Nice build watcher! With that 2824-2, you've got that nice high crown position of a gen. Good job.

Was Rock Hudson wearing a Daytona in Ice Station Zebra?
alligoat replied to TeeJay's topic in The Rolex Area
Serafino's last pic doesn't have the right printing below 12 o'clock to be a rolex- oyster- cosmograph, No crown at 12 either- looks more like lume maybe. I agree the case doesn't look right either -

Interesting comments about cloning Rolex movements
alligoat replied to automatico's topic in The Rolex Area
I would never do this and I doubt any of the other oldtimers would either. We can enjoy our frankens, but it's not to our advantage to put these watches in the AD's face. Likewise, I would never try to misrepresent my franken and sell it as a gen. -
You could check w/ Mark greenberg- moelarrycu- but this is a 703 crown pictured and $39 is a good price, but the BIN price is your best bet and be done w/ it. User to be in the old days you could pick up used 703 crowns for $25, but all Rolex parts are going up these days- Too many rep buyers out there, no doubt!
-
A gen SD crown is the same part as all of the subs- 24-703-0 for ss. Tube is also the same- 24-7030-0.
-
Part numbers for the 5513,5512 and 1680 bezel are all 315-5513. Like JAG said, the 1665 bezel is thicker- but I'd bet it has the same ID.
-
Sounds good to me. Only issue would be has it been serviced recently? If it's a 1601, bear in mind that parts will only get harder to find and Rolex may choose not to service that model, but most watchmakers can still take care of them. 16013's are easier to deal with since movement parts are still avaiable. Price is very fair- almost wholesale, esp. if the watch is in good shape.

Saw a 5 line engraved chrono bridge on VRM today for $2K as I recall. You just have to keep an eye peeled on ebay and be patient- seems like I've seen them in the past for $150-200.

Jandkwatches is ok, I'd stay away from whokesaleoutlet. You could also try Clark's- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clark-Sapphire-crystal-Rolex-25-295-C-295C-/230764347794?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35baa08192

Can anyone tell me about this sub ? its about 7 years old.
alligoat replied to altesporsche's topic in The Rolex Area
I think a TC dial and hands would be a good improvement. As for doing the crown guards, you need to copy pics of gens like this one That means trimming the insides and maybe the outsides also. The insides are easy, a few swipes with a file and followed by some polish. The outsides are a little more time consuming and it involves more polishing. When you're doing the CG's it's also a good time to install a gen crown and tube (I use the aftermarket tubes). I doubt a gen crystal will work on your watch- this is probably a 30.5mm rep crystal, and I agree with everything kbh said- TW case and it was good 5-7 years ago so you just have to accept it for what it is. You can do the old BK trick and file down the back of the insert and stick a $10 watchmaterial pearl in there, glue it back into the bezel. Your crystal may sit a little high, but it is what it is. I think your movement is a swiss eta and that's good- 7 years ago eta clones were virtually unheard of because swiss etas were easy to come by. You could pop the little Rolex decal off of your rotor- probably says 'swiss made 25 jewels' underneath. You're probably due for a servicing of your movement- I've had to service a number of my old etas- the ones from 2005-7, some have just quit on me. If your watch passes the WR test, and you service it, you should be good for another 5-10 years, or as long as you want to keep wearing it. -
Anyone want to build me a franken Day Date?
alligoat replied to paneraiguy's topic in The Rolex Area
I haven't tried this, but there might be a chance that the stem of the 3055 movt is too low in the case- just my educated guess. Thicker movt, maybe. A 1555/6 might work in the 16000 case- 16014 in your case would be ok. Ubi did such a build last year, but thats all I know at this point. -
Freddy may have the nicest example there- the one from NDT (other than his and Joey's) Phong also carries the 6542, albeit with the black dial. Yuki has or had the case and bezel, and the black dial Ingodd44 sells the white dials for the 6542 and 1675 from time to time. And of course, Angus has the $200 rep with the 2846-2. So white Pan Ams aren't that rare these days!

Here's a 6238 with the 'tumah' as LH calls it! http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-CASE-SET-VALJOUX-72-/330700680804?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&hash=item4cff4bee64 He's got a mish mash of stuff, if you don't see what you want, ask.

Nice Marty! I call it the boxy four insert! So K serial must date from 2003 or so, no lugholes in the case, SEL's. I saw a F-serial recently which also had the flat S dial- maybe an early F serial.
-
The first 'here' in freddy's post, probably not the second one and like he says, "if you know what you're doing" possibly the third. You could look here or on the other rep forums in the sales section or post a WTB.

I used the hollow mid links from a noobmariner 92350. Might of done a little filing to get it to fit, but it worked.
-
E, if you need a seconds hand for the asian movt, try raffles-time. It's like .17mm, maybe. I might have a yellow one from an old 5513 w/ the 2813 movt, Let me know if you still need one.
-
Yes, the 25-135 works fine. Date mag is not overwhelming, but it is ok. The only watch w/ 3x date mag is the 1680 w/ a 127 tropic.
-
Yep, maybe a set of Clark's Tudor mercedes hands Not sure how the 580 ends will work. On the 1601 and 16014 cases a set of 455B rep ends fit like a glove. If you use the 2mm springbars, it may be tricky reaming out the 580 ends so tha the sb's fit.
-
From the picture, it's a 93150 w/ 580 end pieces. The question would be does it have hollow mid links (if so, that's good)? End pieces look OK, crown emblem on the clasp is so-so. But for $50 you can't go too wrong. The 91350 is correct for the 5513, 5512, 1680 and 1665. It was used on the 16800 with 593 ends, and the 16610 with 501B ends up until around 1999-2000 when it was replaced by the 93250 w/ SELs. It probably won't take 2mm springbars w/o drilling, but that's just my guess, you need to ask Angus or Nikki.

Cheapie Cartier signed red & white dialed 1680s on Josh
alligoat replied to w0lf's topic in The Rolex Area
Trim the CG's and figure out what to do w/ the pearl. Hope the 2813 hangs in there, drill the lugholes, gen crown and aftermarket tube- as long as the price is right- $100-150, not the $888,888 stuff! -
Building a 1680 and 1665 - finally made up my mind

I just saw that red sub dial on VRM. I also saw a nice 6263 service dial for 1500 euros. -
these two dssd, what's difference apart from movement

Mineral glass then, just like I:1, lost in translation, more smoke and mirrors.
