Met a real watch expert last night..................Not!
tabularasa415 replied to browngo1's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't that same story continue with their watchmaker taking the back off of it and checking it out before the owner has time to say, "What the heck are you doing?" and is surprised/delighted to find a 1570 beating away inside? -
R, Excellent work. I have to agree with you on the clone 2892's. I bought a rep Omega AT from Joshua that was sold to me as "Swiss ETA 2892-2" and was actually a clone. (Of course, why am I not surprised when the watch was $268+shipping?) After having it for a few weeks it stopped running while in my watch box. It would wind manually, but obviously something was off. Well, $30-something worth of ETA parts and it's running well, but there's obviously some flaws in them somewhere. --Jer

Ummm... I'd save your looking goof comments until you see him in person. I took care of both Sly and Arnold during the last Arnold Classic here in town and I have to say 1.) who'd have thought I'm taller than Arnold even when he's wearing cowboy boots and 2.) if Sly has anymore plastic surgery, if he blinks fast enough he'll be able to fly away. Oh, and Sly is a douche who wore his sunglasses all night I. The restaurant, cursed like a sailor (which I do to, but you'd think he'd try to be a little classy), and also used the word "[censored]" or "fag" countless times. Really not cool in my book. Arnold was fine, and his kids were very chill. Of course their man-nanny (in Hollywood they call them a "handler") dealt with them more than dad. Gotta say, that night made me a permanent NOT-fan of Stalone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting vintage piece with mysterious button

You depress that button to adjust the time. The crown on this watch does not pull out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I had the opposite a couple of weeks ago. I was out and about and stopped at our bakery shoppe and a fellow eyes my rep omega AT and said, "Oh, does that have the coaxial movement?". I nearly [censored] my pants. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
It's all about resale... GMT IIC (and a better-looking watch IMHO)

I was going to ask if the owner let his child learn how to color within the lines starting on this dial....

What did I buy for $25.00 at the pawn shop today?
tabularasa415 replied to FloridaSam's topic in The Rolex Area
If it were mine, I'd scrap the watch head for parts and sell 'em off. I'd buy a modern TT watch head and mod it. I'd send the bracelet off to have it reworked (get rid of the stretch). I'd also try to pick up a gen clasp. THEN, you'd have one kickass Franken.... Just my .02. (Can you tell I'm just itching for a new build?) -

That had to be one HELL of an expensive rep in its prime.... good show, buddy! I'll have to look more closely at all of the knockoffs next time I'm at the pawn shop. -

I've done a lot of research into gen vs. rep clasps, and the wear of this one is throwing me off. On one hand, the engraving in 93153 and V1X1 look too good to be rep, but then Rolex itself looks off... I think that may be a reeeaaaalllly good rep bracelet. -

The ETA Swiss case set with a SA3135: Wonderful :)
tabularasa415 replied to chefcook's topic in The Rolex Area
Agreed on noob endlinks... It's ana amazing build. I would love to compare side-by-side with my TW best sub. -
The only gen watches I buy are Rolex, Tudor and Omega (vintage -- before they were sucked into the vortex of mediocrity). A.) I value the in house movements from a horological perspective and B.) I don't think I'd lose any (if so, then little) money I've invested into them. Now, for the rest... I think the reps are the best bargains out there ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
