The 2846 in my Phase I 6542 got its GMT parts from a 2836. The transplant took place without incident. There is a thread or 2 journaling the work that you can search out.
Definitely, a step in the right direction. Needs a more accurate cyclops (magnification a bit too low) to reach the Big Leagues, but I am impressed how quickly Josh fixed the dial (relocating the index markers closer to the dial's periphery).
Either a WM9 Sub (& have a watchmaker run a water pressure test before you wear it in moisture & yearly thereafter) or a G-Shock (good-to-go out-of-the-box). The Sub will sate your vanity & the G-Shock will tell people you mean business & never let you down.
I do not think anyone (around here) has ever championed the V72 as any type of great movement. To the best of my knowledge, its only claim to fame is that it was the base movement in Rolex 62xx Daytonas, which makes it the go-to caliber for vintage Daytona frankens. And if visual/functional accuracy is your primary goal, short of a 72B or 727, the V72 is the only game in town, regardless of its less than stellar performance.
There was a watch repair store on South Brentwood, but I do not remember their name (I think it was near the Pasta House, but it has been awhile). I believe they did watch repairs as a sideline & since repair was not their main line (jewelry sales was), they may be cheaper.
Not sure if he is still there, but check with Lee Feldman in Clayton (I think he was on Clayton Rd). I think there was also a store in Clayton called Timekeeping or Timekeepers (something like that) that does watch repair.
Not sure of the model, but it looks like a 1940s Valjoux (not a 72). If the chrono bridge is gen (which it looks to be), this could be a rare (& valuable) Rolex chronograph.
Welcome to the (non-QC) world of reps. This is a classic example of why many of the seniors around here often recommend having your rep serviced upon receipt (as opposed to waiting for these 'WTF' moments). If the watch is still under warranty from the seller, check with the seller for instructions. If not, check with Ziggyzumba or a local (rep-friendly) watchmaker.
