  1. Welcome! Anyone who's into Quantum Theory is welcome here! At least we suspect you're welcome here, as we cannot know precisely if you really ARE here, or not.
  2. Hmmmmmmm, interesting. I think cyanoacrylate (superglue) is a great adhesive but it's brittle. So in environments where it's flexed (like messing with your bezel) it lets go. A flexible adhesive might be better. Silicon rubber? Hmmmmmmm.
  3. Better sit down... I invested in a gen vintage tritium pearl for the DRSD and glued it in... and it was lost. Man that hurts. Condolences please. So I bought Yuki's pearl and drilled out the yak-pee yellow, polished it up, and refilled it with "bone" (ivory) appliance paint. Presto... it doesn't glow and the ivory is a perfect match to my hands and indices. Cheap too.
  4. Claude Debussy, Trois Chansons performed by the Canadian Brass. Just spectacular!
  5. Precisely, it's a 6536/1 and the bezel fits a 6536 or 6538. Drat. Here are some photos from the seller's auction:
  6. Has anyone else noticed that Ebay is suddenly awash in unobtainable, premium condition "vintage Rolex bezels"? I bought one, for a 6538/5510 and it's absolutely magnificent. But it's a smidgen too big for my puny little 6536. It won't click onto my ring, but with enough bends I could probably make the bent spring hold it on there. Better just to resell it. The question is, where are all these suddenly coming from? I'd immediately guess they're VERY good aftermarkets, but there are two known reputable dealers selling them as gen. So what's the sudden source? FWIW mine is non-ferrous, and looks absolutely perfect. I haven't yet taken a gouge at it to see if it is, indeed, plated "white copper".
  7. Bad, BAD Submariner! Bad! Go to your room! No soup for you! How's that?
  8. Get him the Hunter's Cache Meats and Fish Gift Pack from Alaska Wild Berry Products. Guaranteed winner. Oh, and I wouldn't recommend a watch. Nope nope nope. http://www.alaskawildberryproducts.com/
  9. Roger that. I posted some photos over there of an all-original, single owner DRSD with the original band even, and they shot it down because it had the "wrong hands and bezel." Pfffffft. Let 'em stew in their own juices, sez me.
  10. I really like the photos. Good ol' Bob looks like a heck of an interesting guy. Better keep that beach shot away from Miss Understood though...
  11. Sheesh, I participated in this topic, and just now looked at my wrist... and my pearl is gone. Good thing we weren't discussing Male Enhancement products.
  12. As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a grave-side service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back-country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before for this homeless man. And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low my heart was full. As I was opening the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I ain't never seen nothin' like that before, and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."
  13. Hmmmmmmm. I got the vintage, faded, über expensive ones from awhile ago ... maybe those are different? Come to think of it, $25 for pathetic little plastic button is über expensive no matter what's in it. Gold dust? Sign me up!
  14. It fit perfectly in a gen 1665 insert, and that's the same size as a 1665 MBW insert. So you ought to be set. I found it to be a lot yellower than I anticipated, so I wound up drilling it out and refilling with ivory appliance paint to get the right color to match my dial.
  15. Dang, so that's the reason he rejected my offer of $500 out the door! Drat! Seriously, I've been in email contact with him for the last several days, I really have the notion the old boy is in way over his head here. I gave him all kinds of advice and I see at least some of it sunk in. He's not accepting Paypal anymore, and it appears he's setting up a private meet with the winner. Good. I hope he took the rest of my advice. What a great auction! It sure added some spice to a weekend in Alaska!
  16. Why, JoJo, because of the USA bracelet, on a Swiss 1958 watch?

Ah, remember the days of poorly lit garages, engine hoists and rag-tag tools? I did the same, putting a new engine in my sister's car after she ran it out of oil, but my "shop" was the street in front of her house. In winter. I wonder if that's why we like to tinker with watches? Same concept, smaller shop required. And cheaper parts! Give 'er a tuneup and new tires, and see what she'll do...
  18. This here is exactly why I like RWG so much.
  19. Sleeepy ... you're getting sleepy ... soooo sleepy ... you want to buy Nanuq's expensive gen crystal ... sleeeeeeeeepy ... so sleepy ........
  20. Good luck! He mentioned in his notes that it's a 5510. I would have sworn it's a 6538.
