Hi and welcome. If You go to the main page Forum and scroll down You will find the names of the trusted dealers of this forum. You can look at their offers and buy from anyone of them. The Rolex Daytona (unfortunately) is not an advisable watch to buy as the first. For a chronograph maybe Breitling or TAG are 2 good options. Best would be to look for a non-chrono in the price-range of 160 to 260 USD plus shipping as first watch. Save the money for a "Swiss"-type or chrono for later. Anyway good luck and make the right choices.

Hi and welcome to the forum. So much to read around. If You want to get really impressed by Your first rep. look for the AP Diver V5 and get one, it´s worth every cent - just my opinion. This will get You the time needed to better look for the Rolex You really want. Cheers and good luck.

Opinion: DSSD/ SD vs Sub 116610/16610 rationales
Nightwatch replied to rjk's topic in The Rolex Area
It´s a nice, big, chunky watch without Cyclops that isn´t instantly recognizable as a Rolex. When I got mine it was the only black Rolex I could get. SS bracelets often are either to loose or they get to tight when You are flexing hands, working etc. this is partially solved with the adjustable ceramic sub rolesor bracelet and perfectly addressed with the micro-adjustable clasp mechanism of the DSSD. Think it´s one of the reasons it wears so comfortable. The subc I didn´t like it instantly, had to get used to its looks. The 16600 series Submariner and even more the Seadweller are "the" Rolex, those and the Datejust. this is what I mean:- 7 replies

As You are probably getting more than one watch in the long run try out the movements Asian 2813, Asian ETA 36, Swiss ETA and Asian 7750 for Chronos. Swiss ETA´s in Switzerland are assembled in a sterile environment out of vacuum packages which have gone through several quality controls before. Asian Swiss ETA´s are those the swiss didn´t want or used ones taken out of damaged watches and are stored in a big box together with some dust and dirt. Than they are assembled in the backyard of a garage by workers with a cold under harsh conditions. Asian ETA´s are assembled in the same conditions but they are brandnew and nowadays well machined. Both movements may be serviced and will run super-smooth. The Asian 2813 is a basic movement but it´s a workhouse, sometimes indestructible I have several and sometimes prefer them, easy to wind also, the rotor swings a bit louder but they cost a lot less. Before You buy a chrono - the better ones all come with an Asian 7750 - do more reading how to use the chrono before You break it or don´t buy one. The SO Abyss You initially posted is a superrep - if it´s available get it and that´s it. Order a cheap watch toolkit from Amazon with some small screwdrivers, pin removal and bracelet removal equipment and get a NATO strap and a divers rubberband (all are cheap) so You can use the watch when You get it. Done. Gen on the left - Rep on the right

Hi Thinkbachs nice one You got, the SKA383P1 pls leave some comments and pics when You get it. Marinemaster if we would only be allowed gens:) As it goes I will settle for a Seiko 5 Sports sooner or later and probably keep it as it is. If one of You wants to let go a fully FFF modded one including red tipped second hand and caseback I´m interested:)

Hi Simstre, You were also looking for the IWC-P, posted some more info on it here: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/166994-iwc-portuguese-or-portofino-chronos/#entry1307703

Great post, thanks, care to update us with all that failed the test?

Hi and welcome to the forum. London is a good place to be because all trusted dealers ship there and You will get the packages about 2 weeks faster than other eu-members hassle-free:). All dealers from the trusted dealer section are good to go with, tried out several of them myself, others recommend to choose one and to stay with him. In my opinion Trustytime is a good place to start with because of fast e-mail response, big selection on the website and handling of newcomers, later try out others, basically all TD can get all watches. Read about payment/payment options here on the forum first before contacting the dealers. IWC Portuguese with the seconds at six is a no go as are all replicas with seconds at six (Rolex Daytona). The movement used is not adequate for displaying seconds at six so there are used several transfer gears. These are not always perfectly machined, well sitted and they don´t have extra rubies to avoid wear (read about this) so the movement will break down because one of several reasons in a very short time. This will not only stop the seconds but the whole watch. In this price range (400´s) I would recommend the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 which has a wonderful display backcase and metal bracelet. For about half my other choice would be the Jaeger le-Coultre Master Geographic, similar in design with the IWC and with a reliable 23j movement. Different but well-made replica is the Rolex Datejust 2 with Asian ETA. Choose another watch but if You do like the design (as me) and depending where You use it get the IWC with Quartz as a second watch. It´s just about 128 usd, has a reliable Chrono and only the (small) seconds hand at 6 ticks. It´s got a useful date the gen has not but it´s beautiful. With Quartz there is no technical issue whatsoever and it keeps time to the second although it looks slightly different from gen. Personally very happy with mine pictured below. Good luck with Your choices and welcome to the forum. IWC Portuguese Chrono as reliable quartz version:

