  1. Have been offered this in a bulk buy, I know the seller, he is an upfront guy, but like me, doesn't know much about Daytonas. He beleives it to be a gen, and is sending me better photos, which I will post, ( unless you experts tell me not to bother) Have never bothered much with these, so need some feedback from the experts. Sorry about the quality, I know it doesn't help, but its all I have. Offshore
  2. In this context, I think Ken means they are "fair dinkum" about their pricing... meaning its up there. $$$ Like a lot of languages/expressions, this one can get lost in the translation, and actually have several meanings. But the original "fair dinkum" means genuine, as in fair dinkum watches ( as opposed to replicas) Offshore
  3. Whilst chasing down some info on cleaning machines tonight, I stumbled across this page on winders. I post it here for the information within, although I have reservations about some of the statements, ( they sound a trifle biased to me ) http://www.watchcases.com/automaticwat.html FYI Offshore
  4. Those pics were OK I s'pose, but your modelled ones always turn out much better Offshore
  5. Dope Distribution?? Gee the packing may attract more customs attention than the watch But yeh, one would think Officine was registered. Offshore
  6. If someone wants to do a quick test to see if a watch " leaks"....... Place the watch in the sun and get it hot. Immerse it in cold water in a glass. If you see bubbles coming from the watch, remove it from the water (quickly)... it leaks! If you don't see any bubbles, you can reasonably confidently wash your hands with the watch on ( if you want to!) You can probably swim with the watch on, but from here on all bets are off. I have had a dive watch, which had been tested to 20atm (660 ft) leak... no wrong, fill up! at around 180 ft. And it had only been tested in the week preceding the dive. IMHO, if a watch tests @ 3 atm, it is as " waterproof" as it will get. Any leaks which happen above this pressure will probably be more to do with the case " moving" than seals not holding. Anyone wanting more waterproofing info, should read Henry B Frieds' "The principles of waterproofing watches" ( Library of Congress catalogue Card No. 62-14817) Offshore.
  7. Great stuff as always Rob; really like it in laymans terms, some of the others around are just too stuffy! Another valuable resource from Ziggy, you guys just don't know how lucky you are to have these sort of people around. Offshore
  8. Bill The one from Birdman is a correct fit model, as is the one supplied by Narikka. Some of the stuff out of HK has dubious origins, and is as you say a tad too small. I had one like what you apparently have, and just put it back on the 'bay to get rid of it. So all that glistens is not gold! Offshore
  9. I picked up a Mido tester off the'bay for $40, and spent another $100 getting all the seals/valves done. Works great. May I suggest you contact some of the tool guys, there are a few in our "Links" section. See what they currently have. Offshore
  10. OEM actually is "Original Equipment (to the) Manufacturer" So if someone describes their item as OEM, it is the same as supplied to the manufacturer of the specific item. This is what blurs this area in reps. If it was OEM ( say Rolex) it would be a part supplied by an out of house supplier to Rolex, however if it is OEM to the rep company it could be anything Can only say it is a very "loose" term when talking of reps. Offshore
  11. Hi walace, welcome to RWG. However I know you have been "around" trying to drum up some business. So before everyone gets off on the wrong foot; right now its not possible to join this forum as a dealer. IE, don't post or offer watches for sale. If, however, you would like to offer us some decisive and thoughtful insights, into watches or the business of their manufacture, we would be all ears. So .. again , Hi , welcome aboard, hope your stay is pleasant and enlightening for all. Offshore
  12. Yep I'll be in for a couple, and a big thank you to Birdman for helping us put this together. Thanks Mate. Offshore
  13. If you think that a potential profit of $200, is worth risking a potential loss of $1100, plus losing the item from your ebay sale... then proceed, but its a scam, pure & simple. I only wish I was as confident of winning the lotto, as I am that you will get done. Offshore
  14. Are we talking about the crystal? or the dial face? If the crystal, just polish it ( toothpaste) if the dial face ( and i wonder how you got hairspray or anything else there????) you can try using Polident ( denture cleaner) .... having of course removed the dial Offshore
  15. Have a good one mate! Offshore
  16. Thats a prob I have had for some time, especially if I've looked at more than 1 page in the thread. I just hit "new posts" and start again Offshore
  17. Geeze JTB, we'll have the Ashes, and the One Dayers done and dusted before the round ball guys get their feet into action Maybe even the World Cup is done by then?? And they call cricket slow?????????????? Offshore
  18. I can relate to that... Bloody brilliant! Offshore
  19. I took you SERIOUSLY- DON'T suck on the dial or hands!! Offshore
  20. Puggy If I knew how, and where the tag was, I would have done so. But having not been schooled on those niceties, I just did the best I could... under the circumstances. Nuff said, my last post on the matter. Offshore
  21. Well I am a little taken aback with the "bad form" message, I beleived it was in the best interest of the board, and therefore the members to access our ads thru the Amazon affiliate link. However, so that I don't offend anyones sensibilities, here is the link direct. http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B0007VDN6K/re...4052484-8367302 Offshore And have readded it in the original post!!!
  22. Don't do that Richard, just leave 'em all there for Nanug and I Offshore
  23. alligoat, The board is not in "such bad shape", but every little bit helps. And to that end we will soon be putting up a raffle for a whole bunch of tools, which some may care to enter. I would just hate to think that someone had gone out and purchased a tool kit, and then saw the raffle a few days later! BTW, Thats a pretty good looking kit, at a good price, and if your screwdrivers are still holding up after a year, the quality must be OK. Offshore
  24. Hey aligoat, Don't make it too easy for the punters, make 'em search, and go in thru the links at the top, That way the board benefits And to any out there looking at tools, a little bird tells me that a great offer may be coming up in the tools department pretty soon, so don't be too quick on pulling the trigger. Offshore PS Have removed that link, search thru our Amazon links guys.
