  1. Sounds like a guy on TRF and VRF a few years ago. Steve Mulholland. He sold a lot of watches over the years, then got into financial trouble and scammed a bunch of folks out of a whole lot of money. Not a rep scam, but a scam right along. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. WOW!! This thread has more activity than most lately. JollyRoger, it sounds like you have and interesting life and you could be a asset to our community. Your interests are similar to most here AFA watches.
  3. I’m sorry if you think we are ganging up on you. However both Legend and I are moderators and we weighed in (at least I did) because you posted a WTB in a discussion forum. Of all the forums, I feel that we are the most “ noob friendly”and I believe that you will find that the vast majority of members here are very helpful and want to help new members have a positive experience. Having said that anyone can have a bad day. Sometimes we get the feeling that what we are doing to help is not appreciated, and we get a little short. Hopefully, going forward you will have a positive experience here
  4. @Legend , so true!! They don’t read the rules, break the rules then get their parties in a wad when they get called out.
  5. Nothing wrong with the 200. This is basically the entry level Doxa dive watch.ETA 2824 nice dial, hands and the new version of the old beads of rice bracelet. Not quite the historic “cachet” of the 300’s but never the less, still a very nice watch. there have been other earlier versions of the 200, back during the Syncron and Aubrey eras, back in the day. I believe that at one time it was offered in a quartz version.
  6. That’s really interesting. Funny that Vargas was involved with this project.for several years I was very involved with the Doxa forum on WatchUseek.at that time Vargas was the USA guy for Doxa. I found him to be a pompous ass who reveled in loudly letting everyone know about his huge collection of every valuable dive watch known to man, his illustrious Military career and all his connections to people in power. He and I got into a pretty heated argument over my old pre 300 Doxa.he claimed it was a fake, because he had never seen one and his claim was Doxa’s first entry into the dive watch business was the 300. After listening to him ad nauseum n the forum, I sent the watch to Doxa and it was authenticated by them. Later, the folks at Doxa finally got enough of him and terminated their relationship with him. I heard that he wanted Doxa to give him the first watch of every model they introduced in the USA! This is really interesting about the BlackLung. So my question is were any Black Lungs made by Doxa in Switzerland, are we’re all of them just upgraded 300’s with a Black Lung decal? Also was this an official Doxa / US Divers project to promote Doxa watches, or was this something Vargas cooked up? Would have been easy to get 300’s with the Ft.bezel, as the watches coming to the US were Ft. rather than meters. Too bad most of Doxa’s records and information got trashed every time the company changed hands. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I would be very, very leery of any new or almost new genuine watch that didn’t have all the boxes, warranty cards, etc. so from my standpoint, I would immediately eliminate all that lack “papers”. Then I would really scrutinize the rest. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. I think this is a refinished dial, very skillfully done but not perfect. Another thing, the overall condition of the hands and dial look too “new” to me. I never had a 300, but I’ve had at least one of practically every model the 300T and everyone had a serial number, plus all of mine were obviously used as tool dive watches and had a helluva lot more dings and dents!! Definitely a Doxa, but I would bet that the case back is not original and the dial has been refinished. Like you said, who ships a 15K Watch by USPS Priority Mail. Definitely cannot get full insurance. This one definitely sends up a few red flags to me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Another thought, the seller says this was a “prototype” which is not true. The prototype 300 was not a BL, but a 300 professional (orange dial) the BL’s and regular Aqualungs were made especially for US Divers co. to sell in Dive shops. They were only available new in shops that sold US Divers equipment. Another factoid, off the topic a bit, guess what other now famous watch was being sold alongside the Doxas? The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Guess which was the more expensive? Did you guess Blancpain? You would be wrong!! The Doxa 300 was a little bit more expensive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. FYI : WTB posts only in the sales section and only VIP members and higher are allowed to post. Because you are new, I’m going to let this one stay open. Going forward please read the rules for buying and selling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Just got thus one. And this one coming back from a crystal replacement and age appropriate aging Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I just got this really nice PAM 382 from a great fellow member astonjenks. This one had a movement overhaul with the addition of an ETA mainspring. As you can see from the photos the watch had a lot of patina, with a fair amount of bluish buildup. Nothing wrong with that, I just wanted to bring it back a bit and let it re-patinize in my climate. I did a lot of reading about patina reversal, including the use of acetone, which in my estimation is very dangerous. The fumes are toxic, acetone is very, very flammable and it removes all paint!!Safer methods are readily available. This includes catsup, vinegar( which is a component of catsup) clear soda, baking soda and finally lemon juice. I chose lemon juice ( freshly squeezed from my backyard lemon tree) I read and article on a gen forum about using lemon juice, which recommended submerging the watch in lemon juice for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, take it out, rinse it off and if desired polish it with something like Cape Cod cloth. This according to the above mentioned website. I would not recommend using a Cape Cod on a PAM Bronzo, as the watch new is not polished, but matte finished. I don’t want mine to look like a shiny rose gold dress watch. As you can see from the photos, this method doesn’t restore the watch to a “ brand new, fresh out the box” look, but more like an early stage patina. Here are the photos, before and after. