  1. I was speaking with one of the VERY well known modders and he told me that ALL after market vintage pearls are crap. The only way to go is to locate a GEN pearl. The question is where does one find a GEN Rolex pearl for a vintage watch and how can anyone be sure its a gen before buying it?
  2. I have a very important question since I am looking to pick one of these babies up real soon......... I notice on Angus's site he is offering TWO tourbillons ....one is the above watch and the other which is a bit more expensive is a Jaeger LaCoultre tourbillon. Can anyone suggest to me which of the two is the better rep???????? I know one has a power reserve and Angus told me this is why is costs more. BUT other than that which one of the two is the more convincing looking rep? Which is better constructed etc.
  3. I would agree to buy this watch from Angus. He has the latest upgraded version with the close to gen thick bezel. No matter what anyone tells you its a fantastic piece. Perfect? No but fit and finish is wonderful and the slight differences no one will ever be able to spot. Not many out there are SD experts! Also buy the ETA version so you have something thats a reliable timepiece.
  4. Whats the current story with the wobbly lever mechanism that was written about when this watch first cam out? Is this still a problem or have the factories fixed it?
  5. BK: You produce works of art with attention to detail This is something that is greatly missing from most all rep watches. I respectfully submit that only swiss ETA 2836 should reside within such masterpieces.
  6. Everytime I find what I think is THE ultimate watch it ultimatly disappoints! If I could point to one watch from each of my collections...gens and reps I would say my 1939 Gruen Curvex in 14K gold is my fav while in terms of reps my MBW 1665 GWSD is the most satisfing. I do have to say though that my latest buy a DeWitt Acedamia chrono is an outstanding piece.
  7. Do all these Grahams have the same loose lever issue? Is there a dealer that will sell me one that does not have this issue?
  8. The new MBW has a excellent hollow link bracelet and great fit and finish along with deep rehaut and a vastly improved dial. Its flaws are thick CG and thin rehaut thickness. The BK mariner has all the bells and whistles and only falls short in terms of rehaut depth by a mm or so. Both are excellent watches. The extra care taken by BK to personally mod and test his watches give them the upper hand. Buy a BK mariner and you get a fully modded swiss eta powered sub for 360 bucks...you cant go wrong.
  9. BK and eurotimz guarentee that the watches they sell carry brand new swiss eta movements.
  10. Datejusts are lousey reps. Fit and finish is not that great. Explorer is a nice watch but an obscure Rolex to all but the Rolex fans. Forget the Daytona's with all the movement issues. I say go with either a BK mariner....or the very latest SSD.
  11. WELL...if you can find out for sure and also get a lead as to where to buy one we are all set!
  12. Invest in a MBW. The case and bracelet fit and finish are OUTSTANDING. I bought a MBW GWSD from TTK a few years ago and its the prize of my 20 plus rep collection. I bought a CLARKE superdome for 60 bucks and it fit perfectly. The watch I bought had hollow center links, the correct caseback, eta movement etc...top of the line.
  13. Sound from the BOSE system is very good. Its not what you would get from a 7 speaker surround but on the other hand you dont have all that clutter. Bose uses six sigma to determine what customers WANT in a sound system. (of course realizing only a very small percentage want super high fidelity). From this analysis it was determined that the vast majority of potential customers want something easy to set up, no wires running everywhere and good crisp sound. I fully agree that its not comparable to the high end type systems in terms of sound quality but it provides me with great sound in a neat compact great looking package.
  14. Not to brag but I have 20 reps and around 20 vintage gens. All work like a charm so far. Knock on wood! I have to say that I own a Sharp 46 inch aquos 1080p LCD and the blacks are VERY black...best I have ever seen in any set plasma or LCD. Picture quality overall is very good..sharp and clear. I cannot find a fault. For sound I have it hooked up to a BOSE 321 GS Type II. Not the greatest sound in the world BUT a very compact, neat sound system that produces very good sound quality. My other set is a 42 inch Dell plasma which is also very good. However blacks if one looks closely tend to be on the green side. Picture quality overall is again very good. For sound I have a Denon 101 sound system (Denon's version of the 321 GS). Again a larger system would have better sound but it is very good, compact system. I also am working on a new sound system for the Sharp aquos.....I have a pair of Infinity Beta tower speakers, a Infinity 4000 center speaker and a Mirage S10 subwoofer. I have this hooked up to a new sony 110 watt reciever. Hope to get the TV attached to this system soon! What do you guys think???
