  1. Was that distraction caused by seeing 2 frogs doing it under your own name?
  2. Thanks for the advice all, think the P+S will be the right way to go for now, going to have a look at the sony cybershot w150. Not the cheapest around, but a step up from the cheapies. Then look into the canon SLR down the track sometime. And also looks like I will have to renew my platinum subscription!
  3. Thanks for the replies so far guys, of course getting both would be the plan, but at this stage only one will be enough I hope. Toad, it isn't going to be used for business, so in that respect not goign to matter either way, but I would like to blow pictures up to say 8 by 10 inch to frame and maybe on the odd occassion be wanting to go up to 11 by 14. So the question would really be, what P+S would be good enough for this sized enlargement?
  4. Well, I have been here for almost 2 years now, but due to a lack of digital camera hardly ever post pics. I do have a camera on my phone, so have taken a quick shot of what I have collected over this time. Not a huge collection yet, but it is growing slowly. top left: the VC 31 day retrograding calendar. Nice dress watch, but don't have many occassions to wear it. Plus with all the bigger watches I have there, just not big enough these days. Up next is a Pam 113h from Davidsen, brilliant lume. The first Pam I got. Then we have a Pam 111h from TWP. Was a cheap one, and the crown guard was floppy from the get-go, and now the treads are stripped so not using a CG on it any more. Looks great on a bracelet. Next one is a custom Pam homage from Flav. Uses black lume on the numbers and indicies, although doesn't glow great as the black isn't the best lume color. Sterile Swiss movement, great crown and nice tight crown guard. Down the bottom: First up the UPO. Just got it, and it is a nice heavy watch. Been wanting to get this one for quite a while, mostly to see if it is what I am wanting as a gen. This seems to be the theme of what I buy these days, buying reps to find 'the one' that I want to blow the big bucks on. In the middle we have the rolex yachtmaster. Again, one I thought maybe it will be the one. Hardly ever gets any wrist time, I knew pretty much straight away it wasn't really me. But still wear it now and then. Lastly the first rep I ever bought. (Well, first here anyway. I got a fake tag in Fiji once, which I accidently left under a car when I was working on it and when I realized a day later it had gone.) Anyway, this is the BCE. My daily beater, almost 2 years old, still not serviced yet, and still keeps pretty good time. A7750, run the chrono's often, pretty much no problems with it. I mow lawns all day, and aside from having to give it a clean each night and it not looking in pristine condition, is still a really good time keeper. The last 3 were all from Andrew. Anyway, when I do finally get a good camera, I will do some better pics of them all.
  5. I bring this question to the forum, since we have a lot of photo buffs here. A few years ago, I wanted to get into professional photography, but just never got there, and even as a hobby photography has taken quite a back seat. I still don't even have a digital camera, although even 3 years ago I never wanted to go digital - I still have a medium format camera (broken) sitting at home. (Will have to get it fixed some time). But with everything going digital these days, it being cheaper, easier, I don't have easy access to a darkroom, I am ready to cave into getting a digital. What I would ideally like is the hasselblad H3DII-50 at 50 megapixels, but also at close on $40,000 I am just not that serious right now. After all that background, my basic question is this: do I look at a reasonably cheap compact digital, or go to a reasonable canon DSLR? My big thought on choosing the compact over the SLR is actually using it - I could slip a compact into a pocket and carry it around everywhere, whereas I am not likely to carry the SLR very often, and hence will not obviously get much use out of it. Of course, I would rather be using the SLR as a camera guy. I think I have answered my own question here really, the compact would be the better idea from the perspective of actually bing used, but am keen to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter. And to that end, any up to date suggestions on what to be looking at buying?
  6. One of the best reviews I have ever seen anywhere! Outdone yourself again! Congratulations. And great looking watch.
  7. Yes, I am all for it. Great idea, I would also say quite a big project with the extras that you are thinking of - when I saw the topic I thought it would just be 12 hi quality pics of our best reps, which I would be all for, but the ambition of this project with a real RWG theme to it would be fantastic.
  8. I heard he runs a chain of [censored] fighting arena's now
  9. Also do some more searching about the watch - there are a couple of versions, the one shown in the link up above is the first version, the newer one has the writing on the dial in the correct place...
  10. I have a VC retrograde calendar, and got that to see if it was what I would like to get as a gen. It gets very little wrist time, I think for two reasons - I am just into bigger watches, and I think I am just more into the tool watches, it looks great in pictures, and it does look real classy in person, but just didn't end up being me. That and the rollies, they just don't have any presence for me.
  11. I didn't think you would be the type to be looking - always saw you in a old convertible caddy in hot pink with all the bling on, waiting for the ladies to bring you your profits...
  12. So does this mean I could get banned for starting a topic titled 'I believe I am God, and am running for president of Cuba'?
  13. Would a real watch guy even have to ask the question?
  14. Would people please stop posting stuff on diamond bezels for the Breitlings, it is making me want to do something baaaad. (Like putting one on mine and becoming a pimp)
  15. Still another 10 days or 2 weeks after it is released in the US that it gets released down this way. First world nation? Rubbish! Bring on Bond at the movies before it is released on DVD!
  16. I like the dial on it, just the QOS that I don't really like. Get rid of that and I might consider one...
  17. My concern would be does it desolve enough to not cause engine problems or clog up the fuel filter within a week, things like that. And if the disolve, where does the water go that they have collected
  18. Hmmm, what happens when there is no longer space in the tank for fuel because it is full of mothballs though?
  19. My thought is if you are a movement freak, go for a zenith.
  20. I had a situation once where the book for the course was unavailable - the bookshop never ordered enough copies of it, and by the time enough came in we were 2/3rds through the course. Plus it was a new book that year so no chance of buying a second hand one. And it was around a $320 book. I ended up spending 4 hours in the library photocopying the only copy they had in there at the time, still cost me $80 (was a big book) to copy, but at least I had the text. Disclosure: I never infringed copyright....
  21. I agree, he should send it to me since I have a small seconds hommage it could go in I even have a swiss movement I could send back if really needed.
  22. That one is gold. See back in the old days, to keep things together you needed to screw them in. These days, not so much. Stickers work just as well now. Who'd have thought it? All those screws over the years used to build cabinets, put up doors, and everything else, were not really needed. Stickers would have done the trick, as long as they looked like screws. I am going to stop before I make myself look like an idiot.
  23. You've got a dirty mind Ken. I like it.
  24. There are people who sit on the board trying to get post counts up, then there are people out there too busy building amazing watches! Looks fantastic!
