  1. thought TC fore told of a version 2 that was way better. this is not it. factory dumping what v1 stock they have left, making way for the v2 is my guess.
  2. i have also started an ETA version based on your jpg rolo. probably not as crisp since its a raster, will share when done later today
  3. excellent work! im sure your labour wont be wasted is there by any chance an ETA friendly version? (number direction)
  4. this will be good to test out the alignment with my dials, but does any one know what print dimensions to use with this? thanks
  5. hello all. i have gotten around to testing out my new 1680 case featuring my 1680 red dial with feet for ETA as an example this case fits a PROPER 26.5mm dial UNLIKE the MBK (no more pressure fits) it also has the shallower rehaut like the gen, and unlike the MBK it fits 2mm bars out of the box , unlike the MBK it has a high crown position (unlike the MBK) and fits a slow beat ETA 2846 movement (rolex cal movement untested at this time) say good bye to having the perfect franken except for that telling low crown position it features a less domed case back and a custom serial number, unlike the MBK and no more "polex" it fits 1:1 parts and is shown with a clarks T127 installed and my red 1680 dial with feet for eta (no more messing around with date/hour wheel alignment) production cases will come with out crown tube installed but drilled and counter sunk ready to accept gen or aftermarket tubes of your choice, if youd like a high quality aftermarket tube installed a nominal fee of $20 will get you one personally installed by me with all the gaskets greased and the use of loctite thread locker i also guarantee the tube wont be stripped with the use of proper tools this is designed to compete with the MBK offering, so the price will be the same but the value will be uncomparable. this is just a working prototype, but its what can be expected of the final product, there are no pre orders or sign ups at this time, there are none currently available to purchase thanks for looking
  6. Clarks is good, a bit tight of a fit
  7. hi guys i have returned. i did some quality assurance today. i have a couple of notes to bring up with the manufacturer but really nothing that would halt production of this very prototype as it sits. i straightened one little issue out with a $6 tool that i had on hand anyways. the rest are further tweaks and easily accomplished. did a dunk test today: stats: 1 x 5514 prototype case all gaskets sealed clarks t19 although the crystal on the case is really quite good i know a lot of you like to use clarks parts so i tested it with this yuki tube gen 703 crown VS 1x 75 gallon fish tank 1x mean 12" s.o.b of a fish 5minutes http://www.flickr.com/photos/43703575@N05/sets/72157631444713460/ results: PASSED ok the fish wasnt really interested, curious perhaps. the rolled up piece of green paper remains dry and there is NO fogging even after rinsing off in cold water under the tap immeadiately after i fitted a slow beat ETA 2846, crown hole aligns in tube; center as a result you can have a slow beat eta and a high crown posistion, MBK can NOT gen size dial fits 26mm gen size insert fits 2mm bars fit eta 2846 fits and aligns clarks t19 fits, nice and tight as shown with : yuki tube, gen crown, clarks t19, eta 2846, my feet first dial with feet for ETA this case will serve as my 5513, 5512, hopefully a 5517 and a tudor sub (next) i have also got my prototype 1680 , i have fit a gen size dial without any issues, the bezel assembly seems a bit loose over the crystal, i will test this out tomorrow with clarks parts as i find his are a much tighter fit, if im satisfied i will post pics and results of my prototype 1680 some of you have asked about gen movements i have NOT tested a gen movement as i do not have one on hand to try, so i can not comment, if someone would like to loan one out for the pursuit of innovation, pm me to arrange. one or two people have expressed interest in having this be a slim 1665 case. i can engrave what ever you'd like but the case being based on a 5513 the dial sizes are different to that of a 1665 by 0.5mm and i do not believe i can create a one off case with a 0.5mm difference to accomodate your dial. i hope to start the ball rolling next week on getting this produced with minor changes i would like to see on the actual production models. i have a few things to sort out, but hopefully by next week we can formally get the good people of this good forum some great cases to work with. cheers
  8. this case set is not worth the asking price
  9. hey guys, we'll figure this out mid Sept when i return. hoping to have 20 made at first for around Oct these are case sets only thanks but before i depart a little 1665 treat fresh from my dial producer FEET FOR ETA (NO CLIPPING ) GEN: YUKI: (feet must be removed to use with ETA) INGOD: (feet must be removed to use with ETA) see you all later, have a good week.
  10. hi guys, im hoping to have these ready for an initial run mid Sept (ideally) i still have to test and evaluate this prototype before i go ahead. hopefully i can bring more exciting vintage stuff your way, beyond this 5514. i did not expect such a response to this, i was pursuing this for awhile as a true hobbyist. im hoping this 5514 is only moderately exciting once all my cards are laid out on the table this is bad timing on my part, i will be away with intermittent access for the next 10 days, so we might as well say im unavailable, so if i dont reply too often or at all please dont think this is abandoned. in retrospect i probably should have waited to return before sharing this, but i was too excited! cheers
  11. i think he ruined it because he was inexperienced, he popped out a jewel in the process but successfully DID transplant one movement to another movements base, any watchmaker by trade can do this, no problem while servicing your movement before use.
