No votes for the DeWitt? Talk about an eye catcher!
-
I want to buy another rep. My collection thus far contains many Rolex subs/GMT/YM/SD along with a cartier Roadster, HBB, FM, Aquaracer, UBE, I have my eye on the following as my next purchase: Grahram Chronofighter Porsche 6 DeWitt Academy "ULTIMATE" Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono Each one is a big purchase and I am leaning towards the DeWitt since its the most costly and extravagant looking piece. However which do you think I should go for? Which is the better rep?

Gen Rolex datejust with jubilee bracelet 18k/SS

I paid 3600 and no tax. In the US the price was 5200 plus say 6% sales tax so thats around 5500 total. I saved nearly 2000 bucks. Whats interesting is that in the US at that time you could not find a Rolex dealer that discounted the price. It was $5200 in NY, NJ, CT, Vegas, Chicago etc etc. I went to China for two weeks in 2000 on business and finished up in HK. never thought I would end up buying a Rolex but when I saw the price I could not resist. I went again to HK in 2003 and looked for 2 days all around the "Times Square" of the city where I found one watch store after another. I had 1000 cash to spend on a watch and I ended up getting a rado ceramic quartz which retail was around $1600. If I had to do it all over again I would have looked at the Subs and bought one if the price was right. At the time my interest was in "dress" watches and not sport watches and this is why I never even bothered to look. -
Gen Rolex datejust with jubilee bracelet 18k/SS

Thats my watch! However mine was bought in 2000 so it has the old style case (thinner lugs) and the non safety SS clasp. I looked on ebay and I dont see any older TT datejusts with a bid! Also I doubt if any DJ from 2000 would be in the condition mine is in. Not a nick, dent...its just like new. Never polished...I just run it under the faucet and wipe dry after wearing. and I only wear on very special occasions. Also have the box, all paperwork, original reciept and even the polishing cloth it came with. I remember when I bought this in HK in 2000 this same watch was selling for 5200 plus tax all over the US...did not matter where you went it was the same price. Anyone want to guess what I paid for it at the most well known jeweler in HK? -
Can someone tell me what is so bad about the 1665 MBW bracelet? I am looking at the pictures above and I fail to see any difference in that vs. the rep bracelet that came with my TTK MBW GWSD. My bracelet is hollow mid link with excellent fit and finish and the end links look just like the above. So whats the difference?

I bought in 2000 a Rolex two tone datejust on a jubilee bracelet while on a trip to Hong Kong. I very very rarely wear this watch and its in new condition with only the very slightest hairline scratches ...just a few and only on the clasp and barely noticable..the watch really is like new. So new that the green rolex sticker is still on the back and even that is in new condition. (perfect) It has a gold dial with Roman numerals and a non double locking clasp. I am not interested in selling but was wondering what a watch like this is worth. I know a new 2008 DJ like mine is now in the $8000 range. I had it serviced by Rolex a few years ago and it tells pefect time. Any Rolex experts venture a guess as to what its worth?

If I take the bezel OFF my MBW z series the WM insert snaps in fully recessed and TIGHT. HOWEVER....once you put the bezel with insert back ON the case the insert is forced out from the bezel and is now floating. SO the conclusion is that the bezel will take a WM insert with no problem BUT the watch case does not accept it. You need to grind down the back of the insert a lot to keep it recessed while ON the watch case.

