I own a gen Oris Big Crown with acryl/plexiglass crystal. The 'miracle' solvent to repolish this type of crystal is Brasso copper shine. For tiny scratches toothpaste will also do the trick....
However, I think tiny scratches from normal use adds character to a vintage' rep, which by nature shouldn't look brand new....
Too bad I don't live in Dubai. This year I'm going to be 25 years old for the 12th time and would have been happy to have a drink, go to clubs and fool around with the girls over there, LOL. By the way, what is 'shisha'? Never too old to learn
Anyway, have a good time!
Thnx for the great writeup!
I recently bought the Asian version and it's good to see the flaws are not really bad - provided you don't know the gen.
One thing that does bother me is the mis-allignment of the '60' on the tachymeter-scale. It's alligned above the '2' instead of between '1' and '2'.
So how is the AR of the gen compared to both reps? I have the feeling the Asian doesn't have any at all. Does the gen have single AR and what color?
I recently discovered this brand too. They seem to have some nice looking watches in between the Tissot and Longines price range.
You may check this thread http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...hl=louis++erard
The 111i looks gen to me:
- right shape of 2, 3 and 6
- yellowish font
- L Swiss Made L not too close to the 6
- no recessed cannon pinion
- fat crown
- flush CG
- the extra 'hole' near the incablock shock protector
I love the strap!
Unfortunately my experience with a web AD was not a good one. The watch I've bought from them stopped working within 2 months. When I tried to contact them for repair they didn't answer my mails and didn't pick up the phone. Lucky for me I could send it to the brand manufacturer and they repaired it for free.
Here's a reference pic of the gen.
Visual differences when comparing pics:
- white instead of black day/date wheels. Probably also wrong fonts;
- subdials @ 6 and @12 should be more recessed. No white chapter rings. Font size way too big;
- both chrono seconds hands should be more black with just the ends white;
- wrong back and Top Gun sticker;
- bad alligned logo.
Unfortunately the collector's website is offline, so we can't check the diameter (gen = 46mm), AR, crystal and type of movement.
But all these flaws for this amount of money.... I guess we still have to wait for a more thruthful rep
As most of the reps with 'Lemania'-Seagull movement the subdial spacing is too wide. On the gen the 9 & 3 hour marks are luminous dots instead of 'III' and 'IX' cut by the subdials.
Nice 104! Thinking of ordering one myself
Slightly off topic... Found this pic on a gen forum.
Note the L Swiss Made L. I thought this was supposed to be a flaw on the older 104 reps.....
edit: the watch on this pic seems to be a PAM048 instead of a PAM104
This is a PAM0164, no PAM104
To me this doesn't look like a rep. The subdial is more sunken than on a rep. The 5 minutes marks are bigger and the 12 is not touching the rehaut.
Last week there was a thread about the new rep 164. You might take a look at that to be more confident.
But if I were you I would ask for the serial number and see if that's the same number as on the reps. Or you might check the number with the AD.
Good luck!
Wow, that looks awesome! I also think that 45mm will fit better on my wrist. A Big Pilot would be great looking, but not on my tiny wrist, hahaha.
I especially like the example dial with the seconds dial cutting the 8 and 10 dial.
What price are you looking for?
