Review of Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph (Asian 7750)

You can save a ton by buying last years' models which most golf shops will still have new in stock. For example, while the FTiq is $499, you can buy last years' FTi for $199. I'm not familiar with the differences between these two drivers, but I bought the X-18 irons when the X-20's were the current model. The owner of the pro shop where I bought them could have sold me either set, but told me they were essentially the same club. After hitting them both on the range, I couldn't tell the difference, and at $399 vs $699 it was an easy choice.

Sorry to hear this. It's always a difficult thing. It happened to me nearly three years ago. As much as I hate to say this given the circumstances of the OP, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Started my own company and have never looked back. Not saying it wasn't a struggle, but I'm happy to be where I am now and only wish it had happened sooner. Good luck, and if you've ever thought about starting your own business ... give it a shot!

The seller is scamming you. Holding you hostage for a positive review. There's no more (or less) danger of her not getting the money from PayPal whether or not you leave positive feedback. While it is true that eBay/PayPal is holding the seller's funds for 21 days to help reduce fraud, there are two easy ways for the seller to not have to wait a full 21 days to withdraw their money from their PayPal account .... complete the transaction with you in a satisfactory manner resulting in your leaving positive feedback, or upload the tracking information from the shipped package. The money is in the seller's PayPal account, and isn't going anywhere (including back to the buyer) in less one of those things happens. I see you've already left the positive feedback so it doesn't matter now. My response to this when asked by a seller is to mention that they can clear the hold themselves by providing the tracking information that indicates the item has shipped, and telling them as a backup I will issue positive feedback the day the package arrives safely.

Submariner WM9 v1 - which dealer sells at 'best' price ?
tomhorn replied to P_Diddy's topic in The Rolex Area
The WM9 v1 is only going to be available from another member as WM9 has now produced the v2. Check with BK to see if they are still available through him, or try WM's website ... watchmaker9.tv. -
Chief reported some issues with the UPO crystals when they were coated. http://www.rwg.cc/members/Word-or-2-Double-AR-t91495.html I'm thinking you should go gen if the price isn't too crazy.

I'd keep her and enjoy for a while ...

GMT Function. Help or Hinderance with travel?
tomhorn replied to TeeJay's topic in General Discussion
I wear my GMT when I travel to the west coast (-3 hour difference). It's mainly my choice for two reasons, to keep me aware of the time at my home office, and so I don't have to reset my watch. Yes I'm lazy, the GMT stays on Pacific Time all the time. -
I have been struggling with this very question recently. Never thought I would own one, then saw a BK WM9 v2 and thought maybe .. but ultimately passed. The pre-orders for the SD and the LV came up and I put down deposits just in case. Of course we are still waiting for perfection on those ... Then I saw the BK WM9 YM and said wait a minute, maybe I am a Rollie guy after all. And now I am searching the Bay for parts to build a franken DJ. I must be sick ...

The 7750 is a bit tricky for changing the day/date and can cause problems with the movement if you do it incorrectly. Best to do the day/date changes with the hands set to 5:30. More info here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Care-feeding-Asian-775-t72242.html You shouldn't need to 'change' the date wheel, but you will need to have someone look at it .... having said that, I always recommend the ETA upgrade ...

I love mine! Paid a little more ($450), but bought it 5 years ago. The only thing I dislike about it is that the crown is very small. Still manages to stay in the rotation even though I have started to drift toward bigger watches. I have a small wrist, so it still looks good on me. Someone with an 8" wrist is going to hate though ...

Crazy power reserve problem with my new Ebel Discovery
tomhorn replied to DemonSlayer's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Not sure I understand the logic here. Assuming you decide you don't like it and want to sell it, your asking price on the sale is going to have to be at least the cost of a service lower than a working watch would be for anyone to buy it. So either way you are going to ultimately 'pay' for the service. I would get the issue resolved one way or the other and then enjoy! I have one of these myself and she's a definite keeper .... -
My Discovery 1911 has both half links and full links that can be removed, but there is no micro adjustment that can be done beyond that as far as I can tell. I guess just make sure you are taking out a half link when you do it. To get mine to fit right I had to take out one full and one half link. If all you have is full links, I'll trade you a half link for your full link if it will help you. ** nevermind ... I see the links are different on the BTR bracelet. From what I can tell though from looking at pics on sales threads, it looks like on both the quartz and auto versions the last link is a full link. Sounds like the half link is what you will need, if it's even made.

Pondering on my first white dialled watch...
tomhorn replied to DemonSlayer's topic in General Discussion
+1 on the Ebel. I love mine! My second and third choices for reps would be the VC Malte Chrono and the Patek Classic Chrono. As others have mentioned, for a gen it would be the Explorer II. -
I also use the White Lightning as I couldn't find the Rock N Roll locally. Great stuff ... that's for the heads up P4GTR and RoninQ!

Yeah, but this episode totally ignored the fact that Alan already has a platinum Rolex Datejust that he received for sleeping with the old bag (Norma?) that lived next door ... who died during the tryst ... Which by the way is how Charlie got his grand piano ... The 'Alaine Cousteau' bit was funny though ....

Please stop me from ordering this Ugly POS!
tomhorn replied to mjmurphy926's topic in Other Brands Area
I always say, go with your first instinct ... And IMO, pretty much any Graham is an ugly POS, so if it makes you feel any better, I'm not buying one either. -
What you are seeing is lighting differences in these two sets of photos. The 1911 has very good AR for a rep. Although I have no doubt Chief's might be better, I don't see the need in sending it off. I bought mine from Eurotimez and posted a pic on the other thread where you asked the same question. I think By-Tor got his from Eurotimez as well, so his review pics should give you a good idea as they are always much better than mine ... I have seen people on the other 1911 threads that have bought from PT who were equally happy with their purchases too. Either dealer will likely get you the same watch, as I'm not aware of different versions on this rep, so pick your dealer and pull the trigger .... it's a great rep, so you won't regret it.

Review of Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph (Asian 7750)
tomhorn replied to By-Tor's topic in By-Tor's Watch Reviews
I am not aware that there are different versions out there on this rep ... it could just be lighting differences on the photos that you are seeing. If this helps, I bought mine from Eurotimez.
