  1. If you like sport, go and see the Santiago Bernabeu, the home of the world's most successful soccer club, Real Madrid. Atletico de Madrid are also worth checking out, they are more homely, but still one of the top teams. Sadly I never got to use my 30GBP ticket from a few years back as I was unemployed and didn't want to get overdrawn Let me know how it is there!
  2. The head of the MLB quoted the rulebook... not sure really what's happening. And you don't want to win by some little-used rule rather than on the field and being better. If it stands like that, we know Florida is a state well known for winning things via the courts...
  3. I hope you haven't been using dealers' waterproof services Remeber the golden rule of reps and waterproofness... take your watch off before going into the water if you want to be 100% safe!
  4. Isn't Sharp a majority shareholder in Pioneer? I've also found this site for reviews of TVs... they seem to like Plasmas. There seem to be 2 main TV reviewers and one of them loves plasmas. http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/televisions/0,39030229,1,00.htm
  5. Info on rear projection: http://hometheater.about.com/cs/television/a/aarearprotv.htm
  6. I haven't read this yet... I've printed it off for my dad to read on the train to work tomorrow It's about the Mitsubishi 60" DLP rear projection screen. http://www.hdtv-news.co.uk/2008/05/29/mits...d-60735-dlp-tv/ Back to the 1080p ... I've read that that is too expensive at the moment to broadcast signals and may never happen... who knows what the future will bring though. 720p will become standard though. [edit: seems like the UK broadcasts HD in 1080i according to Pugwash, will have to look this up at some point] As of now, there is only one game on the PS3 that has a native 1080p resolution (besides my dad's unlikely to play PS3...!) and Blu-Ray that uses 1080p.. something that is also an unlikely source for my father to use. More likely me with my Casino Royale (thanks Mickey!)
  7. He really wants a 50 inch if possible... he's bought a new house and is moving soon, so will finally get a new TV to replace the LG 24 inch LCD my sister's lent him most of the year. The through lounge is quite long I think .. 32 feet or so, but it will be kind of divided into two with a dining area and a sitting area with a TV at the top. The TV that went kaput was a Sony 32" screen. I know he has a tendency towards Pioneer or Panasonic at the moment... so I am looking! I'll relay any suggestions.
  8. My father's TV has died and he wants to get a new one for around 800GBP, so that automatically puts the Pioneer Kuro way out of range (unless someone is donating ). He's asked me to find out which is the best one to get for his price range. I'm leaning towards a rear projection DLP unit as it is cheaper, and you can get a bigger size. There is a 72" Samsung available for 780GBP, only problem being that it's in the US. I've found a smaller 61" Samsung DLP screen for 827GBP which I'll ask and see what he thinks. http://www.hdtv-news.co.uk/2008/08/04/sams...1a650-dlp-hdtv/ If not that, I think he'd prefer plasma, and down that route, I have read that Panasonic is next in line after Pioneer (and will be manufacturing the plasma units for Pioneer in future). After them perhaps Samsung/LG but it seems more of a crap shoot there. My father would want at least a 50 inch TV and I don't think the Panasonic plasmas are available in the correct price range. LCD I have mostly discounted, as I see it at the bottom of the TV range, although that would be an option if there was something just that good at the right price. My opinion's always been under 40" get LCD, 40" and up you can take advantage of plasma (they seem to produce a better black for one thing), and if you are on a budget and cannot afford a plasma, a rear projection TV will be a compromise to the plasma. From what I've gleaned, there are a lot of LCD panel manufacturers so it's easy for any no name brand to put together an LCD TV, while it seems that Panasonic are going to be the main plasma manufacturers. The general perception by the general public is that LCD is the best TV technology, which is why a big company like Sony stopped making plasmas. I remember Homer talking about the joys of plasma (and his Kuro) and Pugwash explaining a lot of how movies translate to the small screen of TV. I don't really see OLED being viable at the moment, though that is likely to be a big thing in the future, it only seems to be used in mobile phones at the moment. After a lot of reading, I've come to the conclusion full 1080p (1920x1080 resolution) is unnecessary on TVs smaller than 40" as the screen size is not large enough to get the full benefits. 1080i or 1080p is great for larger screens where you can really appreciate the viewing experience. Any thought and advice, and suggestions? (Also, rear projection TVs seem to be harder to find in the UK than in the US for some reason).
  9. The new touchscreen Storm with a 3.25 inch screen may be calling your name Higher resolution that the Bold/iPhone too!
  10. You may be interested in this (probably only of interest for males): http://crackberry.com/introducing-pinota-1...ainment-network
  11. Dual SIM Samsung S9502 Duos leaks, hits on Nokia 8800 Arte Probably around 1000 Euros... at least it has a 5MP camera, but rich people have their own personal photographer and biographer
  12. I know it's not an Apple site... a lot of the requests there have probably been filled for by apps already, right ?
  13. Lucky bu**er.. but why am I not surprised? Can you share your installation file for free with everyone else ? I'm now getting file 29 of 38... Now here's something for you to debunk.. if anyone can, Pugwash can! http://pleasefixtheiphone.com/ Great way for a company to get free feedback too!
  14. Very very interesting... where can I learn more? And I mean that...
  15. Oh yeah, for those who actually use their phone as a phone, ie. for calls, the Storm has a 2nd microphone at the back to aid in it's background noise cancellation.. I thik there's a Samsung or LG that is implementing this as well... probably become standard in the next year or 2.
