highoeyazmuhudee Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 i never find anything good when browsing those places... all crt tvs and dirty sofas if i were super rich i would donate obscure valuable pieces for fun and then wait to read about the mc donalds worker who found a rare daytona at a thrift store and bought it for 99cents.
danielv2000 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I was just about to post about this! The find of a lifetime. I've held a few yard sales in my time and always had a few guys stop in and ask if I had watches for sale.
HaydenM Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 That's amazing, I really envy the americans on the boards here as from what you hear there are a lot more nice old watches floating around.
iceberg1459 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 that watch cant be worth that much. its a trap. http://www.chrono24.com/en/jaegerlecoultre/master-control-master-memovox-tribute-to-deep-sea-alarm-limited-edition-reference--2028440--id2208731.htm?query=LeCoultre+Deep+Sea+Alarm&dosearch=true&searchexplain=1&dosearch=true&urlSubpath=/search/index.htm
cc33 Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 That's the new tribute they made iceberg, the orig ones are worth more
jigelow Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Man. Goodwill really screwed themselves, there.
Resistor Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 that watch cant be worth that much. its a trap.http://www.chrono24.com/en/jaegerlecoultre/master-control-master-memovox-tribute-to-deep-sea-alarm-limited-edition-reference--2028440--id2208731.htm?query=LeCoultre+Deep+Sea+Alarm&dosearch=true&searchexplain=1&dosearch=true&urlSubpath=/search/index.htm Err...that's a modern homage to the original, which is what's described in the article.
chris5264 Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I found a jlc for under 1 USD at similar place, sold it for 300 and it was a fun ride. One of the only times I didn't lose money on a watch.
POTR Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) This is how they are selling watches at GW HQ here in Seattle... Hard to see what's stuffed in the middle. Edited January 28, 2015 by POTR
Resistor Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 This is how they are selling watches at GW HQ here in Seattle... Hard to see what's stuffed in the middle. Only one thing to do...buy all of them!
POTR Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 The one right between us on Dearborn. You gonna go buy all the vases full of watches? I'll help sort...
kyldare Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 The one right between us on Dearborn. You gonna go buy all the vases full of watches? I'll help sort... We may need a case of Elysian beer to help us sort.
POTR Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 How about Humble Pie? Right around the corner from GW. We can spread 'em out on the picnic tables and have a nice pizza with our beer while we sort.
icoopernicus Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Not that hard to believe. Imagine a beat up Patek in a pile of fashion watches, the average person equates big and flashy with expensive and wouldn't give a 34mm case and a time only dial wouldn't jump out at anyone. Experiment - I just asked a co worker which watch he thought was more expensive, handed him my Speedy and a 44mm invicta diver. he picked the heavier invicta diver to be the higher end watch when the Invicta can be had for 2% of the price of the Speedmaster!
chronoluvvv Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Man. Goodwill really screwed themselves, there. yes and it's only fair some poor clerk will lose his job over this though
POTR Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I don't see how a minimum wage sorter can be blamed for not knowing watches. The manager in charge of pricing items perhaps...
