  1. I loctite mine. But you have to cut a new stem to the correct length. I grind the end into a point on a stone first
  2. My wife just received a ~30 year old diamond-bezel Concord watch from a relative. Based on the pics below, what model might this be? Also, I see that the case and bracelet is tarnished. Is this normal? Looks to me that's it was gold plated. Does gold plating tarnish?? Tia
  3. Yesterday, I managed to secure issue#2 of The Rolex Magazine as well as a 2013-14 catalogue. I almost got the new hardcover DSSD James Cameron promo book, but there was only 1 in the store. Couple of neat tidbits I did not know until today. Apparently very few have the "know-how" to open up a Rolex case . Caseback is torqued to 5 nm. I did not know that: I thought the history of Churchills DJ was kinda neat. He requested the Caseback to have his coat of arms engraved onto it: There's an official Rolex school in PA? Next time I take the family to Hershey Park, I will make a point to drop by: If anyone needs to create some vector artwork for a DWO, there's a full page close up of the fonts.. This concludes another episode of useless Rolex facts.
  4. Walked into an AD today, while on holiday, to look at the new (and hideous) DSSD. They did not yet have one on display. But I did manage to try on the new SD4000c. It was sporting a 3.0mm crystal rather than the 2mm that is on the subC's. From this angle, the raised crystal almost looks like a noob or BP! Also, the lugs, while thinner, do not look symmetric. Could just be the angle, but the left looks thicker than the right: Also picked up some free catalogues. Woo hoo!
  5. I might have a phong case for sale soon. It's by far the best 5514 case next to gen after some case reworking.
  6. Startime no longer carries the SS 3135 lug hole cases. But I think it accepted a 27.3mm dial
  7. I hate it. Possible collector value as seaweed green is apparently the new red, but I'd never wear this horrid watch. But then again I'm not a fan of the original DSSD either. Gradient? Really?
  8. You could always heat the watch by placing it beside a light bulb or using your hotel hair dryer. Also, if you are staying in a villa and your unit has a Refrigerator (frost-free), you can place it in there overnight and it will "de humidify". But more efficient if you can get the Caseback open. If you can find rice or ideally, silica gel packs, you can alternate all of the above methods.
  9. I'm fairly certain that's a Mingh case
  10. Upon closer inspection, I think you're good. Here is my gen 666 (that I recently sold):
  11. Is it not fitting because it's too wide or too thick? If the latter, then you lay the entire insert flat on top of the paper
  12. You're trying to put a TC insert onto a BP SD? Or a gen 16600/16660 insert onto the BP bezel? Gen 16600 inserts should be 36.65mm OD.
  13. You could always bend the spring if its not reaching the teeth. But are you sure you snapped the bezel on all the way? Also, when installing the bezel, put it on an angle starting at the click spring so it doesnt get "mashed".
  14. Aside from the OGEV font thinness, that is a great rep out of the box. I actually prefer the rep SELs over the gen..lol. Bezel teeth on the rep could be cut a tad lower. rehaut ring could be a touch lower as well. Cant do much about the crown height, but CG's look excellent. Really, I think all the rep needs is an insert replacement. Good job on the review
  15. If that watch was on your bucket list of grails, then yes, go for it. If it wasn't, move along. Personally, not a fan of PVD/DLC watches.
  16. Its a masking technique that's used, for example, in water colour painting.
  17. You could "paint" the text with moderately thinned contact cement, then spray with caliper paint. Then peel off the contact cement once dry.
  18. Fine choices R. Piston refill on the fountain is a nice feature. Glad it worked out.
  19. Rule of thumb: always use superdomes whenever possible.
  20. You could do that... might be safer. Plus you can align the triangle perfectly at 12. If you put the insert on the bezel first, its very easy to push too hard on the middle of the insert. It's very easy to press too hard and basically bend the insert (usually at the triangle) and this will result in a flattened insert where the outer diameter is now too large.. this is not a good situation. So make sure you are applying pressure only on the outer portion of the insert. After I work around the perimeter, you can just snap the remaining part in by pressing the outer edge on a wooden table or something similar.
