This has been an extremely durable (except crystals) watch, probably the most abused of any watch I've owned. It has weld splatters stuch to the band and the original crystal had little craters burned into it from welding spatters and it never complained! Plus, once charged up it's almost like a searchlight when the lights go out!
The ticking 5 seconds at a time is an indication that the calendar data has been lost.
Here's a couple of pics. I just realized, after taking these pics, that I pressed the bezel back on a bit off after putting in the new crystal.
This DW overlay issues caused me to look pretty bad at anniversary time. I put the watch together and presented it but told the wife she couldn't wear it until I fixed the DW issue, several months later...
Chi - That would be great, and if it's black my wife would be in watch heaven! I don't ever recall seeing any of the Tudor ladies dials on fleabay. If you still need a shield I have several Jumbo dials I doubt I'll ever find cases for...
Toad - I'll try to take a pic tomorrow. It's 8-10 years old and rather beat up and I've replaced the crystal with a plain flat one since I couldn't find one with the extra-wide magnifier! The sweep hand is "ticking" nicely now that I've re-input the calendar data...
I really want to use the gen case and dial and make a really nice LDJ Franken and if I can find a 24mm LOP case that will make for a really nice no-date.
OK, with the movement technical docs I was able to re-set the year, month, and date and the calendar appears to be working correctly! PITA!!!!!!!! Having to short little tabs along the edge of the movement to the + side of the battery, etc. Sure gives me a new appreciation for mechanical movements!
Thanks for all the help/suggestions from everybody...
O/S, I have the manual and that doesn't cover inputting the calendar data.
Toad - it's a Seiko 8F33 movement.
The really irritating thing is that it was working fine but in the low battery mode so I bought a new battery for it. I knew the battery had to be changed quickly or loose the calendar data so was pretty quick (< 1 minute) getting it swapped but it didn't matter...
I'm at a brick wall. I've been trying to build the wife a nice Ladies size franken and it seems everything I try to come up with doesn't work! First I tried to make a Ladies Oyster Perpetual (no-date) and discovered the dial was too small for a Ladies DJ case and I haven't found a correct case yet. I had a gen Ladies DJ case so I snagged a gen dial, I have ETA 2761 movements, but I can't come up with a date wheel overlay and the ETA date wheel only fills about 2/3 of the Rolex date window. So, I figured I'd do a nice Tudor Princess Oysterdate but so far the number of gen dials I've found have been zilch!!!
Help me Obi-Wan...
I have an old Seiko Perpetual Calendar 8f33 powered watch which I just changed battery in. I thought I swapped it out pretty quickly but the sweep hand increments in 5 second "batches" and surfing I've done indicates the calendar data needs to be input. None of these net hits have indicated how to do it! Anyone here know the secret? The watch has sentimental value which makes me want to keep it around...
At the same time there was a blurb on the news yesterday about watch companies trying to figure out how to attract more customers since watch ownership (especially among the younger set) is down considerably. Some companies deserve to go [censored]-up!
Is it just me or is anyone else getting sporadic "re-sending" of old messages from RWG? I just got around 15 of 'em all at once and have gotten several others over the past few days. These are all old messages that have been read and they don't show up as new messages on the forum message system.
I have to occur on the Seiko lume. I have just a plain-Jane Seiko that is shockingly bright and I can still see read the time when the alarm goes off in the morning!
You need to take into account that the majority of the gages you will run into read "gage pressure" which accounts for the 1 atm and start at zero. Specific text should read "inflate to xx psig" which is pounds per square inch gage. In a gage that reads "absolute pressure" zero would be a complete vaccuum. Of course, this all depends on my remembering stuff from a semester of pneumatics I took in college many moons ago...
Cripes! And to think in my younger and more stupid days I wanted to bag one of these with a .44 Magnum when I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright!! I wouldn't go near one without a grenade launcher now that I've developed some wisdom!
