  1. Have a great Australia Day and hoist a pint for me!
  2. Blue for one more day, me thinks!
  3. +2 - Also, some of the decorative bits have been known to fall off due to loose screws...
  4. You have to drill the holes in the band ends to a little over 2mm along with the tubes in the end-links. Use very high RPM on the end-link tubes or the bit will grab and break the solder bond loose. BUT, they will probably still work without the tubes even if you manage to twist off a couple...
  5. My parts guy is buying one for me, complaining about quality every step of the way! Hopefully he should be able to ship to me (along with my other stuff) right after the CN NY in the "Year of the Rabbit"! I did have him inquire into a quantity discount and he said the seller would not discount. I asked him about a wholesale source and he said the watch is made in Hong Kong so he can't source it from anybody he deals with. If/when I get it I will do an in-depth review w/teardown.
  6. Chris, I completely demolish things!! I don't think I measured the dial but it fits a rep 7750 Daytona case perfectly. This particular example is a gen dial/gen movement in a rep Daytona case. My other is a gen dial/A7750 movement in a rep Daytona case. This really is one of the easiest builds around. Dial fits movement, everything drops into the Daytona case with no spacer required.
  7. M, I have about 8 Rollies and 10 Tudors. I just popped up the three pics to illustrate my "horological evolution", so to speak...
  8. Very nice DJ, mjmj! I will be in fantasyland today...
  9. Pretty much all reps have waaay too fat crowns, I for the life of me can't figure out why they do this. You should be able to get a tube from Yuki for $12/shipped and a good used gen crown off fleabay for $30 - $50... Other than that, not too bad for a beater!
  10. I'm just taking a guess that that's what he is describing. Here is from wikipaedia: Electric discharge machining (EDM), sometimes colloquially also referred to as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking or wire erosion,[1] is a manufacturing process whereby a desired shape is obtained using electrical discharges (sparks). Material is removed from the workpiece by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes, separated by a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage. One of the electrodes is called the tool-electrode, or simply the ‘tool’ or ‘electrode’, while the other is called the workpiece-electrode, or ‘workpiece’.
  11. He may be trying to describe EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) in layman's terms. That is beyond me...
  12. Maybe someday when I grow up I'll have a nice white Franken 16520... I don't have anything remotely in the league with Ubi's Frankens but this forum has caused me to evolve considerably. I started about a year and a half ago and was happy with: Then enter the two "instigators", Ubi and Lani, and with their help and generosity (and dark influence) I put this together: Emboldened by this experiance I started getting a bit more brave and put drill to case and began building these: Then I really got carried away: Now, I won't hardly build anything without a gen dial to start with: My tastes and expectations have changed quite a bit since bitten by this bug. In the beginning I didn't like anything without CGs or smaller than 40mm, now only 25% of my watches have CGs and only three are 40mm or larger...
  13. I'm surprised you didn't melt the gasket!
