nice and somewhat tempting,,,but there just seems (imo) something paradoxical about buy a vintage replica. On another post I pointed out that I just picked up a vintage Doxa 300t and paid 1200 (usd), a great price....In every way possible I could have paid 300-500 and picked up a far supiorior watch, better more reliable movement,,better lum,,,more wr, etc. The point (imho) in being tempted by vintage is the actual history of the watch.....which might be impossible to replicate without a time machine.

I saw that one,,,,the 300 with the strange replacement bezel? That could be a great buy if the price doens't go too high lani,,,if I end up selling I'll call your first,,,

there really is something about vintage....got my 600t today and the seller was kind enough to send along a copy of Dr. Peters book,,,nothing like vintage.....looks like an aqua lung 300t is incoming...

I've had a few doxa's in the past, 750t pro, two 1000t pros and a 1000t carr but always sell these off for some reason. Then a few months go by and I need them back again. This time I ended up selling off two gens...a practially new 42mm PO and a seamaster 2254 but ended up with some funds. 1,000 (usd) went for a 600t which will arive today I have to decide to go vintage (I can pick up a vintage 300t serviced and lumed by jack a few years ago) or a 5000t which is doxa state of the art....Just can't decide,,,which the vintage 300t had a screw down crown...seems like the biggest problem...any thoughts???

The market is so nice right now for vintage divers, I find it is all I can pick up right not. First thing I do when I get something from the 70s is take off the back and replace the o-ring. It seems that these are always flat or square (not the overall shape, which is the same shape as the round case, I mean the shape of the material itself, not tube-like but more like a brick). Does being pressed in the case for 20 years make the rubber flatten out or are there special shapes of o-rings? I only ask because I always replace these with tube like o-rings which might be correct or not depending...

I'll toss in my thoughts since I have been all gens lately and don't see a time to go for another rep. My attraction to gens is that there is a much better chance that someone actually took their time putting it together, there probably was some actual craftsmanship involved and perhaps, at times even some care and quality. This, of course, is all matters of degree but gens have a better feel to me in that they represent the quality of a person employing the art of watchmaking. With that said, I would consider a rep only if someome like The Zigmeister took it totally apart and put it together again. You might get this HBB and on the surface it might look great, but there just isn't enough soul in it for me to put it on my wrist...imo.

Interesting.....I admit,,,this is one watch that I didn't like but is strongly growing on me...watchtime had a nice review recently...I may put a call into rolex myself....why not??

all I can say is vintage diver.....
-
Here is one that doesn't come around too often...
-
same here......at least one change at some point in the day.....but every so often (sundays for some reason ) I will go for three or four changes during the day.....

wow,,thanks for the fast info guys.....that is why this place rocks ......gen or rep....
-
thanks,,,,I was just looking up some past ones on tz,,,,guess it should more like 550 considering the condition? I need to buy something to cheer myself up after not winning the gmt...lol.

as put in the title, I'm "broke" but want another vintage diver (the orange gruen up on TZ) so I was thinking of selling of the bracelet from my 14060m,,,,paperwork puts it at dec 07,,,very little stretch,,,13 links and only very minor issues that could be taken out in a second. any suggestions for a price??? I was think around 450? (usd)

you can pick up a new seiko monster right now for 145 (usd). IMO, there is no rep that could touch this in terms of overall quality at this price. I know there are many stories, someone picked up a 100 rep and it lasted for years without issues. But IMO, it is the unknowns and unpredictable issues from lack of QC that is the reason my collection is only gens. For example, exploding crystals, stripped case tubes or crowns or lug screws or modifications made to make the watch work just long enough to sell it. In watchtime it was reported the 40 million reps were made last year compared to 26 million gen Swiss watches. I wish I could get a number on how many of those 40 million are still running without issues. The difference is that brands like Seiko have a rep, as in reputation so they want their watches to last. The rep companies want to keep their cusomers coming back. Just my opinion.....

**ATTENTION**: Raffle for the gen Rolex 1675 is on now...
chris5264 replied to ubiquitous's topic in General Discussion
this will be over soon,,,,,I keep asking myself,,,should I get two??? -
I can't believe it got that much.......bank wire,,,no returns,,,no decent pics..........someone paid almost 2,000 (usd) for who knows what????
-
If I get time I may look into a replacement......will have to do for now...thanks... wow,,,,,it is a small world..........well,,,I must have messed something up while cleaning the case.....now I'm having issues with it....oh well...back to the beginning.....
-
I am going to guess you will either like or really hate this dial...I thougth it looked great but after a good cleaning I cracked the plastic putting it back on...oh well,,,I wouldn't dive with this anyway (snap on case back and no screw down crown). come to think of it....I don't dive anyway....
-
I would post on a few gen breitling forums,,,,,I bet eventually they would respond......No why this is acceptable for a high end gen.....

Happy fathers day to all....while I love spending time with the kids,,,,,,,,getitng out to hit 18,,,and hitting my best game wasn't too bad either......

I got my 14060m (Z serial, so pretty new) for 3100 (usd) and that included PP fees and overnight shipping. There is a number on the paperwork that should match an egraved number right inbetween the lugs...seemed like a good deal since it was practially new (I have since broke it in with many small scratches and dings ). here it is with part of my son's dinner on it....

I like the looks of this watch but not sure how functional the bezel lock is..I had a squale which was very similar,,,it took both hands to move the bezel....in a practical sense, if you use the bezel I don't think the design is very good. However, IMO I think it looks great..
