Confessions of a Serial Flipper..........

As many of you know im a serial flipper, before I joined RWG I was a serial gen flipper and before that I was serial motorcycle flipper. I dont even now why I do it, its a sickness and I need curing! I so want to hold on to a watch for a year or 2 even and get to know it a bit better but im always on the look out for the next watch, but my friends, I have set myself a challange to keep just one watch (a PAM 005) until after Christmas, at which point I will treat myself to a new watch. To do this I need your support my fellow watch geeks, please dont sell me any watches!

I recently looked back through my photobucket account and realised the extent of my sickness, I have been a member here for 11 months, a relatively short period of time, but in that short time the number of watches I have owned is crazy. Here is a look back at an interesting, expensive, amazing, but ultimately stupid year of owning rep watches:

So first up, the reason I came here, a PVD Sinn U2 to replace the gen I sold, this is what got me started. I couldnt believe the quality and it got me hooked:

When I joined I had 2 Gens, a Helson Bronze Shark diver and a Kemmner Bund:

STH70060_zpsd011af8b.jpg

These two were sold, to fund 3 more reps, a Hublot, 1665 and Project X Sub:

I then added a 212 Panerai:

The 212 and Project X were sold and these two bought to replace them:

At this point my Rolex fetish was in full swing so the Hublot went and in came this Explorer 2 and Milgauss:

Then the first of a few frankens, this is the one I regret selling the most:

I then sold everything and went down the Breitling and Omega route, these two came in:

This came and went in 24 hours!:

This fella didnt last long either:

Next I discovered vintage Panerai and picked these two up:

Had a bit of a change, traded a few and sold the rest, In came a 111 and a 390:

Then I added a 029:

Then I sold everything to fund this:

Which in turn made way for these:

In came another UPO, which you will be amazed to know I actually still have!!!:

and also a Franken Seamaster:

Sold the 5513 and seamaster to fund these:

A few went and these two frankens came in:

These both went and in came this:

and this:

20130821_085202_zpsd03f5278.jpg

Then these two:

20130819_105057_zpsa62f3751.jpg

20130814_073515_zpsb54f9500.jpg

This 005 that is now my keeper till Xmas!!:

20130811_102202_zps2232c495.jpg

Had this for a short time:

20130807_204031_zpsd3965f1f.jpg

This lasted a fortnight:

20130804_112814_zpscad35f06.jpg

Lastly this Superocean:

20130912_112951_zpsb210e2a1.jpg

And there you have it, 11 months and way too many watches! Im serious about sticking to my 1 watch plan but who knows If I can last, its going to be tough but I want to do this and prove to myself I can do it. The 005 is the one watch I keep coming back to, although it was tough to choose it over my franken UPO and the Superocean I still own.

Hope you enjoyed the pics and any noobs reading let this be a lesson to you about how bad things can get when your addicted to flipping!

Other than the financial implecations of buying and selling so many watches I have truely enjoyed all of these watches, its been a great journey and Im glad that it was all done through RWG, this place is incredible and I hope to stick around for a long time yet.

Cheers RWG!

Shouldnt this around in a circle...with you standing up and introducing yourself...

One day at time mate...one day at a time..

Or is it one watch at a time..? ;)

Blimey, you change your watch more often then I change my pants. (Well almost) I'm impressed and I guess that's half the fun of reps and the rep community.

An impressive haul in 11 months, a few there that I would love to own, however I'm sure I would have someone at home who would put a stop to it if I ever got anywhere near half that :)

PAM is gorgeous, I'm trying do hard to tell myself I don't need one, lucky for me I have skinny wrists so 42mm is max for me!

Watches are like Women !

Having a Masters in NLP (like Psychology) I can share something with you all. In my case like our friend here, it is the 'Search, the quest even the anticipation of the new watch will be 'The one'. Not too dissimilar to guys chasing women, they look good (well should do) and have different shapes, sizes, feel and so on, a lot of serious fun is in the chase and unfortunately, when you actually get it, the watch or the woman, you yearn for another to try/wear.

Is there any long term side effects I hear you ask, fortunately no so long as you follow some basic rules, this applies to both watches and women!:

Do not spend more than you can afford comfortably

Try to set a limit on numbers

Share your experiences with your fellow members with photos please

Select the best you can afford as passing on will always have a good audience

Initially keep the protective wrapper on!

Best of luck to you all out there, but please do not forget, our hobby is addictive and the side effects and downside are so minimal I would suggest you go crazy and live hard as you never know when that might stop.

Have a great weekend

Watches are a disease.

The longest I have owned the same watch...41 years.

Longest I wore it...5 or 6 days in a row.

Last time I wore it...1979.

Owned how many of the same model since then?...20 or so.

How many watches total since I started?...you would not believe it.

How many do I have now?...you would not believe it.

How many have I sold?...ditto.

Working on them...

What is the biggest problem imho?...parts, no doubt about it.

What is the main flaw in mechanical watches imho?...hairsprings.

Are quartz watches really 'better' than mechanical watches imho?...of course they are.

The same question applied to automobiles (because this is what usually happens when discussing mechanical watches):

Is a Lexus better than a T model Ford?...of course it is. A modern mechanical watch is just a T model engine in a Lexus body.

What have I learned?

A watch is a watch. They all go stale in about 7 days.

There was a story a while back about a guy that started with a paperclip and flipped it for a house. Took a year...

I'm also curious about the economic effects of your flipping, did you take much of a loss?

Oh yes, substantial. The postage costs alone must be fair bit! Realistically I would envisage a £5-600 loss.
