edgematic1 Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Guys, A friend is looking for a cheap gen as a present for her brother. The budget is around USD340. Is there anything you guys can advise? Im not familiar with these kind of gens but some brands that come up to my mind are Swatch, rodania, seiko, tissot, or am I wrong?
asciwhite Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Get this Armida! Her brother will love it!! http://www.armidawatches.com/a8-brass.php
asciwhite Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Or maybe this Obris Morgan Explorer Good reviews all over. and even cheaper. http://www.obrismorgan.com/explorerpage.html
Aero_Dave Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 I think a nice starting watch in this price range would be a Seiko Monster. Nicely built, it's an Automatic and you can swim with it. You can get it on Rubber strap or Stainless. Orange or Black face too. Also some of the Luminox's are nice too. I have the 3081.BO Chronograph and Love it! Black and Stealthy. Dave...
Mike on a bike Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Armida good reputation and have a Luminox nice, so many around that price point. But I vote for the Orbis Morgan have a few very happy, had awhile and still running great.
StormTooper4 Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Get this Armida! Her brother will love it!! http://www.armidawatches.com/a8-brass.php Armida.JPG I just ordered one myself 1
asciwhite Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 I just ordered one myself Congrats When I have the funds I might get one for myself also.. Please take plenty of pictures and post them when you get it brother!
panerai153 Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 I would vote for a Seiko, quality build, good reputation, and very nice watches. You can't beat the lume on Seikos either. Monster is very nice, but they have a lot of models that fall in that price range. Look at the Seikos on the net, lots of sellers and deeply discounted prices.
edgematic1 Posted December 19, 2013 Author Report Posted December 19, 2013 Thanks guys for all the suggestions! Keep them coming, some interesting watches.
Nightwatch Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 If it would read Euros instead of USD Steinhart watches http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-1-VINTAGE-red,191.html they have a whole range of Aviation/ Pilot/ Divers/Classic high quality watches with high resale value.
Nanuq Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Check out the Orsa Monstrum. Gnarly dive watch!
Erma Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 The Armida looks good, I would buy one if it has a black nylon strap.
Ronin Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Lots of Dive watches listed above. Is that what you are after? Here is a list of my recommendations to my friends who want- more than a fashion plate watch, but something of quality. Check out Jomashop.com for some of these brands. 1. Seiko 2. Victorinox Swiss Army 3. Citizen 4. Tissot 5. Hamilton (if on sale) Simply put, Seiko is the Honda/Toyota (in your price range) and even Lexus/Acura/Infinity (Grand Seiko/Spring Drive) of the watch world if comparing to auto brands. (that's how I explain to my non-WIS friends)
StormTooper4 Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 My Armida arrived today , it took like 3 days and is awesome , comes with separate Brass Bezel and Nato as well as a rubber strap and a very funky case
dannesyd Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 For the record, i just want to say i hate you all. Stop showing us all these nice watches, my wallet can't handle it atm :D
Mike on a bike Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Really liking this one unfortunatly a quartz but just the same sharp.
alterego Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Hi: I just want to mention the Davosa (Yatchmaster tribute) THis is a solid well built and Swiss ETA powered diver that you can purchase for half the MSRP of $ 550, if you know where to look for one. I love mine.
Arctos Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 There are the lower-end Germans: Aristo, Junkers, Graf Zeppelin, Laco (might be pushing it on the price), etc.

Mike on a bike Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 Fraggle $23 USDs to you from here (no package as in their box then cost more), but they charge shipping to here $10 and it takes (their est) 35 days ! $45 for quick delivery. 1
Hyjynx Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 That's a beautiful Tudor Black Bay "homage". Thanks for the link. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