Whats a reasonably sized rep collection?
perry563 replied to DemonSlayer's topic in General Discussion
I began collecting ONLY gens and mostly all "dress" watches. These would include an Omega seamaster (mid sized), Rolex DJTT, Montblank Meisterstuck, 1925 14k Waltham, 1939 Elgin doctors watch, 1939 14k Gruen curvex, 1955 Whittenaur asymetrical, 1950 Bulova, Rado ceramic, Movado Museum, Cartier tank, Omega Deville 14K, Concord 18k ultrathin, Tissot dual time Zone Heritage, Rotary Reverso, Ventrua/BMW LCD, Exact copy of a ROLEX Prince from 1930 with quartz movement.....all in perfect/near perfect condition. THEN I found these remarkable reps and since that time I have not bought a gen. I now have about 20 reps along with around 20 gens....so thats 40 or more watches. Would I like to get rid of some of these....at times yes....There are say 8 watches that I could see myself parting with BUT that still leaves me with areound 30. Too many...maybe but collecting watches is what I do as my hobby. Anyone in the market to buy a watch??? LOL -
How was the pearl that came with that insert?
-
I thought the MBW accept gen parts? I would think a 60 buck aftermarket insert would be made the same size as the gen.........so .....why did you need to grind down the bezel to make it fit? I remember when one of the rep site board members worked with one of the trusted dealers to make a BOND sub. (maybe 2 years ago) After months of waiting the results were disappointing but I bought the watch anyway. It had a thin case similar to a datejust and a smallish datejust like crown. This watch above is so fantastic ...why would it be so difficult to mimic? We have the pictures ...lets get a dealer to make this exact watch! I would buy T W O in an instant. I know there is disagreement as to what exactly the BOND sub was but there is no doubt that Sean Connery wore a sub with a big Brevet crown and from all that I have read it is generally agreed that the watch also had a thick case (as the one does above). The coin edge bezel is also a must as would be the large dome crystal.

I want that watch! If you decide to start making them to sell please give me a shout. You will have your first customer. Whats the base watch that you used?

When it comes to chronos just dont do it. When your going to shower take off your watch...any watch gen or rep. The steam, soap and hot water will not do your watch well over time. In terms of swimming I personally wont wear any watch to the beach. The sand and salt water are just not a good idea. You will end up with a scratched up watch.....now do you really want to scratch up such a nice piece? When it comes to a pool I have no problems jumping in with my non chronos as long as I have tested in advance. Get your nice watch full of water and its ruined.

For whatever reason Cartier reps in general are not popular. The preference on these boards are sportwatches. Cartier is more of a dress watch. I think that is the main reason. Its a great watch. One of the best I have in my 20 or so watch collection.
-
The Britlings are great watches but really not that good for a business meeting .......more a sport or casual watch. The Cartier Roadster can be worn with a suit or jeans drinking beer at a pub or at a conference table or formal dinner. It really is an overlooked super rep. Outstanding quality. The only thing I will say is that I found it difficult to size the bracelet. I would mention it to the dealer before buying to ensure the one you get is OK. In any case it may be a god idea just to take it to a local watch shop to have it resized so you dont end up scratching the watch in the process.

If you want a classy watch that is highly well built and would never in a million years be called out the latest Cartier Roadster...white dial (actually its a silver white color) with Roman numerals is hard to beat. I bought one from Joshua and the fit and finish is just top notch...a SUPER super rep. Its got that nice balance between sport and dress so it can be worn with jeans or a suit. Buy it ....you wont regret it.

Looks like a TW best SD. Very well put together watch but highly inaccurate. Its basically a Sub case without the date mag and with an extra thick back to make the overall demensions correct. Not to make you feel bad but the new super SD blows the TW best away in terms of looking like a gen SD.

I have a MBW 1680 and 1665GW both from TTK. I bought these about a year ago. Both have hollow link braclets with what I believe are correct divers extensions for these watches. (non locking) I think the bracelet is one of the strong parts of the watch...very much gen look and feel. Its the MBW modern subs that come with the crappy solid mid link bracelets. There is something about THAT watch pictured above that does not look correct. CG are really thick..much more so than mine.

Its around 350 US dollars. Add WU charges and you right around 375-400.

Could someone tell me why a rep YM with an Asian movement is selling for 400 bucks? What makes this watch so diffrent? The case is a little thinner? thats it? How does it stack up against the others on the market? Is it that much better?
-
What are we waiting for?????...lets contact Paul and call him out. I want and need an explanation with this one. I almost bought this watch and I think God that I changed my mind and went for a Roadster.

I am constantly amazed with all the excellent info on this web site that people still ignore the known 100% trusted dealers and instead buy from scam sites. Even if you cant say they are SCAM they certainly are not trusted. Will you pay more..sure...but the watches are still great bargains and your backed by the dealers reputation. I have about rep 20 watches and they all work fine and tell time accuratly. I have bought them from Josh, Andrew, TTK, Angus and Narkia. Of the 20 or so maybe 4 arrived with a defect and in all cases I returned the watch to China and got an excellent replacement without issue. With rep watches we are buying a black market product so you really need to know the source and rely on that sources quality. Otherwise you will get nothing but empty promises and lies.
