Yup, I have nothing but good things to say as well. I do find however that they often have no stock on very common parts. Perhaps I need to try the inquiry thing. Also, 50% of the time I find them cheaper than the big O.

You guys are right, the content really doesn't match the title of the list. I actually didnt really think in those terms when watching the vid. Better name would perhaps be top 10 popular watches or maybe top 10 most recognized watches. But no matter what it is titled there could never be agreement on content as everyone will have a different opinion.

Screws on the opposite side. Take two out from the same link an it will slide out from the other side (shown in your pic) the pins are attached to the link but you may have knocked them free from banging on them so be careful.

I think you are right kbh but then I think that the date will be a little sunken. This is because the lip around the movement is deeper on the 2836 to keep the dial clear of the normal works on the front side.

No sense keeping it if you don't like it or wear it. I am sure whoever gave it to you would not want you to hang onto it knowing that was the case. Gifts should be enjoyed and make you happy or have some meaning.

No dice. As you mentioned, with the day function the front side of the 2836 makes it different from the 2824. The 2824 DW is pretty flat while the 2836 has a rise in it to allow clearance to the day function works. The backside is where these two movements are common.

Actually looking at the pics I think he may have a bigger problem on his hands. It looks to me like the crown may have actually separated. You can see the sleeve still in the crown tube. I have seen this with many different types of spring loaded crowns, although typically PAMs. The outer and inner portion separate with the inner portion remaining attached to the stem and the outer portion just coming right out. Here is an example of a PAM that I repaired recently. In this particular case I was able to reassemble the crown but it depends how it failed. So best case for your friends SOH is that the crown can be put back together and all is good. Worst case a new crown will be needed, which may be hard to source. In either case it is best to send it to someone who can deal with the repair one way or another.

Hard to say. Can you post a closeup of the keyless as you have them assembled? Also, strange that the works are out again after only installing the hands. That shouldn't happen, unless you did something re-installing the stem. Perhaps a component of the works is worn out.

Seen that animal before... It is called "helicoidal" and is due to the fact that FxrAndy mentioned, older 2824. For reference the keyless works are different from the modern ones as well. I got a replacement of this type from Ofrei. Now lets see a shot of the watch that baby is in.
