  1. Franken Daytona for today... Happy New Year, RWG!
  2. I always wondered what a contrasting chapter ring might look like on the panda. Now that I see how great it looks, I have some thinking to do on which direction I want to take mine Thanks for the pics of the Portuguese chrono family! They all look great
  3. ROFL- I just clicked that camera thread I started back in '07- I don't remember it going back 7 pages though Kinda fun to take a look back, especially when I see that even TTK participated in that thread. :
  4. I agree with f333; the release may be a bit stiff, but it should let loose.
  5. Looks great, buddy! But I definitely want to see a shot of the movement buttoned up in it's case!
  6. I don't recall what it was called specifically, but I do know that I got it from Homer. I passed it along to Lanikai, where it is currently enjoying the tropical environments of the Aloha State
  7. For those that did vote for me- Can they now re-cast their votes for the remaining nominees? EDIT: Question answered above
  8. I'm very appreciative of the nomination and votes, but I feel as though there were so many others that made far larger contributions than I. Just being nominated means a lot to me, so I thank everyone who did so in my name, but I would like to graciously withdraw
  9. I has to vote for a Destro too! I lubs the lefty style.
  10. I'm usually a bracelet kind of guy, but I do have a couple of pieces that require straps since a bracelet isn't exactly a fitting option for these. PAM002 Pre-A build with an old Dirk Deluxe: 3714 franken build with a TWB kevlar-look rubber strap: From time to time, I'll do some G10 style straps as well, but find that it's the metal links that work best for me.
  11. I agree! Looks great, especially if this is your first go at reluming! This is definitely a skill and an art that takes a significant amount of practice and repetition. Looking good so far!
  12. I had one of these Chinese tourbillons sometime back. While not an automatic, it was a fantastic watch, and the tourby cage spinning in the aperture was just mesmerizing to look at. If I were more of a dress watch kind of guy, I'd have kept it, no doubt.
  13. Mmmmmmm.... So yummy!! I'm just thankful to have one of these beauties happily ticking away in it's home nestled in my watch box
  14. Made my votes Would it be bad form to request my name be removed from the list?
  15. Weds- Going to meet RoninQ for some lunch today; by special request I'll be wearing this one: And on the right wrist.... TBD. Thurs (NYE), it's gonna be a 4th Generation PO franken during the day: And for the evening, my 3717 franken: Happy New Year, RWG!
  16. I'm not much of a TAG guy, but the Grand Carrera Caliber 36 and 17 look very intriguing to me.
  17. Are we talking best rep as released in '09? Or best rep purchased in '09 (reglardless of release date)?
  18. Mmmmm... Snowflake and Pepsi. A great combo indeed!
  19. Happy Holidays, lani and rek! Thanks for the Holiday wishes Indeed- If the manufacturers just took this one a little further, this could be a phenominal piece! Let's hope this watch is worthy of a V2 in the near future I also picked up one of these MMCs; great watch, beautiful in execution, but the damn thing is HUGE! Like wearing a dinner plate on my wrist. I don't wear it, but I do look at it often Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
  20. This is a common problem with the rep dial- The lume just pops off the marker. I've found that the easiest fix with best results is this:
  21. Thoughts, prayers and best wishes to those keeping us safe. Thank you to our troops, for all that they do.
  22. Just like my Hawaiian Bro, I ended up picking up a white UN MMD, though mine came after some mixed thoughts on the rep. I had always found the MMD to be an interesting design- As hackr once commented, it's like a Yacht-Master on steroids, and I'd have to agree. The MMD has several of the same characteristics, yet it ostensibly has a bit more presence due to it's overall size and bukly case design, whereas the 16622 Yachtie is a slimmer, more elegant and in contrast, a more conservative design. My initial thoughts on the rep were mostly concern of the reliability of the movement. I was really hoping that the gen movement could be reverse engineered and cloned (which I think should be possible since the base movement is an ETA 2892). I was also a bit disappointed to see that certain small details like the bezel weren't done to a greater deal of accuracy; when you have watches like the Hublot Big Bang with complex case construction replicated to precision, getting a two piece bezel + insert should be a snap in comparison. None the less, I decided to give it a go, and I have to say that my expectations were exceeded. The dial is amazing, the case finish is well executed and the bracelet was well done. As lani mentioned, the bracelet is sharp, and having some form of extension or maybe a butterfly clasp would have been a good choice for fitting over the hand. I should also note that there are some slots/grooves/channels in the end links that would probably benefit from some additional polishing/reworking as they were rather crude (at least on mine). The movement is running well, and the working PR display is also a nice touch. If one of the factories took this watch to the next level by correcting the bezel (making it a 2pc. bezel and insert), improving the pearl, changing the numbering plaque on the side with a silver plate, and cloning the gen movement, this would be a Super Rep in my opinion. The current rep as it stands is in my opinion 80% there; then again for the price, it's a hard watch to beat I initially took delivery of both the white and black, but ended up keeping the white If the small flaws were corrected, my next one just might be the black dial Thanks for looking! Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings... //ubi
