All are great specimens and for those who are current owners, I think the criteria should be greater then just who has the most gen parts.

An extra element that will really decide who of our current Franken Gen owners are the true winner should be:

1. You currently own the watch

2. The rarity of the components used to build the watch.

IMO, someone who builds a 16610 with all gen parts minus a case and bracelet (while still having a fantastic sub) would loose to someone who builds a 1680 with all gen parts minus a case and bracelet.

That same 1680 build would loose to a 1680 build with a gen 93150 which would loose to one with a 9315 which would loose to one with a 7206 etc.

That is a true way to judge who has the best franken sub.

Definitely not the best as people have gen dials and even gen movements in theirs... but still pretty good. I love it to bits.

WM9 v2 with v1 SELs. Gen insert & "custom" BK crown.

16610LV

Put this one together as a casual activities piece; unfortunately, 1940's era Patek are not waterproof, so I needed something that could survive some fun with the kids. The PP serves office duty and the LV serves Summer beater. The 5514 above also gets it's fair share of under water duty, but the more resilient sapphire crystal works better as a beater.

-Genuine 16610 ‘Maxi’ dial

Game over. Ubi wins. :)

I was never a fan of LV but yours and Watcher's examples have made me reconsider. That COMEX is a killer too... crown guards look PERFECT. And the old no-dates are MUCH nicer and smoother to my eye than 1680.

Thank you, gents; kind words appreciated as always.

Though if I may say... I think the best Sub for anyone is the one that makes them happy, despite whether the details are close/correct or not. If the watch on your wrist makes you smile... Then that is really all that matters in the end, right? No doubt about it, there are a lot of great watches held by forum members... Lots of excellent pieces! 5 years ago, the rep world would be chomping at the bit to have the quality and accuracy of the watches we have today; we've come a long way in a short time...

gpl- I'm using a 6 year old Rebel EOS w/ 55mm macro lens. There's nothing really tremendous or great about the camera, but I've found that lighting is everything. For my pics, I shoot with natural light only... I use a northern facing window which is comprised of glass blocks, so that helps diffuse the light a bit. I split my time working at the office and working from home, so oft times between conferrence calls I'll try and grab some quick pics when I can (but am finding that I rarely get the opportunity anymore). Hence you see a lot of recycled images from me these days  :(

For grins, and even though I no longer have them, I thought these were a lot of fun as well...

This one was a favorite of mine until I sold it. Franken because of its construction. More of a 16800 hybrid really.

Gen crown and tube

Gen insert/pearl

TC bracelet, Dial and hands as well as the V2 DWO

Gen 2836-2

ST3035 case and bezel, with gen spring bars, etc...

DSC_0001-15.jpg

Now, this 16610 is a true franken in every way

Gen dial

Gen SL hands

Gen dimpled crown and gen tube

Gen insert and SL pearl

Now gen no LEC crystal

Gen spring bars

Y3135 serviced movement

Gen 93150 clasp with very, very accurate flat 3 93150 bracelet(still searching for the elusive 501B end links) I modified a pair of WSO 501 end links. Took a few hours to get them to look and fit right. Still, POS and the customer service sucks. But it is what I have for now

ST 3135 case and bezel assembly. The case has been softened since the pic was taken and repolished after a nice salt water dive sessions to give it that worn everyday look.

DSC_2539_zps6d79e352.jpg

Of the two, the 16800 felt better, but such is life.
