Hi. I've decided to build a grail watch... the 5517 as a franken. So, I need a bunch of pieces. I've got a cal. 1520, but need everything else. So, what would you guys recco for: case-- am thinking MBW 5512 case, but is that right? hands -- where to get? dial -- where to get? case back Thanks for your expert help! J

That 5517 is too much, man! If I can ask, what did you use as the base for that? I am thinking of the same project myself. Did you use a 1520 cal. mvmnt? Which case is that-- an MBW 5512 case? I am dying to know the details?

Its a Eta 2893-3/TG893 on a TN Jules Verne GMT. Who knows what? OK, so I have a bunch of those modified ETAs that produce faux GMT movements, but what I really dream about is converting them ALL to 2893-2 movements. Am I the only one? I doubt it. But, what I don't know is how is the best way to go about this? It's tough to source them, that's for sure. Anyone have any ideas? Can we pool our resources to dredge some up? I am willing to pay, but not crazy about buying a bunch of $650 watches as donors a la http://store.debaufre.com/ETA-2893-Movement-s/59.htm. So, does anyone know of another way?

My a7750 came with all sorts of weird problems, and it took The Zigmeister a while to figure out. But once he did it, it has been rock solid and works great. I would not get it unless you are prepared to spend real money getting it right (fixed if need be). If you are, this can turn out to be a fantastic watch-- mine is one of my top favorites. I, personally, would not buy this version at all because it is just too far off from gen. The strange month and year chrono dials are just too hinky for me. But, if you just want cross-eyed at 20 paces similarity, this watch will do that and I bet it feels solid, etc.

I think Robin Williams suggested everyone get a gun that shoots suction cups with "idot" flags on them. A driver gets enough and the cops pull him over. Always seemed to be on the right track to me

I agree with Kurzer et al. I have many gens, but reps are much more fun for me because i can tinker. It is the projecting- if that's a word, which it isn't - that provides the fun here... constantly trying to make things better, researching, even going off the res and making somthing fun ina way I would never ever consider with a gen...