  16. I've never wanted a Windows Mobile phone... a few guys at work have it and love them... but more Windows? Just puts me off! The Blackberry Storm 9530 is for the US I think ... it'll work everywhere in the world though as it is CDMA AND GSM (it has the right 3G frequencies for South Korea/Japan too!). The rest of the world release is the GSM only 9500 which will work all around the world too, but probably go onto a GSM network in the US, instead of Verizon's CDMA. I heard the Verizon 3G network is the best and fastest in the US... a common complain I've come across from iPhone users on AT&T. I think the Storm is the only touchscreen phone that's exciting me at the moment, and that's partly because of the clickable screen. Downside is no wi-fi so I guess tariffs are going to have to give true unlimited data usage... Then again, I have only ever bothered using wi-fi on my N82 at home. T-Mobile 3G seems to be pretty good where I am. Links for Blackberry Storm specs... 9500 (on Vodafone): http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_storm_9500-2534.php 9530 (on Verizon): http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_storm_9530-2540.php
  17. And yes I'm cheap (poor) ... I'm still getting bytor's links for Pro Evo from rapidshare on the free accounts... they make you wait 15 mins between each throttled download! Days later I've got upto file 28
  18. Good product...but... I was doing something else... moving installation files around from computers in a training room set-up. No network setup there either (no network cables, routers, network points, bluetooth or wireless cards). Half of the computers weren't working running the training software properly, and the trainer didn't know how to fix it so I had to do it (or miss out on what he was teaching!). Only way I could was to take working files from one computer and re-install the standalone SQL Server on each computer, then get the database set up, configured and running properly, etc etc. Only thing I had was the memory card in my phone and the tiny USB reader on the keyring. This is the one that came free with the memory card: http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(13...ro_Readers.aspx Though the above program sounds pretty good and will be great for everyone But for a work thing, I wouldn't have paid my own money for it, and if you knew the kind of place I work in you'd know they wouldn't either Yes I'm underpaid!
  19. Try the N96 16gb (with memory card slot!). Only downgrade is slightly on the camera, otherwise things are upgraded and it's now on FP2 as well
  20. The only phones I know that handle Flash are the newer Nokia N-series (N82, N95, both with latest firmware, N96) and the E71. That article says that Adobe have made a working Flash version for the iPhone, but for some reason Apple won't implement it... very odd.
  21. I had a feeling it might have that That's a good thing! But my problem would be copying out passages from it, or from emails etc. There are a few friends who send around email all day discussing different things and so on... Which is why I don't want anything to do with Windows Mobile! Here's the link to the specifications... http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_hd-2525.php It has the most RAM I've seen on a phone at 288mb. If they could supply this handset to Apple to make the iPhone3G2, that would be a kiler. I think I may have read about that not coming to the US too, but I think they said they had something special lined up for the US... who knows what that will be? I read somewhere the reason the US has different frequencies as opposed to the ones used everywhere else in the world is that the military uses it over there, don't know if that is true though. Maybe they'll all finally harmonize with 4G hopefully... make things so much easier for everybody! I was hoping the iPhone would have what I'm looking for ... especially after Puggy's rave reviews... but as I said, too many little things that add up to a big thing that puts me off. There probably is no phone that has everything I want. I guess the N82 with a qwerty keyboard perhaps. Looks of a phone don't matter to me as much as usability. I can even copy and paste on the N82! Maybe I am just impressed by my first smartphone I may have to wait for Apple'sv hardware keyboard iPhone I think... or Nokia, Apple, Blackberry getting together and making a hybrid with the best of all 3 ... yes impossible How much for the card? I'm in the UK and with the falling pound I may just have to wait for another card I can bookmark them on my N82 as well, but I'm a serial hoarder (how do you think I ended up with 3000+ records and CDs, and over 20 leather jackets that I rarely wear... then there's the 50+ sneakers, and all the watches, and people wonder why I don't have money!)... I have to have them on tap! At the moment, I have 1gb worth of music vids, soccer clips and other stuff saved on there. I've got loads more saved on the computer at home. Is MobiTubia available on the iphone? It's free for Nokia... I'd recommend getting it if you don't have it already and want to save the videos in the full quality .flv format. Maybe I'll get that Storm and try it out for the 14 day period they give you before returns... If I like it, I'll probably have to go get it sim free/unlocked. And anyone know why Sony Ericsson don't let you use your phone without a sim card (say for music listening) like Nokia, Blackberry and Apple do?
  22. I've just been reminded a big reason why I prefer memory cards - I don't bother with the USB key/pen drives anymore as I just carry around this tiny memory card reader... I've just transferred some training materials from a course last week to my computer... I've moved around installation files on training courses as well, to get computer software to work etc. It comes in so useful ! And not forgetting saving lots of youtube videos... nice to be able to transfer the flv files to the computer easily and quickly or to other phones (by putting the memory card in there if bluetooth doesn't work or the file is too big).
  23. This is just sour grapes... http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39029453,49299502,00.htm
  24. Big reason I think it could work is I've been offered a BB Storm as a free upgrade on a similar contract to the iPhone's (35GBP a month). Not bad for a brand new release. And some may prefer Verizon's or Vodafone's network to O2/AT&T etc. Apple will still outsell, even if the Storm proves to be better or not... Apple are master marketeers.