Congrats on the Super-Avenger. Great lume. Love that one, will take it if You don´t want it:) This is on the next-to-get list (Breitling with numbers) and checked it out with an AD the other week. It´s a very thick watch and wears high, I already have some of those chunky ones and need something smaller so I will go for the thinner 44mm Avenger heritage after CNY. Meanwhile I think You really chose one of the best around, as said only reason for me not to get it now is the DSSD I have and the Panerai 193 submersible and alikes. The Breitlings are super-reps or near to and the quality is very high. As it´s a Chrono with the Asian 7750 don´t play around with the chrono function too much which should be easy because of the nice srew-in crowns and make ALWAYS sure only to stop it and reset it when the second hand is between 10 and 2, nowhere else. It´s worth to look for and to read about the Asian 7750 movement here on the forum before using it - so do it now:) Didn´t re-check if its an older version but think You can read all about the S-Avenger here: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/82645-super-avenger-the-bigger-bang/ -
Hi and welcome. I like it:) Glad You had the screwdriver. Next pickup could be a handy watch repair kit (cheap on Amazon) with some screwdrivers, a lupe, and specially the pin removal tool and lug removal tool (it´s got another name but comes with the kit). A NATO strap and maybe a 20mm (cheap) n.d. divers rubber band and You´re set to go. One of the most unnerving things is to get a new watch and You can´t wear it, with the above You´re always set to go:)

Hello from Chicago. I want a tax v6 sub!
Nightwatch replied to painguy's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Hi Chicago and welcome to the forum. Why exactly do You want a TC sub? Just curious if You want to develop on that. I read about the TC bracelet long before even joining this forum and forgot about it, than it took me quite some searching to find him again. It´s easier today. My personal opinions: Below are some Rolex pictures to preview. The one with the red second hand (a sure tell , that´s why I chose it) is my beautiful TC Rouge, also from TC, the others are the 16600 Seadweller (waterproof) and the 116600 ceramic Submariner. Price and waiting time is 2-3 x higher/longer with the TC, with a 10x lupe You also see the difference:) The TC for sure is the superior watch but for most people - I would say - the others just have different advantages and different flaws. TC basically just offers one model when there are so many different nice Rolexes to get. TC Rouge on the left, Andrews Ceramic Sub on the right One is a TC, the other is a 16600 Seadweller from Andrew (which?) Seadweller on the left, TC on the right Seadweller in the storm (this is not TC) HDR picture of Andrews Ceramic sub If I would buy one watch only, I would buy the TC, if I was new here on the forum I would want the one I could get fastest and test around with watches from other brands too. If You get the TC as the first one You will not be able to appreciate its virtuous enough and later feel some kind of deception with the other reps. I seriously would recommend to try out several watches/movements and brands first buying one Asian 2813, one Asian eta 36 and one Asian 7750 chronograph and in the middle-long term if You still want it to aim for the TC. In my opinion it is the much better way to go, but there are other opinions of course. I still wear all of the above and others Good luck with Your choices, posted some other details today in another forum question about ceramic subs if You want to check it out. -
Ordered my first rep! and here's the rest on the list..
Nightwatch replied to simstre's topic in General Discussion
Hi gwxhs, the link gets me to the ..90a ceramic sub (it´s the one pictured above) with plusses and minus detailed. As said I think it´s as much watch as You can get for that money, I like it, some purists will have another opinion, specially when looking with a 10x lupe at details on the dial. From above on the wrist it looks perfect, compared to the gen imho the main difference is that it´s about 2mm thicker than the gen which you see in the height difference/space between the case and the turning bezel when looked at in a perfect angle from the sides only (the Tc´s/Bks don´t have this, the bexel sits "flush" which is one of the things which make them so attractive for purists, the case is thinner). But than I like the inner Rolex engraving of the ceramic one, the markings on the case if You take of the bracelet off and a lot of other details it has. Just don´t take it off the wrist as a gen-owner wouldn´t either with a 10´grand watch. Specially the Rolesor bracelet is very good because it´s micro-adjustable without any tools and You may put it larger at night and flusher in the morning etc. For the black one I´m a fan of the single red Pro Hunter Deep Sea, Jacques Piccard edition, it´s a heavy, solid watch and my toughest rep which stands any beating but than I´m biased I´m also getting the 2008 edition IWC Cousteau Divers (blue and yellow) with the Calypso on the back. If You look Andrew also has it for 168/178 or very expensive this one I would really like to have it with an Asian ETA but mine has the 2813 movement. Just make sure You get that special extendable bracelet with it because it´s fantastic and one of the best metal bracelets I know of. For fun it´s got an easy to use divers extension too, but mainly that double-opening clasp as pictured below to micro-adjust - it is fantastic. Disregarding the model You take, just make sure it has this type of bracelet. Enjoy:) -
My very, very old watch, exactly 64 years old it is and vintagely beaten but it keeps ticking this PAM classic 8 giorni brevettato

