  1. Doing my research on the forum, I found this thread and thought it was worth breathing some life into it. Plus, I don't want to get hollered at for not doing a search by posting this outright. I found a site, which actually looks like it's connected with another site that uses the same pics that has a nice group of vintage reps (at least from what I've been able to figure out so far. Here's the link Some shots of what I'm interested in... White Dial Black SubDials Ref 6263 - Lemania MOVEMENT: Copy Venus 75 Manual Handwind Chronograph movement CASE DIAMETER: 37mm THICKNESS: 12mm DIAL COLOR: White Dial, Black Subdials with Silver Stick Markers CASE MATERIAL: Solid Stainless Steel 316L BRACELET: Solid Stainless Steel with single flip-lock buckle (Rivetted style bracelet) FRONT GLASS: Dome Plexi Plastic Crystal BACK GLASS: Solid caseback BEZEL: Black Bezel HACK MOVEMENT: Yes CLASP TYPE: SS Vintage Oyster Bracelet (Rivetted Style Bracelet) DATE INDICATOR: GMT HAND: OTHER REMAKS: Water Resistant Seconds : Running Secs at 9.00 subdials, Chronograph 3.00 subdial - minute counter 6.00 subdial - Faux ( Needle is fixed) 2.00 pusher - start/stop chrono, 4.00 pusher - reset Daytona Vintage (PRE) Black/Wht - Asia 7750 MOVEMENT: Asia 7750 Valjoux Working Chronograph CASE DIAMETER: 39mm THICKNESS: 16mm DIAL COLOR: Black Dial with White subdials CASE MATERIAL: Solid Stainless Steel 316L BRACELET: Solid Stainless Steel with single flip-lock buckle (Rivetted style bracelet) FRONT GLASS: Plexi Thick Glass BACK GLASS: Solid caseback BEZEL: HACK MOVEMENT: Yes CLASP TYPE: Single Fliplock Folding Clasp (Rivetted Style Bracelet) DATE INDICATOR: GMT HAND: OTHER REMARKS: Water Resistant Unfortunately these look like shots that could be found just any anywhere, and my preference obviously is to deal with and support those that are found here. One f the things that I really like are the simple/old style pushers on the bottom. I also notice that the crown on the Daytona doesn't seem right, too high, where the bottom one seems to have the right crown installed. Thoughts? *Other link that I found the same pics belongs to "Big Big Watch"
  2. The easy choice is to go with something safe, like white on the band. Going with that color- genius!
  3. Can I make a suggestion to those that post their Super-Reps here to include a link (if available) to the build thread (they all have build threads showing off the mods that were done right? ) or at least an inspiration thread if they copied something that someone else did? I think this is a great thread for people to see what can be done and a first step for those that are looking for a great project watch, but it seems to me that without some references it misses it's full potential. Responses may answer that question later in the thread, maybe even a few pages ahead, but it gets lost and muddled that way. I for one would use this thread as a place to get ideas for a project watch to start. Thanks to all that are sharing their masterpieces!
  4. That band looks a little tight to me...
  5. Personally, I never start at the Home page, my Fast Dial link is set for "View New Posts" to get me off to a running start, and I never have to sign in because Firefox has my login saved. If it wasn't for that set up, I may have missed out on By-Tor's old TAG...
  6. Being a Republican, I can not in good conscience endorse the purchase of this watch... It's just too painful.
  7. Good, I have a chance to throw in one of the last comments (I'm guessing)... From the linked site regarding this phone, here's my favorite quote: Here's the commercial that kinda goes with it, imagine being hit with a Meridiist instead of a wimpy Sprint phone...
  8. chrgod, Thanks for taking the time to review this watch. From what you've reviewed, it seems that there's more work that needs to be put into the detail of this model. One thing that has always bothered me on reps is that most seem to fail to get a fine enough brush finish. That one extra step would make a world of difference in my mind. I guess that's part of the difference between a $100+ rep vs a $200+ rep, though this may not be the case with some models that I haven't examined more closely. Overall, it's a good 5' rep.
