  1. How about: buy the rep and wear that on rubber, leaving your gen on its bracelet. Best of both worlds. If you then decide that you must have your gen on rubber you can sell the rep to help fund the gen strap.
  2. Cheers buddy, will have a look. :)
  3. I'm after a strap like this for my own blue SOA. Any suggestions as to where I may find it? I've contacted the owner next door but he can't remember other than it was a German company. Any German members want to help track it down? Would be appreciated.
  4. A little late posting, but better late than never. Where I live we have a pirates day. Until last year the town held the world record for the largest number of people in one place dressed as pirates.

  6. Yes it can, the date wheel can be removed.* *Advise given is from a non-tinkerer and could be wrong!
  7. +1
  8. Check the beat rate on the gen and try and match it with an Asian ETA copy. I'm sure some modders will be along to fully advise you soon.
  9. Our thoughts are with the French tonight after the Paris attack. :(
  10. Yes, but here is about the journey as much as the destination. Enjoy researching and building something special. I'm building (well not me but SSteel) my Grail. I've wanted the watch for years and he is making it happen. *Micky, hope it's going well!!!!
  11. Why not slowly build a franken? There must be a base watch that can be used to build your grail?
  12. If you don't want to participate thenleave or stay. It's up to you but stop saying I won't post again only to return a few hours later. This forum is more tolerant and is full of RWI/RWGbz outcasts so you may* just fit in. Hell you can even say Breitling, Breitling, Breitling without getting banned or an idiot appearing and ridiculing you. * but that's up to you.
  13. Am I the only person that say meh, not too fussed about it, maybe it'll grow on me. As it stands there are too many styles trying to happen: trying for the vintage look, but with the gold on the dial the stainless bezel clashes in my eyes. Strange as I love my BB red and also my Pelagos.
  14. Looks okay, but how long before its out of date and almost worthless. That's the big problem with technology, it's obsolete within a few months. At least my Seamaster will become classic (well maybe), but these sure won't. What are the apps that you actually need in a watch anyway. Still, having said all that I do quite fancy one myself!
  15. I've just bought a Borealis Sea Diver new on eBay for less than £100. So as suggested pop over there and see what tickles your fancy. To get you started (Yes some are buy it now and some are auctions but that's part of the game) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MENS-CITIZEN-PROMASTER-AUTOMATIC-200M-PRO-DIVERS-WATCH-NY0040-09E-/161879982448?hash=item25b0cc8170:g:yU0AAOSwVL1WCQL0 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OMEGA-SEAMASTER-COSMIC-2000-AUTOMATIC-CALENDAR-GOLD-PLATED-/371478785816?hash=item567ddc6f18:g:Jq0AAOSwAodWEuEZ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longine-mens-watch-automatic-mechanical-stainless-steel-strap-/221933472613?hash=item33ac440b65:g:5foAAOSwYHxWPE0L http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Sea-Gull-M171S-M172S-automatic-watch-flywheel-power-reserve-retrograde-/271809512395?var=&hash=item3f491c03cb:m:mmzhCy3Z3tpKMXY13RJFblg The list goes on.....
  16. Indeed, but banned from repgeek! Even RWI didn't ban him. Must be a first.
  17. Thanks for sharing. It's true of many veterans that they don't speak of what happend. My own grandfather, long departed, never spoke of his time on the convoys. We owe them a massive amount, much off which is not comprehended by the younger generation.
  18. Well folks, I've been here for almost two and a half years and my tastes have changed over that time. When I was the young noob I was into almost everything; discovering new names that I just had to try out. Then you get into a grove, you know what you like and you like what you know. Oddly, I didn't come here for Rolex, it was and still is Omega that gets my juices flowing. However, with such great reps of Patek, AP, Panerai, JLC, VC etc you just have to try them out. I went mad and must of purchased around 40 or so reps in my first year here, some from TD's but most M2M here and across the fora. I stalked our AJ in the sales section and came away with several nice pieces. I now seem to be in another phase of my collecting, looking at micro brands and lesser know, but affordable gens that I can carry off. After all, jeans, a tee shirt and a nice Nautilus may go unnoticed in Hollywood, but not in my neck of the woods. That brings me to the question, should one care about who notices your watch, rep or gen? Personally, no, but I'd feel foolish meeting some of the people I deal with for them to point and ask "is that real?" So I try and (mostly) collect what I'd be able to afford. Sure this includes a Rolex or two, naturally several Omegas, even some Breitlings and Tags, but I still have a couple of APs for posterity. How about you? What's your journey through repdom been like?

  20. Yes, I know. I can up the quantity and the price drops, but do I want to be left with 490 spare inserts! The number I was looking at I would expect to be able to sell.
  21. Please Micky, no selfies. ;)
