  1. No actual alignment or orientation of the coronet on the top of the crown. The orientation will be dependant on where it happens to be once tightened down...
  2. Maybe the solution is to build one Start with the case- Perhaps the $100 TTK special, add an ETA 2836 (minus the datewheel), genuine dial and hands... Follow up with a gen crown/tube, insert and call it done! One smokin' piece for not a lot of money (in relative terms)... TTK Sub $100-ish ETA 2836 $65 Hands $30 Gen dial $250 (guesstimate based on the last one I saw for sale) Gen crown/tube $80 Gen insert $100 Grand total- $625 Of course, that figure can flux up/down depending on cost of dial and other parts. I know that the crown/tube and insert can be found for less, so it might all balance out...
  3. Well... A case wrench is a tool specifically for the opening of casebacks: The tape method is basically taking a piece of packing or duct tape, crumpling into a ball (sticky side out), pressing a sticky side to the case back, and while applying force, turning the caseback and tape ball counterclockwise to unthread the caseback.
  4. Are you using a wrench? Or going about it with the tape method?
  5. You want the 5514- Very first watch in the Rolex line with the He valve. this was the Sea-Dweller's predacesor... BTW- Skeet & Urul's guide is not one of the books I'd recommend for Rolex facts.
  6. BT- Couldn't have said it better My hat's off to you, kind sir! Cheers, Randy
  7. You've got the Franken-Subs down to perfection, Tribal! Looks great! Especially with the lug holes! I love it....
  8. Ivan, Many thanks for the kind words Much appreciated! The fun in this hobby is to build these watches... But also to interact with others who have the same passion as well. We can all learn from each other, and that's what makes the forum so great- It provides us the means to share knowledge! I learn a ton from many of the contributors here... And I hope that some are able to learn from my experiences as well. At any rate... If this one should ever find itself needing a new home... You'll be one of the first to know! Best regards, R
  9. Indeed. Sometimes you need to take a step back and re-prioritize the things going on in your life. As kruzer stated- When the fun is gone, and your personal life is begining to suffer, it's time to refocus on what's important.
  10. Hmmm... You may be right Neil. My wife once told me that I might be possibly crazy. That was when I asked her opinion on if I should take off .000001mm more on the CG's I was filing... She looked at it closely and said 'I think you're flipping nuts! .000001mm is way too much' and that I needed .0000001mm instead...
  11. Some details, inaccuracies, etc. simply bother some people more than others. I wouldn't say that I'm crazy over these things, but to me some details are more important to have correct from the start than others. When it involves issues with the hard parts (i.e. the case), and when it revolves around there being too little material than too much to start with, then yes... That is a detail that matters to me because it's not very easy to add metal where it simply is not to begin with. So... I do what I can to start with the best case that fits my needs and requirements. Can someone spot that my rehaut is deeper or shallower than others from 5 feet away? [censored] if I know... But, it's a detail that I look at, so I want it right. But... Perhaps I'm not a good example of rep mentality, and 'crazy' is a relative term to the person contemplating the situation. As someone who has spent 1/3 the cost of a genuine Daytona building my own (simply because I wasn't satisfied with the rep offerings available), I could be crazy in my own right. Other members might think I'm crazy.... But, people are allowed to form their own decisions, as I do what I want for me P.S. I suspect that my wife thinks I'm crazy...
  12. haveblue... I'd love to see some pics of yours!
  13. I can't even register for the lottery. Just get a log in prompt when I go to the registration page...
  14. It's MUCH nicer than the first few prototypes... But maybe a little too glossy? Throw 1 coat of matte over the top to balance it out a bit, and I think you're set!
  15. BT... You need to be writing television scripts! Just held my El Primero Daytona up to my ear (which I do from time to time) to listen to the rapid tictictictic of the 36.600 beat...
  16. Bwahahaha.... Television these days.... *sigh*
  17. LOVE that pic!! Kind of along the same lines (though not as visually striking...)
  18. BT- Pearl looks very good; especially in that 2nd pic! Nice and glossy... Did you mod it?
  19. Heh... I think I'm detrimental to my own cause...
