  1. Tom Horn was at times a Bounty Hunter, Apache Scout, Pinkerton Detective, and worked for cattlemen as range detective. In the Spanish American War with the Rough Riders, he played a large role in the capture of Geronimo. Tom Horn was hung in Cheyenne Wyoming in 1903, having been convicted of killing Willie Nickell, the 14 year old son of a rancher. At the time, it was widely believed he was innocent, and in 1993, he was found not guilty in a re-trial.
  2. I have seen similar on the Bay go for well less than 1,000 Euros. You can also find similar movements alone for $500 US. There are several variations, but they are usually recased pocket watch movements, and based on this case/lug design I'd guess this one is closer to 47mm in size. The hands are quite elegant IMO and might push the value up a little, but I think you'd be overpaying at 1,000 Euros.
  3. Most comfortable: IWC 3717 and my gen Tag Classic 2000 Least comfotable: Invicta Ocean Ghost II (47mm is just too big for me)
  4. That's a product of the A7750. All of mine have it, including my Ebel.
  5. I gave up believing in "Swiss" ETA's in reps a long time ago, but that's really not the point. Truth in advertising is the point. If a dealer is advertising "Swiss" or "ETA" and charging a premium for it, than it better be "Swiss" or "ETA" when I get it. If it's a clone, then they should say it's a clone. If it's a DG4813, then tell me. Just tell me the truth, and charge me based on what movement actually is inside the watch. I don't think it's too much to ask, but know I'm dreaming if I ever expect to see it from most of the dealers.

    IWC 3717

You had to rub it in .... Mine will be off to you on an upcomming run ... then she'll just need a trip to The Zigmeister for lume.
  7. I have a small wrist, so anything bigger than a 44mm looks stupid on me. I bought a cheap Invicta at 47mm just to see how it would look, and it hasn't seen the outside of it's box in 2 years. I stay away from most Breitlings for this very reason ... they just look like a chunk of steel on my wrist, not a watch. It's too bad really, because there have been a number of excellent examples of them that have come out. My current rotation stretches from my gen 38mm TAG Classic 2000 Automatic to my 44mm PAM 063 GMT rep. The two watches that I think fit me best are my IWC 3717 (42mm) and my Ebel Discovery Chrono (43mm). Sometimes I do think the TAG is too small, but it does still have it's perfect times to go on my wrist. I doubt I would go smaller, unless I was picking up a vintage piece like a Patek or Vacheron. The 'big watch' is likely a trend, and trends come and go. The classics stick around, so I'm sure the 40mm mark will always be there.

    IWC 3717

Although I am mostly a bracelet guy, I prefer a strap for this one. I highly recommend Tourby's Pilot Strap for the 3717. High quality at a good price.

    IWC 3717

Here she is with the ETA datewheels. Much cleaner font and they center better in the window. Mine is the v1, by the way.

