in some 2mm Rolex (or aftermarket) springbars.

Well, it was not an easy job to install a T 19 in a Trusty Rolex. The drilling of the lugs maywill be a bit hard for me, but maybe I will ask my watchsmith if he can do it. Yes, I trimmed a CG too.
Ronin Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Excellent. Was the Trusty case "one piece" or did it have separate crystal/bezel retention system like gens? If it was a one piece design did you simply glue the T19 down?

I also fitted a superdome on a trusty drsd, no problem. this one had separate crystal/bezel retention but I had to clue it down (after losing the retention ring )
jmb Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hmmm, looks kinda old. It's really a shame you can't afford a new watch, I'd be happy to step up and swap you for one that doesn't look quite so worn out! Seriously, nice job and tastefully done. These "gentle aging", not tossed out in the driveway and ran over for a couple days, examples are pushing me closer to making some of my "vintage" watches look a bit "longer in the tooth".
Cats Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Great job al12. Wished i had the skills and patience to do the same. Maybe one day ??? Carpe Diem Cats

freddy333 Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Great work, especially for your 1st try. If the bracelet was not such a dead give-away, you might have fooled me into thinking it was a gen.
mjmj Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 This is great work. Very impressive. The faded bezel is in my eyes perfect!!
sneed12 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Next step is a low-beat movement, right? 2846 or similar? Great work, looks nicer than mine did.
TeeJay Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 As above, very nice work A little scuffing on the crystal, and it'll be perfect
jmb Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 As above, very nice work A little scuffing on the crystal, and it'll be perfect AArrrrrgh!!!!! Spare the crystal!!!! :Jumpy: :Jumpy: :Jumpy:
TeeJay Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 AArrrrrgh!!!!! Spare the crystal!!!! :Jumpy: :Jumpy: :Jumpy: Noooo, the crystal needs some abuse The insert wouldn't wind up looking like that naturally without the crystal taking a few hits as well
freddy333 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Noooo, the crystal needs some abuse The insert wouldn't wind up looking like that naturally without the crystal taking a few hits as well Unless the watch was just serviced. I do know what you mean though. But there are plenty of examples on those other (gen) sites of well-worn vintage pieces with pristine xtals. I guess it is up to the look you are after. For the most part, I tend to side with the worn insert/clean crystal crowd & I do not think it works against me (these bezels/inserts/pearls are gen, as are the xtals (except for the 1665, which is Clarks))
jmb Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 T, some day we need to have a serious talk about crystal abuse...