  12. thanks all for the continued encouragement. this is priced to compete directly with and replace MBKs offerings $399 - $450 depending on final costs of this little endeavour. im currently working on a 1680 case, then a tudor snowflake (some of you may have seen the less than accurate prototype to that already, its getting there) a 5513 is obvisouly my base for these so having that case is obvious, my 1680 however WILL fit a gen sized 1680 dial UNLIKE the MBK. after that im going to try and tackle an affordable yet 1:1 5510 case ( i have no idea how this project will work out) and lastly a 5517 which *shouldnt* be too hard since the base will be the same 5513 case but modified as a 5517, much preliminary research and collaboration is still needed for this one. i am also going to attempt a proper affordable 93150 bracelet, since there are no real good options that currently exist. i might just try the mid bracelet or a mid bracelet and clasp, hopefully the latter but probably not 580s in this mix (at least for a while) ambitious, i know i realise the picture of the dial was a bit blurry so i took a couple more, i assure you the markers are creamy white NOT yellow (white balance issues). grabbed a 1680 dial as well installed on an ETA movement to test the fitment. i *might* refine the COMEX caseback further. im in the process of purchasing a number punch after determining the correct sized number engravings for the back some more pics (crystal is shorter and more rounded than the MBK 5513)
  13. Hello all. ive been diligently working, back and forth with a factory, a designer and someone who truly knows their rolex history assisting me with the production, to bring you my truly affordable, very accurate 5514 case for the enthusiast builder in all of you! this is franken ready stuff! i present to you: built on a 5513 case size NOT a thick 1665 like the cartels do NO CG modification necessary NO lug hole drilling necessary fits 2mm bars genuine like construction 1:1 fits gen crystal fits gen insert flatter domed caseback than the MBKs better lug beveling than the MBKs higher crown posistion than the MBKs, fits ETA (comes with adapter ring) NO more crown imprint left on your wrist bezel is FIRM but SMOOTH turning, bezel sits level some MBKs DO NOT lugs engraved "5514" caseback inner engraved 5513 custom serial number, NO REPEATING numbers floating around, NO BLACKLISTED rep serials, NO 2 have to be the same accurate COMEX caseback engraving (only this 1 style currently) NO MORE "POLEX" between the lugs WORKING HE VALVE, thats right! gen like construction working HE VALVE, no more expensive retrofitting later! i dont want to say for certain, since i cant actually confirm this currently -but this may fit a Rolex cal movement as well, despite being designed for ETA. the crown tube on this prototype does not fit a gen crown it is too narrow, this will be corrected. in the future i will make these with out the tube installed but drilled and threaded ready to accept a gen or aftermarket 703 tube, or possibly with a high quality aftermarket 703 tube already installed, not sure yet. i also got my high quality print dials in (better than YUKIS), FEET FOR ETA NO MORE clipping and dealing with alignment issues. 5514 shown with a meters first 5513 dial (feet first is more appropriate but this was the first test dial i grabbed) i dont think i will be making marked COMEX dials at this point in time PICS: excuse the fingerprints and tape residue on the case back *please compare it with Jewelry and watch 's $1500 case and yukis out of stock $650+ 5514 with incorrect caseback and generic "198" engraving GEN for comparison: thanks for looking at my first test baby! have a nice weekend all.
  14. it is, youll have to soak it for 24hours in acetone then you can peel it out easily with a pin, some of the corners may be hard to remove the paint from still.
  15. damn that is one sweet watch! affordable too, someone make a reasonable offer
  16. looks like youre missing a gasket for that tube (unless i cant see it, above the screw in threading, a very flat gasket) you should have 5 total (including crown) 1 on the tube (present) 2 inside the tube (currently not installed) 1 flat washer bottom of the tube above threading 1 for inside the crown get some blue or green (rolex uses green most others use blue) loctite for the installation you also need the special wrench (DONT buy the wholesaleoutlet one its utter crap) plus a screw extractor and pinvise to remove the old one and a metric tap to clean out the threads it may be cheaper to out source this to someone who already has all these tools. other wise youre looking at at least $65 in proper tools alone
  17. thought they dont fit the clone SA3135 either.
  18. alternatively you can transplant the 2846 guts into a 2824. i was comparing them, its the escape wheel , and fork, and probably the gear train that need moving. the rest can stay. but those are the hardest parts to move, so maybe if you were to get the movement serviced those parts could be put in its place at that time.
  19. DWOs sound to be a need in this community...hmmmm
  20. it should be deep like this one i have here, you can see this one is definitely not etched (or filled with black paint )
  21. wouldnt worry about it turning smoothly, its not meant to. i personally wouldnt leave a gap between the midcase and retaining ring, as i ve compressed many down with out leaving a deliberate gap and they all turned fine.
  22. is the back engraved? or etched? it should be a deep engraving