    IWC 3717

The easiest way to tell if it's a v1 is to turn off the lights ... the v1 only has lume on the 3,6,9,12 hour markers, not on the numerals. You can see a pic of it here. Merlin's shot is the best I've seen. v1 has minimal AR. v2 is better, but it's still rep AR. Sending it off to Chieftang for AR is the best way to go, and swapping for the ETA datewheels makes a 3717 about perfect. If you want to go crazy you can swap the Asian 7750 for an ETA 7750, but that's a little expensive. Merlin's also has AR, so you can see the difference, although Jakob did his, which is not a recommended option anymore. Mine's off getting a datewheel swap as we speak. When it comes back I'll be happy to provide pics of both. Chief will be getting it next ...
  11. You can also find 'donor' watches with 2893's for less than $500 ... I have seen Kiber's in the mid $300's pop up occasionally on the Bay. You could also look for used Grovanas. Steinhart/Debaufres, etc. The GMT hand size is different between the modified 2836 and the 2893, but as anton points out, you can get handsets on the Bay for Rolex pretty easily.
  12. I have not been called out on a rep yet either, but can second the above. I have friends with several (both reps and gens) and when people actually comment on the watch, they usually ask if it's real sometime during the conversation. It's what has kept me from buying a Sub despite the advances in the Euromariner and WM9/BK v2 which have come out recently.
  13. I have a 6.75" wrist, and the largest I can reasonably pull of is a PAM at 44mm. My TAG 2000 Automatic is 38mm and is as small as I would go, and sometimes I feel it's a touch too small. A lot of it for me also has to do with the thickness, which is why I'm not a big Breitling fan.
  14. I did watch a lengthy documentary on Chelsea last night, which was quite good ... but Sorry guys, I'm sure you've been fans since long before his arrival, but I could never be a supporter of a team owned by the guy that now owns Chelsea. Anyone else have a suggestion ....
  15. Was never a fan until last fall, when I started watching the Premiere League matches on the Fox Soccer Channel which was added to my local cable line-up. I get to see several games on the weekends, and I fully intend to make the trip across the pond to see a game in person. Hopefully next year. And this was before my hometown team won the MLS Cup, which I'm sure is considered to be like winning the Little League World Series for most of you. I can tell from watching that other than the occassional flash of brilliance, the talent levals are not even close. Still am hashing through picking a favorite team, although I guess from this thread it had better not be Man U ...
  16. I don't have the BCE, but can attest to Chris being a quality dealer. Check his section though ... He said he's taking a short break from accepting new orders right now to clean up some things and launch his new website.
  17. I love on the description of the second one where the lister says "As you can see from the pictures the watch is in excellent working condition" ... And perhaps the dial really is worth that, I don't know, but should the lume dots be that rough?
  18. The SSSS on your boarding pass is the random screening code here in the US. I don't believe it's because of your "looks" ... I've never had anyone at security give my watch a second look when they've done the random screening on me, whether it be within US travel, or coming home from outside the country. Now if you had 50 of them in your luggage you might draw more attention, but if it's just the one you are wearing, it shouldn't be an issue.
  19. I always make the watch fit the occassion also, and it's not about rep vs gen all the time. Assuming the rep is of good quality, then there is no reason not to wear it unless it doesn't fit the situation. For example, one of my investors wears a gen IWC BP. I would never show up to a meeting with him wearing my rep of the same. However, I have worn my new Ebel rep because it would not be an unexpected timepiece at my level of income (which he knows) and it's quite accurate. I also wear my gen TAG's and Omega SMP to meetings with him. Exactly. This is why I have not purchased the Vacheron Malte Chronograph, which is easily my favorite rep in terms of looks, despite having had several opportunities to purchase excellent examples. At this point in my life, I can not carry off a $40,000 watch, so I'd really have no place I would feel comfortable enough to wear it.
  20. Playoffs for me too. Currently there are 34 bowl games at the end of the year, and it only takes 6 wins to get into one. If you wanted to do a playoff system, you could put 68 teams into a playoff without adding/subtracting games. Putting one week between games it would take 6 weeks to complete the cycle. Currently the bowl season takes 4 weeks to complete, but doesn't start until 3 weeks after the conference championship games. So from a timing standpoint it would still fit. If this gets done, I think I would want to see the regular season limited to 10 games. Or, my preference would be to limit the playoffs to 32 or even 16, and let the smaller bowl games invite those who didn't make the main field like the post-season NIT does for basketball. The only downside I see is that the fans would have to travel a lot, so the bowls would have to do a good job of selling locally. The BCS can't argue about timing or number of games, and the quarters, semi's and finals could be rotated to give them all a chance to host the better games.
  21. Too late ... I already own one ... Classic 2000 Automatic, blue dial. My next TAG will probably be a Link GMT.
  22. I just order mine from Golfsmith with the name of my choice on them. No upcharge ... still just $45 a dozen. Sorry, but my game won't allow me to spend $72 a dozen ... Nice looking samples though!
  23. Do the hands from a modified 2836 work with the 2893, or do you have to go searching for a hand set too? I found a donor watch I can buy cheap and am considering putting the 2893 into a 063 I have.
  24. I'm wearing my new arrival. It's going to be a while before I take it off I think.
