seafoam Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) Ok, so I pulled the trigger on a Spinmaster Daytona a few months ago. The watch looks good and seems to operate ok. I opted for the gen crown on this. Spin was real good and pushing the gen options “if you want the best”. I had some issues with the crown screwing in properly and took it to be investigated. After further review, I have learned that the “gen “crown that came with my watch may be far from it. I have posted a few photos taken by my watchsmith and wanted some expert feedback as he is skeptical about its authenticity. I’m not crapping on Spin here I just want some clarification as I paid a pretty penny for the gen crown option. So, without further ado, here are some photos and am interested in some expert feedback. Thanks seafoam. adult image hosting upload image adult image hosting Here is the crown attempting to be screwed on a gen tube to no avail: adult image hosting And lastly, here is the tube that my watch came with (on bottom, DW stock on top): upload image Thoughts? seafoam Posted March 12, 2011 Author Report Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) Don't get me wrong, the crown looks good, just not sure if it's what i paid for... Edited March 12, 2011 by seafoam
woof* Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Have you read the current thread on gen crowns? I don't know your answer but based off that thread..it looks like your watchmaker might be right?
praetor Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 yea, lack of crimping on the bottom, which would be 100% wrong for the watch whether it's gen or not. Anyways, the top of the crown looks wobbly in your pic for some reason.

Anyways, the top of the crown looks wobbly in your pic for some reason. Did you contact Spin about your concern? He probably builds alot of these and he might have forgotten about the gen crown. I opted for the gen crown when I ordered mine and it definately is real, yours might be a one time mistake on his part. Please give him a chance to fix it.
coolfire Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 If you weren't crapping on him per se, you'd have chosen to contact him to clarify first, no? After all, as tjlocker has mentioned above, did you contact him? Great advice from a newcomer, imho.
lhooq Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Thoughts? Honestly, I've seen better-looking coronets on known aftermarket crowns. On yours, the tines don't seem to taper at all.
Ray T Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 definitely contact spin first, most of the guys on the forum are good people, they aren't looking to rip people off.
wiesn089 Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Coronet looks way off. Looks like DW's standard version.
Dizzy Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 i agree.. not even close to gen. Does look like the stock DW crown. dizzi agree.. not even close to gen. Does look like the stock DW crown. dizz
seafoam Posted March 12, 2011 Author Report Posted March 12, 2011 Thanks for the feedback guys and no, I'm not crapping on Spin here at all. Just wanted to get some clarification before i can justify debating this with him as i am no expert. Spin in fact has read this post and has contact me.

That in itself, speaks more than anything else. Hope you can resolve this with Spin.
Justasgood Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Not even Close.....not even a good aftermarket. I have a drawer full of these from MOds I have done. Side walls are too thick, Inside diameter too small, fat ugly coronet.......wrong , wrong, wrong!
seafoam Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 That in itself, speaks more than anything else. Hope you can resolve this with Spin. Definitely. I hope so too but i'm fairly confident that he'll take care of it.
Watchmeister Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 There is nothing wrong with Seafoam checking here first. Sounds like Spin has already reached out to the buyer and it will be fixed. No one should be afraid to ask if what they got is as advertised. He was not saying Spin is untrustworthy. In fact because Spin has an excellent reputation the buyer wanted to be sure his watch smith was right before going back to complain.
seafoam Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Thanks for that comment Watchmeister. This is what a public forum is about. Raising discussion and public awareness, good bad or indifferent. sf

seafoam Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 Thanks again gentleman for the support . Just an update on this that Spin has agreed (based on reading this post and reviewing the photos) to send me a gen crown and tube (and hopefully a stem). He responded quickly to this post and handled the situation very professionally. Lets just hope i get gen this time ....
seafoam Posted April 22, 2011 Author Report Posted April 22, 2011 Just thought I'd update this thread. Spin came thru and delivered a gen crown and tube and a stem to boot. Thanks to Spinmaster for following thru.

danielv2000 Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 This is great news. Enjoy. I have one on order as well! Can't wait to get it on my wrist.
seafoam Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 They're fun watches for sure. And with Spin's overhaul, less worries about movement issues