Hi and welcome. Silix has the very cheapest offerings from all TD as much as I know in the economy section, but they are different (inferior) watches. These are my personal opinions: Lume is inexistent or so bad it lasts +- 1 minute so You should also stay away from that particular section unless: 1.) You are buying exactly a rep that has been reviewed and posted and You want to buy the exact same; 2.) You want to strip it to get parts for another watch 3.) You want to try out size and general look on a 65 usd sample before ordering the 465 usd more genuine-like rep. 4.) You need a very cheap quartz Other TD´s like Trusty, Toro, etc specify if it´s the exact and same, casing, lume, etc. of the expensive ones and if the only difference is the movement. In this case - and it´s again only my opinion You get exactly the same watch but better parts go into the Asian and Swiss eta´s and the less good dials/hands etc. into the cheaper 2813 watches. This being said I have really excellent 2813´s but also let´s say "not so well aligned/good" Asian Eta´s in the end a little luck is necessary with both. What I also do have is some very good quality (but economical) reps with quartz movement and I think for the time being the Chinese manufactures are simply "better" at making/assembling quartz watches than autos. It´s all a question of which flaw You can better live with but in the end You only will know after You have the watch. Good luck.

Hi gwxsh- the one pictured is the rolsub090a with the very basic 2813 movement, its the 116600 ceramic sub. Quality may vary as written above. The same is available with Asian ETA also, I normally would get one of the ceramics and one of the 16600 series (Seadweller preferred or sub, gmt or Explorer2), one with the 2813 movement, the other with the Asian Eta 2836-2. Than You have tried out both standard movements and compared pricewise and know what is better for You with the next purchase. OK, there You go, pls click on the lower right side if You liked this, thanks. -

Nightwatch replied to simstre's topic in General Discussion
Hi again, it´s more a question of prices, the quartz is cheaper about 128 usd - if You order it as 2nd watch in one shipment You save on shipping too. Than You can try out if You really like it. The auto is 300-400 plus a service for fixing the problem as soon as You get it or You can wait for a serviced sample on m2m sales, but that will take long. Just read about. Rolex has so many different with different functions: GMT/Explorer/Vintage/Datejust that the only problem I see is explaining to colleagues/neighbours how suddenly You have half a dozen:), depends how/when You wear them. Anyway get at least one green lumed one of older series with the smaller dots, in my opinion they look more elegant. The basic movement also runs fine btw. all a question of prices. -

Nightwatch replied to simstre's topic in General Discussion
Hi and welcome to the forum. Quite some list You have there:) Good luck with Your choices. TC/BK have a consistently good build quality, the others may have different quality levels so You get better or worse ones (Your bet:) Actually Andrews ceramic sub is a good choice, superlumed in blue with a perfect (adjustable) rolesor bracelet, the turning of the 120-click bezel is smooth and functional, inner rehault Rolex engraving, laser-etched crown in the glass at 6, serial number on the caseset so You may wear it on a NATO, serial engraved in the rehault at 6 too, screw-down crown with rubber, a wrong pearl, a too thick caseset, maybe another datefont - but who knows or bothers? It´s a lot of value for the money, You will love it, next You might get a green-lumed 16600 Seadweller without Cyclops to match it. Than the shinier TC - or an Ap Diver or a Steelfish….. Glossy picture of Andrews ceramic sub: IWC Portuguese Chrono: The main seconds hand does not move unless You use the Chrono. To avoid movement problems You might choose to get a reliable Quartz (Yes, I´m hearing everybody screaming:), there are several versions of it - like this, not gen-like but a beautiful watch with useful day-function and 24-hr dial (there are others, also from Andrew) - try to sit 1 meter back and tell me if the seconds at 6 sweep or tick......You simply can´t:) more detail? Here: 6. Take a look at the JLC Master Geographic too, beautiful GMT watch 10. or the DSSD It´s fun to be around - every watch a new discovery and adventure. Cheers -
and congrats Fraggle42 and mt666 - imho theres no match for the Tudor and the FFF for the time being, love them both.

An old classic but brandnew for me. Ordered on Saturday - arrived Tuesday in EU:) and it´s a gen... the Bat-Superseiko Diver

Congrats Danza, glad You enjoy the quality too. Waiting for Your picks of the black one, think it´s even nicer:) Hi Stj, As a backup diving-timer I would only rely on a gen - quartz with unidirectional bezel. Swimming in the pool/sea should be fine, it´s got gaskets on the stoppers and a screw-in-crown. For me no jumping/diving (extreme pressure) and no careless shower with a stop-watch. The grease used to keep it waterproof will wash out from shower-gels. Hot-cold changes wear on the gaskets and contract/ expand the case. Careful shower just with warm water and avoiding foam on the watch will be fine. Sure its fun to take reps deep down to "test how far they will go" and take pics. Until now mine didn´t make it deeper than the photoshop aquarium (see pic:)) but next summer we´ll see:) Tag Aquaracer with sixteen foot tiger shark and lemon sharks, Bahamas
