  1. How about just going with a 20mm lizard or a gator strap?
  2. Thank you everyone for your comments alligoat, you are correct, that is a 24-700 twin-lock
  3. Beautiful shots of your two beauties Ubi!
  4. That's my birthday, and no better way to celebrate than seeing Bond get some bad guys ....and girls
  5. Nice patina on that dial freddy! You've got a vintage rep (PS: is that worth more now?) (PPS: 1987, good lord, I don't even think I had my thirty dollar day-date I bought in front of the Empire State building yet!)
  6. I agree, a near gen franken is pretty inexpensive. In fact, I've got a gen 5500 case with the correct bezel if anyone's interested
  7. I agree with Ubi. After hanging around here for long enough, I slowly graduated to mostly all frankens with gen movements. I've got a few ETA's laying in the box for eventual use if needed, but just haven't gotten around to having them pre-serviced, so if something goes bad I'll just have a little more down time.
  8. Awesome Laz! I'm loving it! That dial looks a lot better in your watch than in my parts bin! Did you mod a pearl, or is that a gen?
  9. Wow, I like it! You did a great job on it kbh, and kudos for taking on a project other than just another sub! Wear it well JJ
  10. Hi Angus, If you're still checking this thread, PAM had a decent pro hunter project, check it out: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry492629 I'd be interested
  11. I agree; however, I would go with a gen
  12. Wow, that looks awesome freddy! Makes you wish for the good old days, when the Captain who flew this ship probably wore a '42:
  13. Beautiful job lani! That faded insert gives it the perfect touch, RG did a great job on your dial! Wear it well
  14. I'm sure the guys on VRF will let you know

    Fake sub?

That's what I thought. Lots of expensive stuff on this watch; however, I agree with others that the stampings look shaky at best. The bracelet is ridiculous too. Like a gen enthusiast friend once said, "If you find one thing wrong, chances are you'll find something else, and then another, etc"
  16. http://cgi.ebay.fr/Rolex-Vintage-Rare-Red-...id=p3286.c0.m14
  17. Stephane and I were walking down canal st not too long ago, and we saw all the reps displayed clear as day (except rolex). Trust me, each one was worse than the other, and if you would spend the time to haggle, you could walk away with any of them for $35. Welcome to the forum. I agree with Toadtorrent, stick around a while and read up, there are lots good deals to be had. Cheers, JJ

mil_sub, you might feel differently if you were digging for your brothers seven years ago in that pile. This is a sad day here in AMERICA. I find your words totally uncalled for and offensive. Whatever the hell your political views are, they certainly are not welcome here today. This thread was started as a remembrance of those who died, have a little respect.
  19. Hahaha!!! that's perfect! Back on subject, I had originally thought that the piece you had to grind down was a removable crystal retaining ring. It's starting to kinda hopeless, as I can see you cannot remove any further metal from that part without the bezel falling off. I wonder if anyone might have a retainer ring laying around with their supplies. If you could find a retainer ring, you might be able to grind the existing metal clean off, and install the crystal with the correct retainer ring
  20. Senator BARACK OBAMA was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York ... HE spoke for almost an hour on HIS future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living, should HE one day become the President. HE referred to his career as a Senator, how he had signed 'YES' for every Indian issue that came to his desk for approval. Although the Senator was vague on the details of his plan, he seemed most enthusiastic about his future ideas for helping his 'red sisters and brothers'. At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud Senator then departed in his motorcade, waving to the crowds. ...A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they came to select the new name they had given to the Senator. They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of [censored] it can no longer fly.
  21. I thought that if it were possible to grind the exposed lip of the crystal ring off, it would weaken the ring substantially. If you were to use a gen tropic 116 (or 115), and it was a tight fit to get the ring over it, it might make things a bit easier if you were to grind away a small amount of the inside diameter of the crystal ring, thus relieving some of the stress on the ring as it was pressed over the crystal. I've never seen one stretch and break, but you never know what might happen after you ground the top half of it off so the insert would clear.
