  1. I am going to play devil's advocate on this one and call you out because I can think of one exception. The Bugatti Veyron Volkswagen has a ton of money wrapped up in development and production in that monster and they are still losing money on them despite the fact that they sell like mad. An quite frankly if I had the coin, I would be on it like white on rice. I think it would be worth every penny. But yeah, by and large I agree with you. EDITED TO ADD: The biggest slap in the face about Panerai is wildly inconsistent pricing. Example - A 111 vs a 1950. Same guts, same basic design but a slightly different case and crystal but about a 20k difference in price. At least with an expensive Rolex I could by a diamond studded Gaytona to see where my money went.
  2. I wanted to clarify my post above just so my conscience can be clear. I am by no means bashing all 'Risti but was making a generalized statement. Similar to when someone rips on Ferrari drivers as a group for example. I own several gens of brands and it seems that many gen owners take an elitist attitude because of what they have on their wrist. I have seen gen owners of brand X bash other gen owners of brand X because the first group bought their watches from an authorized dealer and the second group bought "grey market" (think Jomashop, etc. ) or used watches. It baffles the mind. Last time I bought a car I don't remember anyone in my owners group ripping me a new one because I bought one used. I like to think that in any mob or group there are people who can appreciate something for the design and not how much it costs and that if an individual wishes to obtain something of that design then they should be respected whether they bought new or used. Or in some of our cases, Reps, but that may be pushing it. Anyway, back on topic, I know there are fine and outstanding 'Risti such as our own Uncle Jay, but by and large I would not want to cross most of them.
  3. Forgive me if this has been posted before, I did a search and could not find a similar topic. I have been doing some searching on Ferrari models. I have seen several people say that they are quite accurate, but have not seen a discussion comparing all Ferrari models. I was wondering which of the currently available watches is the MOST accurate. Ideally I am looking for one with a textured dial, like the 004, but as I am ignorant about these items I wanted to see what the concensus was on the quality of these watches, the good parts, the bad parts, etc. Thanks
  4. I actually like that rep better than some of the technicolor rainbow on acid stuff that Zenith has been putting out lately.
  5. Yep, I was right. Ti only. hxxp://www.watchtraderz.com/2007/08/oris_carlos_coste_limited_edit.html "The new Limited Edition Carlos Coste Chrono is probably the nicest watch Oris introduced at Baselworld. This beast has a massive 47 mm titanium case with a a 4.8 mm sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 1000 m. The limited edition version is named after Oris brand ambassador Carlos Coste who is the free-diving world record holder. The dial is very cool with orange accents, orange luminous paint and a black dial with a printed wave design. There are 2000 editions available worldwide for $3195. "
  6. I thought the gen was titanium, is it not? Why worry about a bracelet if there is a bigger tell in the material.
  7. There is a reason they refer to those guys as a cartel. Anyway, the Sherman Anti-Trust Act is not worth the paper it is printed on. We have plenty of other cartels operating in the US without incident.
  8. By-Tor was being kind and generous in his posting. Simply put, most 'Risti have money. You are going up against businessmen who like to show off what they have and what they can do. Several of them are lawyers with nothing better to do than raise hell when scorned. I know of several other sites that received legal threats after this stunt and similar ones like it. I can't speak for anyone involved on THIS site, but others I know involved in moderating other sites said that it was getting ugly. Like I said, I can't speak for RWG, I can't even speak for the other sites I mentioned as I don't mod for them and it is just what someone told me, but going on a gen forum and doing something like this is bad mojo folks.
  9. I am glad to read this. I am in the process of severely slowing down my buying. Not because of financial reasons, but because of quality reasons. I used to think I was lucky in not getting a bad watch, now that caught up with me. I have been eyeing the SSD for a long time and it was going to be my final purchase for the next couple of months (I have been ordering about three to five a month). You just pushed me over the edge, and I am not a Rolex guy.
  10. I assume this is not at an AD but at one of the secondhand shops he mentioned above. I can't imagine what kind of a [censored] storm an AD would get into with Breitling if they were busted selling fakes. I would imagine (and hope) that this dealer was ignorant of what he had and someone fooled him on a trade in. But I could be wrong.
  11. It seems even though prices keep going up, quality is taking a nose dive. The Breitling I am sending back should have never even been bought in GZ, let alone shipped. Had another that was SUPPOSED to be an ETA, I paid for an ETA, did not get an ETA.
  12. Not a problem! I have been caught up in worse and the ones I fall for cost me money!
  13. Movement does not say same as gen, it says same spec as genuine. The way our dealers talk that could mean anything, they could call the A7750 the same spec as genuine because they are 28k bph chronos.
  14. I have received a couple of bad watches lately, one if which both the dial was poorly printed and the chronos won't reset to zero. I am located in the US and will be sending these back to our respected vendors. Does anyone have any advise about the cheapest way to send these back via USPS and am I required to declare a value and the contents (if so, what should I state for these questions)? Thanks
  15. They are all fakes, Chuck Yeager is a pilot and is shown wearing a Rolex. We all know from advertising that all pilots MUST wear Breitlings. Once a pilot is promoted to astronaut then they are moved to Omega.
  16. It would have been funny if his pack exploded and made a big bang.
  17. On Sparta is lists in pinned topics at the top of the forums that you should not take your watch to the AD and not post on gen forums. Perhaps we need this as well since we already have [censored] of 'Risti runing around.
  18. Is this thing made of sugardrops and fairy dust? 400 - 500 for a (quite boring) ETA rep? Whisky Tango Foxtrot
  19. Did you get a previously unknown chrono rep or am I really confused? The gen does not use a 7750 for the standard SOH, the model I have as reviewed by Seadweller has the same ETA movement in the rep as the gen (unless talking about the cheaper asian version that is).
  20. Not to nit pick, but the Wed looks crooked.
  21. I thought that your avatar was from Natural Born Killers, have you even seen that movie?
  22. Her face looks quite rough in that second photo. I hope she was drunk or something when that photo was taken.
  23. WARNING - OFF TOPIC I had already known Antoine was an author as I had read The Little Prince years ago, knew his history as a pilot as well, however I was reading a news article a few weeks back about the circumstances in regards to his death in battle. Apparently there is an individual who is taking credit for shooting Antoine down and this man also claims that Antoine was one of his favorite authors. It is on wikipedia for those of you interested. Both German and French investigators belive the guy is full of BS.
  24. I have that watch, now it looks like I need your strap! Thanks!
  25. His 036 has a weird color brown, almost looks purple.
