Wandering Asian 7750 Hour Totalizer Hand - New
krpster replied to freddy333's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Either that or it is gummed up and prevents proper motion when the cam slides on the reset lever. -
My deepest condolences to his family, especially his son. A true gentlemen who shared with us the most difficult event of his life. Truly sadening. You will be missed Cats. Carpe diem!

Both look like clones of the ETA 28xx series (ie:2824 or 2836). The pictures are a little blurry to see for sure but from what I can make out both are clones.

+1 Very excited as well. Thanks for the trailer.

First A7750 teardown (with pics) and a question
krpster replied to GenTLe's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Well done! Looks like a very successful and education project for you. -
Frankly speaking cib0rgman that is poor advice. Just because you have had good luck doesn't mean every one will. The whole issue with reps is that there is no quality confirmation and no consistency. So to say that because one happened to be water resistent they all are is not correct.

Hello from Burlington Ontario Canada

Welcome aboard! -
I would definitely be weary of something like that. Extremely odd for one letter to be missing. The Transocean reps are very very good. Get them to provide a tagged picture of the inside of the watch if you want to confirm authenticity along with pictures of matching serial numbers (case, cards, etc). Having said all that, even if gen I would not buy it with a defect like that.

Looks great. Comparing the pics to my Gen and there are only a few minor discrepancies. No worries though, the V2 will fix them.

SuperOcean Heritage SS - Asia ETA 2824 Stripped Crown
krpster replied to dabolzich's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
It is the only option for repair. Only other thing you can do is eliminate the screw down part and shorten the stem so that the crown sits flush to the case in winding position.- 9 replies

Calibers comparation ETA Mitota and their clones - the list
krpster replied to GenTLe's topic in Movement Q&A
Nice summary. Cheers -
Definietly agree. Love my monster. It is my go to watch when ever I have to actually do anything (sports, working outside, construction, etc)

No. Coils should not be touching anywhere and should be evenly spaced all the way to the center. The second most outer coil looks to be slightly deforemed causing it to touch on one side and be too far apart on the other. Either there is something on the spring making it stick on the one side or there is permanent deformation causing the distortion of the coil.

Agree completely. Great project. -
What do you need to have done? Depending what it is I might be able to help you out.

A shame. His stand up act was tremendous. I used to listen to it over and over again and it still made me laugh.

From all accounts above it sounds like the issue is the crown. Very similar to the old SOH V2 crown problem. Basically the spring in the crown is too soft and is not enough to overcome the tension in the key less works. So when you try to push in to winding position from date set all that happens is you bottom out the crown against the tube with the movement not changing modes. Sometimes if you pull out to hand setting position and push in quickly the momentum of key less works moving will help it move past and back into winding position. The fix of an overly longer stem will not fix your problem. At least not entirely. While it will allow you to bottom out the crown and push it back into winding position it will prevent your crown from seating properly when you screw it down. Ideal length may just work, stem exactly the length so that crown is fully compressed when fully screwed down, a nd is worth a try. Ideal solution is to fix the crown. Theoretically possible to disassemble the crown and rework or replace the spring to give more tension. Or get your hands on a replacement or Gen crown.

Depending on what you have currently on the movement yes. I would expect you likely have the STD height (H1) pinions so it is possible to replace with taller ones. H5 will give you an extra 1.0mm which is what you will want. H2 only gives an extra 0.25mm. However, you will also need to replace the second wheel to get the seconds hand pinion to clear the minute wheel which will require quite a bit of tear down from the back side.

Never heard that before. Are you speaking about a specific case? Not been my experience with any watches or movements I have worked on.
