spazthecat Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 So, tonight I finished up another Explorer 1016 build and I think I over aged the dial and hands. It was a cheap-o dial, so I wasn't worried about ruining it, but it might be too much. What do you think? Thanks, Andy Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

freddy333 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 It all depends on your goal. If you were trying to maintain a natural-looking patina, I think you overdid it. However, many here work very hard to produce that type of appearance.
Justasgood Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 I love the look....radiation degredation
Sogeha Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 I like the aged look to the hands. Did you use vinegar fumes?
bill33 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Looks great in my opinion. Good job! Can I ask how you aged the hands?
jmb Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 A bit more gnarly than I usually go for but looks good!
Mr Seamaster Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Imo looks great, u didnt over do it. Cheers Men who guide the destinies of the world wear Rolex watches
spazthecat Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 Thanks for the responses. I was shooting for something more natural looking. Funny how it didn't really look that "aged" when I was working on it. Then i got it out of the sun and let it dry completely.... For the hands I use 2000 grit sandpaper and coffee grounds. I roughed up the hands first and the covered them unevenly with a thin layer of wet grounds and let it dry in the sun. That was really it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
gocougs Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Just tell people you got it from a Titanic sale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
alligoat Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 It looks better under the crystal. Now you just have to age the case and crystal some.
initram5 Posted August 20, 2016 Report Posted August 20, 2016 I really love it and as a total beginner may I ask from who I could buy such aged replica? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
