  1. 39,,,blah...
  2. Us dirty, slighly less than middle aged men are used to being laughted at.
  3. I admit the idea of rusted hands is growing on me. Seems like the mm20 and at least one of WMs watches will have to be in the future. Now, how does one justify buying a watch with rusted hands to the wife?
  4. V, nice mm20 pics. On all the forums, I don't think I've heard one negative comment about the mm20. Once you go vintage, do you ever go back? More and more I find myself losing interest in any modern looking watches.
  5. I'm not sure what is worse,,,,,,,showing me more pics of the mm20 or the other post where the guy never gave up pics of his girlfriend...........
  6. What a great watch. I was saving for the mm20, but I think this guys watches might change my mind.
  7. Since we are on the topic, how do you clean the inside of an AR coated crystal? Can you scratch it or make marks on the coating?
  8. Any idea when you will have some pics of the final project? I can't wait to see that movement in a working watch.
  9. Where do you find these higher end vintages? Anywhere else but RC? Seems like its been down for a while so I can't check them out.
  10. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=5619&hl=river I think this is very close to what I've been looking for. Great dial except the bright white letters seem to really contrast with the rest of the vintage dial. Nice movement. Any one else think this is a decent vintage?
  11. I had the 100 dollar version myself and it just didn't do it for me. It looked good but that was about it. I ended up getting the azimuth bombardier which I'm totally into. This could be a rationalization but I actually like it better than the IWC because of the simple dial.
  12. I agree, very nice crown. where did you get it?
  13. Great looking strap, I checked that one out myself but as I recall, it only came in 115/75 or I would have picked it up myself.
  14. I don't think I would ever buy it, but I like it. Isn't it supposed to be similar to some vintage roll x? Forgive me, I know nothing about rollies.
  15. Well,,,you can post it on timezone and the big watch forum, both state you cannot post replicas, so it slipped by for some reason. Personally, I think it just such a cool watch even "the purists" have had to change their definitions for this one. This is on my list as a must have watch. I was going to try to be happy with the reps but there are crystal problems, movement problems and WR problems. Great pics to wake up to, I just requested some mm20 pics on TBWF. thanks
  16. Man, I'm sorry, that sucks. I actually totally screwed up my dial trying to put the bezel back on. In the end the dial was fubar so I ordered another one from davidsen. However, my dial was really messed up, if the dial only has a few small marks on it, you can try some flat black paint. I've done that with another dial and it really worked well.
  17. I just had the same problem. I had to pop off the bezel and push the movement up. It doesn't make any sense because you should be able to get the movement out via the back, but that is what I ended up doing and it worked.
  18. That actually hurt to read, I feel your pain. I did something similar before and said I would never buy a watch with spring bars, IMO it isn't a great design but there are some cool watches with it, so what can you do?
  19. I agree and can live with the scratches on the vintages, however, if you tap the plastic if feels like a toy. If they are going to do plastic, at least make it 3mm thick. My vintage feels like .5 mm thick, like I could break it by pushing on it.
  20. I also agree. I've said this before, but there is something that connects you to a watch that you worked on. I like that I've put the hands on almost all my reps. I've had the backs off, most of the movements and dials off. I never touched a gen or had the back off, at least not a 4 thousand dollar one. An expensive gen may be perfect, but it is too impersonal for me. I just picked up a 600 gen watch and found a dust particle on the dial. If this was an expensive gen I would have to either pay someone to do it for me or live with it. It is no problem to take the back off, remove the movement and get the dial brush out. Think of it this way,,,how many of the gen forum (panerai in particular) have a section for repair and upgrading? They don't because unless you are an expert, it is crazy to work on a 10 thousand dollar watch. In the end, these types end up having an expensive collection and not really knowing about watches. Unless you take a movement apart and put it back together, (IMO) you will really never understand how a watch works.
  21. I can't wait to see the finished product. the dremel is so cool. Someone on the forum suggested wrapping a cape cod cloth around the end. That worked great for polishing up a brushed finish. Way less effort and much better than the polishing kit with paste that you can buy with the dremel.
  22. I just got this, not bad. An azimuth
  23. Congrats,,,nice choice on the watch. My wife and I also lived together about 5 years before the big day. Definately takes the shock out of the new identity. Hope your pastor doesn't do what mine did,,,,he looked at me right before we went out in front of everyone and said "well, she really has your balls in a jar now".
  24. I'm sure it's all for the good of science....
  25. In the process of selling this, someone asked me to measure the dial. I ended up scratching the case, so I polished it, then decided to change the movement and hands. In the end, I'm pretty happy with it but may lose the screw down crown option. I know everyone may not be obsessed with gold hands, but right now, I am The first two are before shots, the last two are afters. The movement was changed from the Russian to the eta 6497. Also, as you may notice, I haven't polished the back yet. Whoever suggested the cap cod and dremel,,,excellent idea. It worked better and was easier than all the polish paste. Thanks.
