Excellent work, you've really improved that watch no end!

The ... ERAIPANERAIPAN ... 6497 was in G series models the Cotes de Geneve finished 6497 (with Officine Panerai engraved once) was in H series and later; the current gens are on series J. You generally refer to the series letter to describe the decoration on the movement. Hope this helps.

Ha ditto! Mrs Baltic nabbed my 183

Omega Speedmaster Professional AKA the 'Moon Watch'.

Watches that one do not wear should be sold right away!

Agree with you on this one By-Tor. I once had 13, now down to 5 + 1 gen. Quality over quantity every time for me. -
I think you can also get them from Ofrei and Cousins (in the UK).

Aha! There's Finepics... Hi Mark, welcome back.

Ever Disapointed With Your Watch Choice for the Day?
baltic replied to smalls's topic in General Discussion
The only watch I've really been disappointed with was the IWC FAJ. It looked stunning in the pics but didn't do it in 'the flesh' - too lightweight compared to my 183, I couldn't tell the time at a glance (maybe it was my eyes, it had the steel coloured hands), wasn't sure about white dial. So it got flipped on here and went to a better home. Bloody pleased I hadn't spent -
My sentiments exactly!

Thanks for the replies. @ Zig, when I've got a bit of time I'll do just that and report back on my findings, cheers.

Just a question that has been puzzling me wee brain. On the ETA autos 2824, 2836 etc does anyone know how long wearing the watch equals running time e.g. I wear it for 3 hours around the house means it'll give the watch X hours of running time? I know it depends on your activity levels in that time period but I mean normal stuff - sitting down, walking around, on PC etc. not running or skiiing. I've looked through the 101.102 posts from maestro Zig for enlightenment, apologies if I missed it in there. The reason is I have one auto watch a uPO with a ETA 2836 and I like to keep it running, don't want a winder and wear it in the evenings to keep it wound. Anyhoo no worries if it's not known, just curious. Ta in advance

Aye exactly! I think the sub-forum mentioed earlier is a good idea, as is asking dealers to include pics of movements.
-
It all boils down to trust. We trust the dealers to sell us a watch with movements/AR/sapphire etc as they are described to us. Imagine buying a BMW advertised with a 3.0 turbo diesel and not knowing anything about cars trusting the seller that it has that engine. Time for its service and the mechanic says its actually a 125cc engine from a moped! We need to believe the dealers or this whole business goes [censored] over [censored]. Choose your dealer not the watch is bloody critical, again well done Edge for starting this discussion and looking at the post count in the short space of time shows how important this is to us.

Well done Edge for raising this. Things have certainly changed since I got into reps and joined RWG 1, mainly for the better, however it feels to me that 'something is afoot in the state of Denmark' (apols to the Bard) with accusations of cartels, old time dealers disappearing (Eddie etc) and QC issues increasing. I'm watching this with interest...

A friend has had his watch with Mark for a while and has just got it back. Apparantly Mark has got a bit of a back log and some external issues aren't helping. A bit of patience and I'm sure all will be well.

Anyone have watch confiscated or threatened at AD?

Speaking of ignorant sales assistants, when I was out ready to buy my gen speedy I obviously wanted the best deal, so I toured the various high end jewellers ready to deal that day. In the first shop the girl behind the counter didn't know what a 'moon watch' was and started scrolling through her on-line catalogue while there was one in the display behind her! She asked me 'was it the quartz speedmaster you wanted?' At this point I politely excused myself and went to a shop that trained its staff well enough to deserve over -
Congrats on the gen and thanks for a very useful post. I've got a 111h and it still surprises me how close it is. Enjoy your PAM!

I would go with the SMP, movement is more reliable, easier to waterproof. I used to have one, it's a great watch. As far as the screws in the bracelet it just means you can adjust it yourself and who on earth is going to be asking you about the pins v screws in your bracelet!? Well apart from if you meet someone from this board!
-
Once up to 12 now down to 5 plus gen Omega. Quality over quantity for me. I've modded the reps I'm keeping.
-
OK Boddies it is, it'd have to be cask rather than keg mind, none of the horrible nitro' beer version! May I also reccommend Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord'. Must join a real ale forum...
-
Just got back my Ziggified uPO - service and re-lume. Very prompt turn around and excellent comms from his glamorous assistant The lume looks like it's been put on by a machine! Hmm, maybe Rob is a machine... Just wanted to say thanks in public, I hope people appreciate what a credit to our hobby Rob is! Cheers - a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale is waiting if you ever venture across the pond!

<cough> Omega Speedmaster Professional <cough> History that a PAM would die for, bullet proof movement, hardly changed in looks for 50 years (therefore ticks vintage box yet still looks modern), looks good with a suit and casual, exceptional VFM. Anyhoo these were my thoughts before I bought one.
-
I for one bought a Gen Speedy Pro after having the rep. I loved the watch and wanted the 'real thing'. When I get a bit more spare cash, I'll probably get a second hand PAM. The reps got me into watches.