  15. Double check the hand on that right side dial. Tap the case side and see if it does not move ever so slightly. It looked fine to me also until I wore it a while. I think the band is fantastic. I was careful not to cut too much off and make it too tight on my wrist. Clasp needs some extra effort to close but I can live with that. The big issue with this watch I think aside from that dial hand is the inability to remove the case back for servise. I was told that only the factory has the special tool to remove the back. So if and when it requires serive you would need to send the watch back to China to have it opened. I loved the look too much so I bought it anyway.

  17. I was born in NY, live in NJ and travel on business all over the world. NY city is today one of the nicest cities I have even been. Nicest? Hong Kong by a mile. Also on the list would be London, Paris, Vacouver, San Fran, Chicago. Unfortunatly neither Dallas or Houston would make the list. Too H O T and not enough alluring sites to overcome its excessive temperature!
  18. Where in NJ were you? Thats where I live.
  19. My HBB is fine also. If you tap the case slightly the hand will move...and yes its just like mine about one third of a mm but enough to make your blood pressure rise!!!! I LOVE the watch and wont send it back since most of the pictures I have seen show the same issue. Like most issues with reps the lay person will never notice so lets try to stop looking at it!! LOL
  20. Jack Dempsey used to lay waste every big man he ever fought sometimes from single shots to the head or body. He actually stated he preferred fighting large opponents because they were a bigger target. Truth is a much smaller man can KO just about anyone if he is able to put his weight behind the punch. Ability > size
  21. It has a solid mid link bracelet so the question is what rep subs come with solid mid links? answer...MBW or TW best.
  22. He is one of the good dealers. He tells me both issues are common. I can work on the clasp with some oil. The dial hand is only VERY slightly to the right. (like one half the thickness of a second mark on the dial) It certainly does bug me since I know it should be straight up and down like an arrow. I will play with the chrono the next few days and see if the issue somehow corrects itself.
  23. Just recieved a DeWit Academia in the mail this AM. WHAT A NICE WATCH!!!! The fit and finish is just about perfect cosmetically and so far telling time on the money. I do see two small issues that I would like those more knowledagble to comment upon.... 1) The Titaniam clasp tends to pop open the first and second time I try putting the watch on. After 2-3 tries it stays closed. 2) There is a minute chrono dial on the right side. I notice that the hand on this dial has a little "play" Of course it should stay EXACTLY on "30" (pointing straight up) when I am not useing the chrono function. However I can tap lightly the sides of the watch case and make the hand move ever so slightly to the right side of the top marker. Its slight but enough to show others that it looks like the watch has not reset perfectly to "30". Furthermore when the chrono is working the hand does not at times land perfectly on the next minute but instead is slightly "ahead" of the minute marker. Of course I can just tap the case and move the hand to the right position but any movement from my wrist and the hand moves again off center. Just to emphisize......its not off by much..its slight..maybe half the thickness of the markers but enough so that one can see that the marker is not fully centered under the hand. Thoughts anyone????
  24. Everything comes and goes. Today its a BIG watch and in a few years they will be out of style and the small more elegant watch will be in favor. Its like everything else in life....nothing remains the same for very long.
  25. Difference is a TRUE Swiss ETA can last for decades. Its called quality. Having a great movement inside a beautiful rep means you have the LOOK and also a real TIMEPIECE. This is why I have bought reps in the past. We need to have the dealers tell us what we are buying. It is not good enough for any seller to say.."I dont know". They are selling the product at higher and higher prices so they should know.
