  1. IMHO there is something about these watches from the 60s and 70s that is aestehtically much more appealing than contemporary watches.

  4. The infamous Micky big crown with signed pearl crown an silver indices. Very sought after.
  5. There are actually two ISO standards for watches. A water-resistance standard and a diver's watch standard. These are different. A watch that has a water resistance rating of 100m is NOT suitable for skin diving while a diver's watch rated at 100m is. So if your Seiko says "Diver's 100m" it is suitable for skin diving. Usually a contemporary diver's watch will have a depth rating of at least 200m however. Now saturation diving that's another story.
  6. Who in their right mind would dive without a computer these days?
  7. He is such an institution that it is though to make oneself aware that he is in an illegal business and a criminal in the eyes of a lot of people. Don't want to throw oil in the fire but he must be quite a thorn in the side of Rolex. Not so much because of volume but because of quality. Just thinking out loud....
  8. It is not down it seems, but gone. Does anybody know what is going on? I am a bit concerned, just a bit.
  9. I would encourage you to buy a strap for this watch because I can assure you that the bracelet especially the clasp will not look good after a very short time. Daily wear will soon scrape the PVD off. The question is if you really have to lash out 70 pounds for a Nato just to have the Pro Hunter logo on it. They can be had a fraction and in very good quality. You could try Maratac or gnomon for example.
  10. These are really nice. Just bought the MKII Keywest so my funds are limited. But there are plenty of them at chrono24 in excellent to mint condition at around 2000€. Thank you for bringing these up. Definitely on my list now.
  11. Wow. I understand why replicas land at pawn shops. Some are just very hard to tell if you do not have a gen to compare. But this....come on!! They won't survive very long with this kind of expertise.
  12. Happy open 9 day. I cannot take this watch off my wrist for more than a day. Guess I need a white dial one too.
  13. I still don' t get it how sales guys judge people by the clothes they are wearing. I know a couple of guys that have really made it, and they all dress very casual in their private lives. They have that self confidence that comes with a lot of money and don't need brands or expensive clothes to solidify their status. It is usually the guys in the middle of the food chain that are wearing the expensive brands to show off.
  14. The other day I had a meeting with two business partners. In my line of work people are traveling a lot also to China. So everyone has plenty of occasions where they can buy a rep. Both guys were sporting a Portuguese Chrono. At one point during a casual conversation I said to one of the guys: "It's a nice Portuguese you have there." He looked at me in confusion. He did not know what a Portuguese is. No way someone buys a watch of this caliber and don't know its name. The other guy sporting the same watch quickly chimed in and said: "Yes, yes, IWC." :-) I looked closer and both watches to my disbelief had a quartz movement with a jumping seconds hand. Of course I never said a word and left in at that. Now I wonder: How many times have I been silently called out with the other guy knowing and never saying anything about a watch being a rep.
  15. Correct: https://de.pinterest.com/pin/531706299726212020/ On another note: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2156794/How-did-Vladimir-Putin-afford-450-000-watch-collection-worth-times-annual-salary.html Interesting, didn't know all that. English subtitles provided.
  16. Anonimo from G-Factory, sorry for the wrong date.
  17. Almost impossible to catch the beauty of that gilt dial with my iPhone.
  18. I don't know. A little too flashy and over the top for me. Especially for a PAM.
  19. I am sure the seller acts in good faith. These watches pop up at reputed sellers again and again. A few month ago I saw a blatant copy of a Breitling Navitimer offered by a watch house in the with a long tradition in the UK. It was very obvious as the serial stated a gold watch and it was actually the SS model, almost a canal street quality rep. With so many watch models available, and so many things to look for I guess the watch traders are not anywhere near the expertise of these forums. I can only imagine the fuzz and anger a buyer has when he finally finds out if he sends the watch to Rolex for servicing....
  20. V6 with the new PA bezel assembly
  21. I bought this a few months ago, and tested all my watches with it. Before I went on vacation this week I tested all the watches that accompany me again, gens and reps. Gives me peace of mind. As long as you do not plan on taking the watches to a dive this is good enough. If you have a large watch collection it is absolutely worth spending the money. http://www.ebay.de/itm/High-Quality-Watch-Waterproof-Tester-Meter-Tool-6Atm-Water-Resistance-Of-Case-W-/331840149972?hash=item4d4336d9d4 Of course things that worked yesterday can still fail tomorrow. Nothing is 100% safe. And of course I only take watches in the water that are waterproof by design (screw-down crown, decently pressed crystal gasket etc.).