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk The “after” photo is somewhat misleading. It looks very pink however this is lighting, not actual color. Better photo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  13. Well I got one! One of my fellow mods had one he was willing to part with. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Pam 382 Bronzo. Coming across the pond from the UK. Serviced movement, ETA mainspring, waterproofed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Just wondering, I’m searching for a 382. Trying to find one M2M but thus far to no avail.so should I fail in my search and decide to buy new, what are my options ? I have read that the VS factory ver 2 is no longer produced. Is a version 3 out? Thanks for any info and help with my quest. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Time will tell if this movement holds up. It may be OK if you stick to the directions, or it may be a “time bomb” like a few others. Being a noob, I wonder if a modified yuki 3135 would work? Only problem with this one is it’s so expensive (668.00) plus the cost of the modified movement results in a really expensive rep with no gen parts such as dial, bezel/insert, crystal. 17. Thanks everyone. Matt has the watch and hopefully if anyone can sort out the crystal deal it would be him. Alan your builds are really, really nice. Nice probably being and understatement !! Nanug, if you remember years back I had an aqualung BP. That was sold to me by a watch shop here in the USA as a genuine. It had the thinner case like Alan’s Vietnam cases. Stupid me, I sold it mainly because most of the replicas had thicker cases and I thought the thinner case was incorrect. Boy was I wrong. . I never opened the back, but I would bet it had an AS movement. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. The only bright spot to this is since Swatch announced this several years ago, other manufacturers such as Sellita have somewhat filled the need. I’m seeing lots of small boutique watches in the 500-1500 dollar range with Seiko movements, so lack f ETA’s isn’t slowing them down at all.Remember economics abhors a vacuum. ETA has created this vacuum and others will fill it. The biggest problem as I see it will be the lack of parts rather than movements. It may end up forcing folks to replace a movement because parts aren’t available, however this is probably pretty far down the road. Matt, you have a good point, my how times have changed! If I had a crystal ball back in the 70’s, my safe would be stuffed with DRSD’s, Daytona’s and 1680 Red subs. All of which could be purchased at less than 500.00 each back then. Alas,I didn’t. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. I have a DSN LIP BP fifty fathoms. OK watch, however it’s what it is! Alan has built several amazing vintage BP’s using Vietnam cases and other more accurate components, however as he stated earlier, finding parts is getting harder and harder. I’m running into the same problem with my DSN. Crystal cracked, no longer water resistant. I’m finding it difficult to locate a replacement crystal, as DSN doesn’t have any spares to sell. Wondering if any folks out there have any ideas as to where I can find a replacement? Hopefully someone makes an acrylic that is a little better quality than the ones that came on the DSN FF. 20. These are great!! I have a DSN LIP Blancpain that I like. I know it’s pretty far off from the gen but really, how many folks have seen a gen in the flesh? I believe Bill Yao’s MKII cases were dimensionally pretty close to the original, as he purchased the rights and all the paperwork from the owner of the Tornak-Rayville name. However the watches are as scarce as hens teeth and sell almost immediately when they show up for sale. I would be interested in a group project if it is feasible. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. Guys, if you are posting, and you get an error message in a pop up box in the middle of your screen, before you repost and repost and repost, each time getting the same error message, go to the forum and check to see if your post actually got posted. This just happened to me. I posted a WTB on the straps bracelet forum. Got the error message, reposted, got the error message, reposted. Did this 5 times. I then gave up and went to the forum, sure enough there were5 identical posts by me!! Luckily, I can moderate and delete the redundant posts, but most can’t so it falls to the mods to clean up the extra posts. Also, I believe that this is a Tapatalk problem, as I saw a couple of multiple posts in one of the Rolex Forum sales forums. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Also wondering how 508 is doing. Hope that you are on the mend sir. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. I’m very much old school, so to me the faded insert that’s on the watch is by far the best. If this were a new watch, or one freshly back from a RSC with a new shiny service dial, new crystal and a polished case, I could see a new insert, but that’s not what you have here. A beautiful old watch that has aged gracefully. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Just saw some photos of the new LE Top Gun case is tan ceramic. Maybe a bit too big for me at almost 44mm, but what a nice looking watch. If you are at all in to militaria this would be a great watch if the rep manufacturers get around to repping it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
