  1. It's from TTK... and in a million pieces at the moment. Any particular part you'd like to see?
  2. Time is measured in moments, so why should you need a watch? OK, j/k
  3. Just in case some fellow noob runs into the same problem someday, I finally just put the case into a vise and lightly tapped a razor blade with a hammer between the ring and the case. Came off easy...
  4. I read a post in the archive suggesting a little tap if the ring was stubborn. I'm just using a standard razor blade, I'll go shop for a sharper edge... didn't think of that. Thanks for the lead.
  5. I have a stubborn crystal retaining ring on my 1665... tried to tap in a razor blade with a mallet but no luck getting any sort of gap going. Any advice?
  6. Just adding my thanks, this is fantastic! Very timely as well, the pics will really help as I shop for a good insert and work on carving down the lugs a bit...
  7. Actually just received my Clarks T39 SD today... had planned to buy a gen but was convinced to do otherwise by a few members. For $60 it looks really good IMHO and will definitely suit my needs. If I am lucky to find a killer deal on a gen someday (i.e. not $250 ), I'll just swap it.
  8. Definition of value for the money depends on what you value I suppose... The incremental cost of MBK given its fit & finish and the upside of the watch was worth it for me.
  9. I think the case markings look fantastic. Thanks for sharing! Are you going Clark or gen on the superdomes?
  10. Very nice! I prefer the black bezel, to m eye it makes the dial and markers pop.
  11. Yes, I see what you are pointing out - thanks a million! The crown appeared neither wide nor deep relative to the MBW, thus my initial concern.
  12. Interesting, thanks for looking! I'll try to take some better quality pics of mine once it's in-hand.
  13. I don't think that'd be too anal Very interesting thread, thanks gents. I just bought this crown which didn't have a totally clear description - I'm pretty sure it's a 703 but as long as so many pros are looking would you mind confirming? I need to get the tube and want to be totally certain I'm hunting the right part. Cheers!
  14. Yes, just to add there's actually a very good summary of this (with pics) over in the Timezone forums... I the link is posted somewhere on this board. As I recall from that post, the earliest SD actually had a twinlock with no dots under the crown. The 24-702 triplock came next (no o-ring) and then came the 24-703. The 24-7020 tubes are pretty tough to find.
  15. Very nice, I really like those CGs. I'm about to work on my own... any added tips?
  16. I've resized two 38mm J12s for two petite ladies with no problem. One sitting in front of me is sized at 6" (inside circumference) and it looks like the bracelet will go down to about 5 1/4" or so...
  17. I have had mine eye on this for a couple of years now... need to pull the trigger someday: Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa XL Movement: In house Hand winding. Power reserve 8 days Calibre 13 x 10 1⁄2 lignes - 29.3 x 23.6 mm 28 jewels. Double spring barrel. Swan-neck regulator
  18. My wife has petite wrists and didn't like large watches until she started wearing them. Now she's hooked. Her top 3: - PAM 051 with some nice, soft, colored straps to match her outfits - FM Conquistador white dial (lady's size) - Men's J12 w/ diamond bezel - she doesn't like jewelry very much but the bling on this one is kind of fun and she doesn't have to worry about the bezel aligningwith the 12 marker Good luck!
  19. Following-up, I assume this is the vintage 703 crown which happens to fit commonly available tubes? Cheers!
  20. Thanks a ton. I was worried about that. The crown is gogeous, but looks like you just saved me a big hassle.

    MBW 93150

Precisely the case with mine, TMG. Except I have a DRSD from TTK... the endlinks are stamped 503 B. Again, I was quite surprised. Just got the watch a couple of days ago and thought, "hmm, this bracelet feels light." Finally got a minute to look at it today and saw those hollow links! I may be wrong, but I seem to recall a some pics from Stephane a week or so ago where it looked like the date font had maybe improved as well... I best check that too!
  22. Practically speaking, it depends on the watch you are working with and what you are trying to do... but if you are handy and creative, most simple tasks such as opening case backs and sizing straps / bracelets can be done using simple, common tools (e.g. an eyeglass screwdriver, a needle, good pliers, duct tape, etc). There are correct tools to use for all tasks though as you narrow down what exactly you want to do you might want to search the board and also check-out Birdman's section in the member trade area.

Just curious, have the vintage MBWs always had hollow middle links? Based on some of the reviews I read, was expecting my watch to show-up with solid... Thanks.
  24. Unmodded, as far as accuracy and quality go, my FM Conquistador (no longer available) or my HBB (King - if you ignore the stickers on the rotor). Despite flaws, I love wearing my Davidsen 201A and VC Overseas (Ruby) - both are of exceptional quality.
