Unknown ETA 2824 Movement - More info gathered.

Sounds like the winding stems are too short on both watches.

Borel sells the tube you are looking for although it is in a generic crown/tube set, still probably cheaper than cousins when you consider shipping charges to US. Search on Borels site, "Rolex crowns" The link didn't seem to work in the test mode, if it doesn't just copy and paste to browser, should take you to the page you need. http://www.julesborel.com/watchmovements.htm

Why are datewheels so difficult to get right?
dachshund replied to aeroflott's topic in General Discussion
Why should they have to make perfect date wheels, we buy all they can make with bad date wheels. -
I have never owned a quartz that has been close to 10 seconds off per month, most have been some where around 3-4 seconds per month, others 1-2 seconds per month.

Should be no different than any other Pam, razor blade between bezel and case, work around a little at a time, should come off. Good luck.

KICK ASS WATCH for sure!!! -
Does anyone know if and where the Sellita movements can be purchased?
-
Eunomians Step one is not necessary to remove the date wheel, simply depress the spring you show, lift datewheel and slide it out from under the plate, reverse the procedure to install the new wheel.

I have several that I would have to think long and hard before sell, but I have a few that just simply won't be going anywhere. 1. 007 From closed factory 2. Black Seamaster from closed factory 3. Electric Blue Seamaster from closed factory 4. Old Seamaster Professional Blue (not closed factory, but the good one) 5. Pam 029 with 2893 6. pam 060 with 2893 7. Pam 063 (No date, and wrong size, still a beautiful watch) 8. Pam 036 (Old original) 9. Pam 111 10. A fanticy IWC Mark XV (Not accurate to the genuine at all, but one of my favoties)

crown pulled out but the watch still runs
dachshund replied to pubus's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
pubus the 6497 is not a hacking movement, your movement is NOT broken. -
Vaccum Not trying to argue, just curious, the ad plainly states that the hands are for an ETA 2893-2, what is there about the hands that make them incorrect for the 2893-2?

piece of drill bit stuck in lughole of my 1680
dachshund replied to lionsandtigers's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Use a drill press with a rotary diamond covered bit, the kind you would use in a dremel tool. Make sure the bit has the diamond coating on the end of the bit as well, not just the sides. Line it up very carefully and go slowly with the grinding, it may take a couple of bits to wear thru the existing broken bit, but with patience, the diamond bit will grind the broken bit out. -
I, like Bill, am a bit older than probably most here and have experienced a lot of life. These things happen, we may not enjoy the thrashings, but as a rule, it is normally better for everyone once the smoke clears. We exist in a fantisy like world here on RWG, TRC, and RWI, but the same things happen in everyday business. Business decisions are made daily, right or wrong, that cause grief to someone, people are fired, contracts are lost, a supplier changes hands and things run amuck, changes are constant and are necessary for the good of the many. I don't post a lot, but I'm on one the two boards off and on most of the day (RWG, TRC) not because I need another watch, but because wheather I'm active in posting or not, I still feel like I am amoung friends. I don't care for the disarray anymore than the next fellow, but it must be delt with as quickly as possible then put behind us so that we can go forward with our hobby and enjoy the board again. Gentelmean and ladies, don't let it get you down, as the old saying goes, time heals all, we'll emerge a stronger more bonded community.

Servicing movements - Why? What's the importance?
dachshund replied to milwaukee's topic in Movement Q&A
Servicing a movment depends on several factors, if its a watch that you really like and it has an extremely expensive movement, by all means have it serviced. Even with that type of movement I wouldn't have it serviced until it showed some reason to have it serviced. In a complete service all parts are supposed to be disassembled, cleaned, oiled and the main spring replaced, even if a couple of other parts have to be replaced, what do you add to the cost of service $25, $35, $50. Even if a fairly expense movement has to be replaced, barring your elite brands, which by the way, most of our reps do not have, you still can't compare that to the cost of replacing a $4000, and up engine in a car. For the typical ETA rep (2824, 2836), a new movement can be purchased at todays prices for $75- $90, you can find NEW doner movements on ebay for as little as $35-$40, so why would one even consider servicing a rep with 2824/2836 when there are no signs indicating a service is needed. -
How To Remove The Crown Tube From Panerai Case
dachshund replied to V's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
A small sized ezout should remove the crown tube, it will booger the inside of the tube but I can't see why you would want to use the same tube if it needed to be removed in the first place.