  9. Sorry to poop on the parade but that watch SUCKS!. Your old one is much better! Pleeeeeeeease, it looks so fake I'd be ashamed to wear it! Look how close the T-I-C are on AUTOMATIC. And that blue dial! It screams MADE IN CHYNA. I bet you're wishin' you didn't sell you old one now aren't ya! Wait... you said you were going to send it out... tomorrow... Hey! Nice watch!
  10. Wrong approach. First, get rid of politicians that got us here to begin with. Taking money out will allow people to spend money that social security will have to work harder to support later, if it exists at all. Also, taking this money means less capital for companies, lowering stock prices even more and driving those companies that rely on it to go faster into bankruptcy because banks won't lend to them- especially with de-valued stocks. Those that are in trouble with their mortgages will only find this a short term solution. Overall, good for those that don't take the money out, they'll have more to invest when the others leave.
  11. Nice job, thanks for sharing. I think it's time to go back and read some more of your reviews...
  12. I agree. As far as the movement... well, it looks good from my house. Good job taking pics, you've sparked my interest in this one (NOT QUARTZ!).
  13. If it's a good rep there shouldn't be any problem, that's were good research comes into play and a solid reason for asking. Just a thought about wearing an "expensive" rep, it seems to me that I read a post where someone who was in around 19-20ish was allowed to wear his father's gen watch that was quite expensive and certainly not something that a person his age would ever be expected to own. If someone asked he could always come up with a great story behind the watch. I LOVE THAT WATCH! I'm starting to look for a rep of it, but I'm not holding my breath that I'll ever be able to find one that comes close to being as nice.
  14. That's awesome! A collectible in its own right! Looking at the pics, it seems like it got more than a little wear time...
  15. Much too subtle. You need something that reflects your personality, in addition to being unique enough to stand out. Too flashy is too distracting. The Patek Calatrava looks like so many other watches out there that most people wouldn't know the difference unless you told them. I'll look around and see what I can suggest... BTW, a little background on your "persona" would be helpful. No sense offering a suggestion like a Rolex DSSD if you hate water. Off the top of my head, I'm leaning towards TAG's and Omega's...
  16. I've gotten spare parts for my old Cougar that were shipped like they were glass. I'll never understand people/companies that take the time to put something together and don't care about or consider the potential damage shipping will cause and the headaches that come with having to deal with dissatisfied customers. If you're going to do something, do it right. Considering the lack of care that went into the shipping process, it's no wonder he doesn't want to pay for returning the package. If the box is worth having, then biting the bullet is about the only option from what I can see. The bright side of it is that he's talking to you, and willing to send a replacement. I recently had to send an ACER monitor back for warranty service- on my dime. But, having a 21" monitor fixed right is worth the hassle so I'm not complaining. I hope things work out in the end. Take a deep breath and remember: there are so many people out there that are much worse off than yourself. You know the story about Bob, the guy with no arms and no legs- he can't even wear a watch, so no need for a watch box. See, don't you feel better already?
  17. $888,888.00 I'll take 2!
  18. I figure, this being the weekend and all, this thread should have a "what's on your wrist" pic so here's one... Look at it this way, at least he won't get stopped going through customs...
