ubiquitous
For those of you that have been following along, I started a 1665 Sea-Dweller project some 12 months ago (give or take). The project wasn’t exactly planned or really intended, per se; rather, a really good deal on a nice gen dial had fallen into my lap and the project kind-of-sort-of took shape from there.Because the project had more or less found me (instead of me seeking out the project as these things usually occur), I spent a lot of time contemplating whether I really wanted to see this one to completion. I accumulated some bits and pieces here and there, but I almost cut my holdings loose a few times in favor of other projects. It wasn’t until a friend of mine had mentioned that he was building the same project that I actually committed- I agreed to help procure a case set for his project which would be ordered along with my own. That was 9 months ago. My friend is a very patient individual as it wasn’t until the end of August that I finally got off my ass to get the last few remaining parts (case, movement and bracelet).Well, I figure I’ve been slacking long enough on this one and it was finally time to knock it out.The build list--Genuine 1665 white font dial-Genuine 1570 hands-Genuine caliber 1570-Genuine 25-39-Genuine 24-702-Genuine 24-7020-Genuine lumi insert-Phong 1665 case-Genuine 23-12200 spring bars-Genuine 93150 bracelet w/580 endsStill have a few small things to adjust, but for the most part it’s finally together…Thanks to all for keeping me motivated!Cheers and best,//ubi

freddy333
A beauty, Ubi, but I have a feeling the build cost was close to the current value of a gen.
praetor
niice :thumbsupsmileyanim: ... makes me want to finish my 1665 project (probably 6 more months and costs much less than yours). Although it would be nice to have put a superdome in that bad boy, which makes it all roundy, making it look like one of those old submarines. ubiquitous
Thanks, gents. Cost to build was surprisingly low (figures rounded up to the nearest 5). Gen dial $425.00 Gen hands $50.00 (service) Gen 1570 $750.00 (paid $900 but it came with $150.00 in add'l parts that reduced the overall cost) Gen 25-39 $80.00 (service) Gen insert $60.00 (service) Gen 702 + tube $10.00 (procured several of these in a lot for around $90 total; cost broken down by unit) Gen 93150/580 $650.00 Case $1100.00 Total $3125.00 Having done the work myself, that also saves some $$ from the bottom line. HauteHippie
Thanks, gents. Total $3125.00 Having done the work myself, that also saves some $$ from the bottom line. 1/3 the cost of a gen on a good day for buying gens. Not too shabby!!! Besides it's a beautiful piece, and having built it by oneself is priceless!

Irontomkidd
I have been watching from the beginning, I expected good but this is amazing. Is the Phong that much better than the Yuki to justify the cost?

sander
Very very nice build Even if the price was the same as a gen, I would enjoy it more than the gen. It's just so much fun when you finally complete it and wear it for the first time. Way better than just pay for it!
alligoat
Beautiful job R! And the fact that it took a year to build is a good lesson for some of the new guys. Patience is what it takes. You just have to keep looking and working on getting parts, slowly but surely. And I agree, you've built it for 1/3 of what a gen would cost these days. Great job.
