  1. Every time you post a picture of your Ubiflake it makes my heart stop, and I wind up jamming an epi-pen into my thigh to get it going again. *gasp gasp* I think reps hold our attention from pride of ownership. It's like buying a 4WD versus building one. One is part of your soul, the other is just a truck. One sings to you, the other is an appliance.
  2. That's about what I did in Okla-stinkin-homa, I left it in the sun in a car on 100+ degree days for 8 or 10 hours at a stretch, with the entire watch intact. I'd pick it up later and it was so hot I couldn't hold it in my bare hands. Presto changeo, baked dial!
  3. Picking up where I left off (I did say I have the attention span of a gnat) tell me about that lovely DRSD in front of the pressure tester? Modded MBW case, vintage crown, NDT dial? I'm starting to think about taking my antique MBW to that level now.
  4. I think he left her at home ... gotta wait for some snow to melt before we can be sure.
  5. It would take 10,000 of OUR posts to say thanks enough for all you do here, ma Brudda from Anudda Mudda. Hats off to Lani!
  6. My MBW from 13 years ago has a functional HE valve. Another way to identify a vintage MBW is to see if the case side opposite the crown slopes in toward the top. A gen 1665 case is vertical but a gen 1680 case is sloped. Apparently the early MBWs were modeled, sorta, after the 1680.
  7. Yeah baby! And from the searing heat and pressure found in those scalding depths we will forge a new diver watch ... the Laniriffic 1000. What do you think, guys? Kinda the catchy name, eh?
  8. Is the vintage 300 supposed to have numbers reverse printed on a clear bezel insert? Lordy Lordy Lordy, someone tell me yes. Even if you have to lie... that is THE coolest part of a good vintage diver. Besides a big lurid domed crystal, mind you.
  9. Ah, well said JJ69. It occurred to me that by saying to "get your checkbooks ready" I was endorsing this site. Let me make it very clear that I am NOT endorsing any site. RWG exists specifically to help protect against scammers and we know nothing about this site. And your points are well made. What I should have said originally was "Whoa, check out the Doxa reps!" As soon as these things become available, perhaps we can persuade Lani to review one?
  10. Bear in mind those may very well be photos of gens. I'd sure love to see some of these reps in person!
  11. Gentlemen, grab your checkbooks. This looks verrrrry promising. Clicky clicky
  12. Woo hoo, how fast can YOU swim? Here he is from another angle...
  13. ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT *** ALERT The Jolly Olde Elf has popped up on radar and he's on his way! He's busy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs and he's making good progress. Get ready folks, he's coming! Track his prgress here: Santa NORAD
  14. Nothing like a quick dip in the morning to get you squeaky clean for the day!
  15. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.
  16. What he said. Nice reply, Freddy. There have been recent posts like this, with photos showing the side of the MBW/K case and the crown protruding below the centerline of the case. A problem as significant as that just cannot be overcome. Do a LOT of reading and get familiar with how the piece is "supposed" to look... there will be many iterations of gens. Then acquire the parts to build what you've assembled in your mind. You'll run into specific hurdles, and each of those has been discussed at length here. Some parts work, others don't. Some fit, but don't look right. Others are correct and look strange, until you find a photo of a gen that's exactly like the "strange" part you found. About the only rule of thumb with vintage Rolex is, there were almost no rules.
  17. Let's wait for Ziggy to chime in on this one. I had a broken v72C movement and he looked long and hard for the right wheel, ultimately finding one that ticks over wrong, but it was the best solution for an otherwise unsolvable problem. He was able to explain in detail why he chose that exact part. I bet this is not too hard for him to explain either.
  18. Yep, the MBW case is a waste of time, it's far too thick. You need the Yuki case and a working 1030 movement. Get ready to spend big on this project.
  19. A battle hardened SpecOps friend sent this to me. Words cannot express what this picture says. "We truly take a lot for granted. Forget the football 'heroes' and movie 'stars'. Pass this on so that all may know the price of freedom. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and a Soldier. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom."
  20. Does it do doppio, or just single espresso shots?
  21. Two big votes for my Brudah from Anuda Mudda, and the inimitable Omni, international Man of Mystery, a true Force of Nature. A finer pair of lads we've never seen. Big thumbs up!
  22. Outdoors... -12F and 100mph winds, a touch chilly, and it scoured the snow off the roof of my shed. Here's a clear sky view after the wind, alpenglow on the hill across the valley. Now we have our snow back again, about 3 feet in the yard. Here's out the front window, Mt. McKinley and Mt. Foraker at 10:00 at night, before the snow fell. They're about 200 miles away.
  23. For aging hands, I always start with the thumb, and I find an axe works great for getting that "aged" look.
  24. WAHOOOOO!!! 3 feet of snow the last 36 hours, and -18F The weather outside is... Frightful? No, delightful! Bring it on!