  19. What? You start a post and no pics to go with it?
  20. First, let me say thanks to you guys for being patient with me and offering your feedback. Just like anything else I've gotten into, I'll get better at this as time goes by, but for now, I'm still struggling with that learning curve. I'm not familiar with the watches that Peter at the Watchstation. The sad thing is that the pic I saw of the watch was from puretimewatch.com, so I assumed it was one of those. Here's the link to what I know about the watch: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Rolex-DeepSea-Se...ler-t88124.html ******ROLEX DEEPSEA SEADWELLER****** movement: asian-2836-2 / swiss eta-2836 crystal: Dome sapphire crystal size: 43mm x 17.5mm water resistance: < 50M remark: blue lume on hr markers and hands set / ceramic bezel / 1:1 copied as gen price: US$258 without shipment (add US$70 for swiss eta-2836 movt) paypal payment accepted Peter E-Mail: iwatchstation@gmail.com Watchstation album: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/watchstation/ ******ROLEX DEEPSEA SEADWELLER****** full photos: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/watc...A%20SEADWELLER/ I think it's safe to assume that the movement is Asian. With that said... -is it worth trying to return it and paying a little more for the Swiss ETA (although from what I've been reading here many of those are reps anyway) -consider another movement to replace the current? -just replace the one that's in there with another Asian? I've read threads about replacements but only paid enough attention to be mildly educated. Now that I have a reason to pay attention, I'll have to go back through and do some research. If you have any thoughts about a worthwhile movement to invest in, please chime in- especially if you have a source you'd like to share and a place to get the proper tool to use (I'm trying to stay away from pipe wrenches unless I absolutely have to). I'm not afraid to start working on this myself, as long as I have something to go by (which there are more than enough examples here to follow). Thanks also to freddy333, I wound the watch (which made me nervous because I didn't want to over-wind it) and it's been running for about 30 minutes so far without a problem. Still would like to look into replacement movements so on to searching I go... Edit: OK, so I put the watch on and it stopped again. Start it and let it sit, it keeps running. This link was very helpful > http://www.rwg.cc/members/know-shouldn-t-do-t77687.html Needs to be replaced or fixed me thinks... Ref: http://www.rwg.cc/members/To-simple-and-ea...;hl=sea+dweller
  21. I just put it on again and it's running without stopping so far in the last 15 minutes. I did try hand winding earlier but that didn't make any difference. Right now, I'm sending it good thoughts and telling it that it's OK, I still love it. So far so good. Maybe the gears just needed to settle into place... In the meantime, I'll look around for a watch guy. I've kinda gown attached to the little guy and am starting to feel guilty about sending him away. Is this wrong for me to feel this way? I mean, we just met and all... Spoke too soon. 17 minutes... stopped again.
  22. Mine does the same thing. I usually try to have it adjusted at a point where it's both a little loose and comfortable so I don't have to adjust it too often. My band preferences go metal then rubber for durability and cleaning, then leather which I rarely ever wear because it's hard to find a decent band that's long enough.
  23. I had my old rep Sub stolen about a year and a half ago and after spending a fair amount of time here I finally took the plunge and replaced it with a new DSSD that another member here had for sale. The watch came in today and looked better than the photo and weighs a ton! I put it on after giving it a few twists to get it started and it ran fine. My wife was thoroughly convinced that it was authentic. After wearing it actively for three hours, I compared it to the time I had set it at on my computer when I noticed it stopped running. I gave it a few more twists and it started again. After that, it kept stopping and will not stay running. Looking at the hands, it's not stopping at the same location and they all seem to be properly installed. Nothing I do will keep it running. My old Sub was worn every day and took a beating- and worked like a charm. The watch was well packed and hasn't been bumped or harmed in any way. When it stops, I thought maybe it could be a loose second hand, but there's no movement whatsoever inside when stopped. Obligatory photo... The person I purchased it from has been very helpful in working with me to see what can be done. He said it came from Peter at WatchStation, and is communicating with him for a possible return (though I prefer exchange). In the meantime, I thought it might be worth posting this here in case someone had some feedback or insight about how to deal with this problem. I believe this is an ETA movement.
  24. I just "vintagized" my rep Casio using the coin method (most of which I had to borrow from a friend). I think it turned out pretty good... It took me a while to get the right effect though. At first I just swished it around thinking that would do it, but these reps are sturdier than they look. Next, I slammed it on the floor a couple times. The third time I broke the bag and had to get another one. After about 15 minutes of picking up loose change, on the 5th try I got the look I was hoping for. I'm thinking now that I might have to soak it in tea to finish the aging process...
