denimhead Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Just received a wonderful package this morning from my friend Big Dazza. Having drooled over other members 1016 Explorer 1's I finally decided to pull the trigger and put one together for myself. Firstly many thanks for the great information gathered on this wonderful site by all of you who have trod the same path. Its been a great help chaps. So here's my recipe for this wonderful build Gen 16014 case set that had the lug holes drilled by Omnicron Engineering here in Sheffield Gen 78360 bracelet with 558 endlinks which look like they've seen a bit of life! Justins Aftermarket Gen spec 1016 Bezel Gen 24-600 6mm crown with tube Clark tropic 22 Very nice re-done dial sold to me by my good friend 1680, now he knows a bit about the 1016 so he kindly guided me through the process of getting the right dial NOS condition eta 2846 slow beat, all of the Calendar parts removed by Big Daz After market hand set re-coloured to match the dial by Big Daz Enjoy!
1680 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Nice to see that dial in a case, finally Another nice 1016, wear it with pride and don't sell it Just one question, how did you get the 2,0mm springbars through the 558 endlinks? I thought those were meant for the Datejust (1.8mm springbars).
denimhead Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 Nice to see that dial in a case, finally Another nice 1016, wear it with pride and don't sell it Just one question, how did you get the 2,0mm springbars through the 558 endlinks? I thought those were meant for the Datejust (1.8mm springbars). They are really, but they came with the bracelet and where already damaged so I just opened them up a bit and fitted the 2mm bars
blue. Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Congrats for the beautiful 1016 build, denimhead! I like the smooth stack up of mid case, JMB´s bezel and the Tropic crystal. That typical bezel-crown overhang is quite good! Wear it often and in good health
sigsvoor Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 very very nice, Mark but i have one little wish: please shorten the springbars and give them a nice finish ........ thanks
woof* Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 They might be a mil long, but I love seeing the tips of the spring bars! I can hardly ever find spring bars long enough. Denim, your build came out great and I love the little scars on the case and bracelet. Reminds me of the watch the pic of that actor wearing .. 1
sigsvoor Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 woofy, dear Sir, i agree with you .......... but only, if i can see the tips of the SB in profile. in front view, it means that the SB are wrong, horrid wrong.
lhooq Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Congrats, DH! That's a very nice build topped off with a great dial. I will second sigsvoor's suggestion to shorten the springbars so that the tips are recessed in the holes. That's the only improvement significant improvement I can think of, though everything looks great as-is.
blue. Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 1680, nice advertisement. Origin and translation please
Geof3 Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 This is where I struggle... Great looking watch, no doubt. However, I can never decide if I would rather see these in "distressed" condition or nice and shiny "restored" condition. Tough call for me. Fully polished and such, that would be a stunner!
highoeyazmuhudee Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 im not an explorer guy but this is sweet!
polexpete Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 woa! that is beautiful, and perfect on your wrist ... P.
